Could be two thing, Voltage regulator or your stator. most likely its your stator. I had similar porblem with my '98. I replaced both the stator and regulator $200.00(After market), a month later same thing, no power did some trouble shooting, reinstalled my old regulator fired right up and haven't had any trouble with my battery. This was in 2000 and I missed out on two bike weeks and went through three batteries. Hopfully this can help.
