- Need a couple TLR goodies -- Fitz (Boston), 19:33:05 05/05/04 Wed
Hey guys. I'm looking for two things: 1. A new rear seat cowling (hump thing); and 2. Some sort of carbon fiber sticker or something to go over the "round disc/base" beneath the handlebars. I'm not sure what's it's called exactly, but it's the circular, silver base that has all those slotted teeth around its circumference. All my wet-weather riding has rusted it up completely and I need to cover it up. Any leads are greatly appreciated. Cheers!

- Hey Gary F.! -- Gene, 02:14:36 05/06/04 Thu
Just following up on the spacer that I needed for my TLR rear wheel.
Well I order it from Bike Bandit, they didn't fill the order for 7 days so I cancelled and went to Ronayers. They sent it in around 7days.
My bears in rear wheel were bad.
I brought the rear end to a local bike shop who told me the bearing swere in, just bring it in, turnaround couple days or same day.
I got a call saying they needed bearings for it. Anyway long story short, it was a hectic 3 week time jperiod with my bike out of commission!
I just put a 41tooth sprocket on rear and same chain worked! The get up and go is surprising! I felt like it was more in the meaty part of the RPM range.
I wonder how off the speedo and tach are now though?
I wonder if I'll be sucking up much more gas too?
Do you know Gary? or anyone else know?
Thanks again Gary for your willingness to help me out with your part! I really appreciate it. Without this board I wouldn't know any TLR owners and in actuallity no motorcycle riders period!! yep I'm kind of a loner I guess and I'm not a motorcycle group joiner so anyway thanks man, Gene

My TLR was STOLEN!!! F#$&*%@$! This past saturday night, i left her parked out on the street in front of my place cause i'd been riding all day and planned to go out later that night. I almost never park out there because car theft is big around here and because i have a secure parking spot in a garage under my building. I left her on a busy street, right below the window of my condo and figure i would have heard if somebody where to start her because the full M4's are booming loud. I went out later and she was GONE.... -- ChrisG_Boston, 14:53:49 05/03/04 Mon
I figure it must have been a pro who put her in a van or something.
I had tons of time and money into this bike and will probably never get fair value back from my insurance company, but will get as many together receipts to see what i can do.
I checked ebay and will continue to look for the hot parts on the web and in local autotrader mags.
So local Boston area guys, I'd be greatful if you could look out for a TLR that matches the following description, or for these parts being sold off... if you see any that are suspiciously close to these, please PM me so i can check it out:
2001 Suzuki TL1000R - yellow & black color scheme with abrasions on lower fairings both sides & scrape on battery panel; no-cut Bike Design frame sliders with scape on the left one; Intuitive white bar-sliders and swing-arm sliders; M4 full-system exhaust (polished alum.); BMG filter in modded 'troy-v' style airbox; PC-II; TRE; Pair-Valve removed; carbon fiber tank guard; Northwest Cycles carbon fiber rear hugger; cf-look flushmount signals (front), iridium-look signals in rear vent holes and small white signals on either side of plate in bottom of undertray;
Clear-Alternatives clear tail lens w/ LED bulbs; customized yellow-painted 'Hermit Dragon' undertray; trimmed subframe, 'gap-mod'; Goodrich steel-braided brakelines; Attack Performance Rear-sets; Ohlins rear shock.....
Man, i feel sick especially after listing all the mods i've done to her (pardon me while i go bang my head against the wall)!
I don't have any pics to post from here at work, i'll post some later if i get around to it.
I've had this bike since new, put just over 15,000 miles on it. I've been posting on the Blue-board, TLOC and Planet for several years now and learned a lot about this bike and really appreciated it.
This sux. I hate thieves.
I'm kicking myself for procrastinating on getting the new bike alarm that i've been contemplating... although i always did keep a Kryptonite bike lock on it.
Protect your bikes guys, cause just when you think it won't happen to you......GONE.
not sure what i'll do now.

Also being in the uk, I am not too familiar with this brand of exhaust, are they gnerally regarded as good. Apart from an improved exhaust note, is there likely to be any real improvement in power.

I just recieved a Yosh can from ebay, seller neglected to tell me about a spot, (smaller then a dime), where it has been dinged and the carbon fiber is broken with a small piece missing. Some tiny cracks around it. It will not show when mounted, but I wonder about leakage or if it will continue to crack and flake. Is there a product I can use to seal this . . . epoxy or anything else that will harden and last? Please help if you can, gotta decide whether to return the item or not. THANKS!!!

- ABS plastic repair -- Marc Pope, 19:02:23 05/04/04 Tue
Just got through repairing the tiller from a small get off and discovered a good way to repair small cracks and mounting tabs on fairings. The stuff is called Pro Weld. It is a clear liquid you brush on like water. It penetrates the crack or break like water and begins to soften the abs. Continue brushing until the Pro Weld stops penetrating the crack, then allow to dry keeping the parts pressed together during this time. I have repaired a fairing tab and the upper fairing piece under the guages along with the fairing mounting tab on the guage cover with great success. I found this stuff at a hobby center near the model airplanes.

Any good sources or deals. My bike got up to 225 degrees and I’m not sure about the coolant system how to check, cannot get past taking of fairings.
Scared to break some thing I know parts are expensive.

- i got a replacement manual from the bike shop, i am not sure but you might get one from ronayers.com the fans kick on at 225 that is normal ,, i put in a switch and turn my fans on when i want, the coolant bottle is located on the right side fairing, take out the top allen bolts and just pull it back carefully and look at the coolant bottle ,look at the mods link and it tells you how to put in a switch for the fan, the tlr is very easy to take apart ,, take your time and you wont break anything ,, good luck,, (NT) -- bobbyt, 16:57:58 05/03/04 Mon
- On the temperature situation.....I may still have the instructions I wrote to put a manual switch in the right bar control. It kinda looks stock that way. Anyway, just put a seperate switch in the system so you can turn the fans on when you want to. Turn them on at about 190 or so and it'll stay there. I'll look in the next day or two and e-mail the instructions if I still have them. (NT) -- Mike (So. Cal.), 19:00:36 05/03/04 Mon

I replaced my brake pads(front) this past weekend.(Damn $46 per rotor) Anyways When I took off the right hand side pads(right sideif sitting on the bike), I probalbly had roughly 2mm of pad left. But when I took of the left side pads there was about 4-5mm pad left. The only change I made was going form the stock rubber brake lines to braided lines(That is with two lines running off reservoir) Each caliper has its own seperate line. I am stumped by this. I always thought that all 4 pads would wear out equally). Is there any need for concern.

- Repair or Replace? -- I-Geezee (San Hoe's Say), 18:26:05 05/03/04 Mon
Hey kids! I posted a message last week regarding picking up a new set of plastics for the TLR. I am still looking into getting some replacements but this weekend I attempted to jimmy rig something so that it is not readily noticeable to most people. I was wondering if there is a way to repair the cracks and broken pieces and mounts instead of buy the entire thing? It doesn't look too bad now. If I could get some filler or sealer for them and then just get them resprayed it may be a bit cheaper. I could have a friend spray them or attempt to do it myself at work. Any tips or examples that any peeps have done? Buying race plastic or rashed pieces is gonna need to get sprayed anyway. Just asking. Thanks.

- TL1000S coolant leak -- Jim, 12:16:20 04/29/04 Thu
I've got a '97 TLs and I just noticed a coolant leak and I'm looking for info.
There's a small hole in the right side clutch cover just below the forward coolant drain bolt. (The most forward of three)
If you count three bolts up from the oil check window it's just to the right facing front.
I've got a drip of antifreeze coming out of the hole.
I don't remember a bolt being in there and my Suzuki service manual doesn't show anything.
This is a hole that was cast into the cover and I'm wondering if it was supposed to be blocked and for some
reason it's become unblocked.
Has anyone heard of or experienced this problem?
Is there supposed to be a small bolt in there?
Thanks for any info.
Jim.

- TLR Eating Batteries -- J.B., 22:08:45 04/22/04 Thu
Need some help Guys. First my TLR battery died so I bought another one. Two weeks later, battery dies again. The bike shop said that it might be my rectifier. So I buy a new rectifier and battery and in 2 1/2weeks, it dies again(when I turn key, lights come on weak and bike wont turn over). What else could the problem be?

- Cruise Control -- Shane (NZ), 18:28:31 04/21/04 Wed
Going on a 5 day ride in early June, and my bike has been (still is) out of action for some months. So the body (particularily my right shoulder) won't be used to the long saddle time. I remember a while ago seeing a procedure for installing a home made cruise control, does anyone recall where this can be found.
Cheers
Festus

- Still Lean? -- Charlie FL, 18:09:37 04/25/04 Sun
Was having trouble with idle not falling immediately to 1200 rpm after installing 2-1 full system on the TLS, then remapping to +5 +5 +0 @11:00. I've checked the TB boots all OK, still happening. I imagine Gary and Erwin8r are correct in that it is a lean condition, but I cant' think of anything I haven't checked besides the TBs being sync'd. It drops to about 2k rpm and stays, but not always, mostly when I am getting on it a bit, then slowing to a stop w/the clutch in. No dyno yet, so yeah yeah, I know, get it to a dyno, but anyone have any suggestions?
