 Lee, you are so right. On the morning or afternoon of Sept 11, I watched the news coverage of certain sectors of the Mid-East cheering in the streets. I shed an additional tear for them because I wondered what made them "hate" us so much. After I had had time to collect my own emotions enough, I realized it wasn't "hate". It was "envy". Those people have never even been close (thanks to our meddling) to a true taste of Freedom.

The thought comes to me, "What makes a child begin to show his back or rebel against his parents?" It's the desire to show he is grown up and wishes to make decisions for himself. He wants Freedom! As parents, we know when the time is appropriate and let go (if we are smart). When we do that, we make sure that child is ready to take care of himself. We don't waffle to conditions, we make it clear, "there is the path...take it".

Due to our meddling in the affairs of the rest of the world, we have become the indulgent aunt who always rescues the wayward child but wants all their adoration for it. Along that same path, we corrupt the child...make him weak!

The strength of Our nation was born of orphans. No one came to our rescue in either the Revolutionary or Civil War. Yep, France showed up nearly two years later and helped in the Revolution. But for our Founding Fathers, they might have helped us out of all we had fought for. No other nation helped us in the Civil War. They were all too busy licking their chops and waiting to pick the bones of our devasted New World.

The best and most humane thing we can do for any other nation on earth is to butt out. Let them earn their Freedom the way we did. If we stop confusing them (like the indulgent aunt) they might get to it sooner and become proud neighbors.
