Hey George,

Congrats on the boat purchase!

Have you seen this blog:

http://knockaboutsloops.blogspot.com/2008/08/how-to-build-sculling-oar-by-jerome.html

I'm curious to know how it goes. I just got a Santana 22 (old '68 beater) for daysailing. I'm going to use sweeps initially, but want to get a sculling oar going eventually. I figure sculling a little boat will help my sculling technique on Macha!

For the sweeps, I'm going to try some bronze oarlocks made by Edey and Duff with a square base that sits in a winch socket where the handle would go. Kinda pricey ($75 each), but I bet one could get someone local to fabricate a similar for cheaper.

- Ari
