Subject: ... Hey, Acer, Carrotts!! That´s great execise, Acer! One of the few I actually like! LOLOLOL I regret having sold our bikes when we moved to an apartment, but there was just no room for them ... Some 12 years ago we used to take part in a neighborhood´s "Sunday bike-riding" event. It was our own version of a 10k on wheels, and there were hundreds of bikes! It was such fun!

[> I should have known it was going to be a great trip...... -- Carrotts, 14:05:04 05/14/07 Mon

First off we had to sit on the plane for a couple of hours because there was a problem with one of the plane’s APU’s. Dern thing wouldn’t work. Now… now, now, now. I know from APU’s, and where I come from if the APU’s don’t work, we don’t fly. Period. So I was a little taken aback when the pilot said “well we’re going to get a cart in here to jump start the engines, and add more gas – because we are going to have to fly slower and lower than usual – and then we’ll be on our way”. Oh, yeah, wonderful start – we always love to FLY low and slow. So we sat there on the plane for a couple of hours till they got all that together. I think they needed to cart the cart in from Nashville. LOL! But there were several babies and young kids on the plane and I never heard a mumbling word or whimper. I wanted to give all the children candy as a reward…but we still had a couple hours flight to go and I dare not press my luck with hyper babes. LOL! By the way, those kids were good during the entire flight. Love them! And of course the delay meant that our casual stroll through the Dallas airport turned into a mad dash from Terminal C to Terminal A to catch our connection to Colorado Springs. Good grief!

The meeting was a type of consortium of government types, and various private industry folk all coming together to work a common problem, share data, and such because the issue is so big – and costly to fix. So there were Air Force types, and Navy types, and NASA, and then private industry folk who on any other day would be in competition with each other and not sharing nada. Good group.

I met who I thought was an engineering type Harm and Mac. They both work for the Navy, but are civilians. They work the same type issues, so sometimes together s a team, but are in different areas – if that makes sense. Anyway the “Mac” described it best when she said that they work for sister groups so that’s why they often fight like brother and sister. But then they announced that the “Mac” was leaving and wouldn’t be in the group anymore. Darn, they were so cute together. After dinner I decided that she wasn’t Mac, anyway. I found out why she was leaving and frankly I never would have known the whole reason the real Mac was leaving so I’ve decided she is Kate, and maybe next year the real Mac will come. LOL! That guy is Harm though. Yup. He actually works on planes - all the Navy fighter planes. Knows ‘em all, inside and out - literally. Harm would like him. Harm would depend on him.

I got to visit the Air Force Academy. Switched from JAG mode to SG-1. LOL! Watched the gliders training. Don’t think I’d like to learn to fly so close to the mountains. Yikes. Had a tour of the Chapel – well actually several chapels in one. Beautiful. Pikes Peak was gorgeous! Whole top of the mount was covered in snow. I was cold most of the time, but the view more than made up for it. Dunno how they get any work done there. When I wasn’t oohing and ahhing over the outdoor scenery, I was oohing and ahhing over all the people in uniform – with wings. LOL! Pilots were everywhere – guess it had something to do with the Air Force base a stone’s throw away. LOL! Visited and hiked around Garden of the gods. Truly a garden!

Got to visit Air Force Space Command, and was welcomed by an Astronaut who is the NASA liaison to the Air Force Space Command. He talked about his space travels and what goes through his mind during lift-off, and how they did the sunrise/sunset cycle twice every 90 minutes and such. Said since he’s seen the earth from a different angle he knows first hand how thin our atmosphere really is. He thanked us for the job we’re doing. I was totally geeked and probably grinning like the idiot I am.

Got a briefing on Space Command from a female Lt Col. who is the assistant to the General who runs the Command. Now she could have really been Mac…but she was Air Force. LOL! She was fantastic!! She had a problem with the a/v at the start of her talk and this guy (couldn’t tell his rank) in the back told her to “hit the black button in the upper right corner, ma’am” and I was like “Wow, he called her ma’am like he does that all the time. Like they did on JAG” Bet he does. And I was so proud of her, because she is a mover and shaker and boy does she know her stuff…. Which is good. It is Space Command Center after all. LOL!

Then to top it off as we were leaving the hotel on Friday, there were two NASA pilots waiting for the airport shuttle to take them to the airfield. There was a mix-up and the shuttle was going to be late, so my co-worker said we could give them a ride. Even I looked at her like she had lost her mind. LOL! I don't know why they trusted us, I mean really… but they did. They did that unspoken communication thing that Harm and Mac were famous for, and just said “okay, thanks”. And then when we got out to the cars, somehow the man decided to ride with me and the woman with my co-worker. They never discussed it out loud. Just loaded up their gear and got in. Must really be something to that whole partner thing, I swear. I have no idea about their situations, but I’m thinking they are the NASA Harm and Mac – uh, as both pilots instead of lawyers. LOL!! Gosh, I do so want someone to be Harm and Mac! LOL! Took them to the airfield at Peterson AFB where they were flying themselves out to map some potential landing sites…. for a certain aircraft we heard a bit about on JAG by the way. In the two minutes he was in my car I could tell that man loves his job and loves to fly. He was so ready to get up in the air, I’d seen that look before. .. .on Harm. Told ya, LOL!

Then of course we headed to the regular airport to fly commercial and back to RL. Bummer. LOL! It was a great trip – almost didn’t feel like work.

[> [> Carrotts, there was indeed a dull moment during any of your trips!!! Thank you for sharing!! I love the stories!! I was thinking "WOW, there are so many Harm and Mac"!! LOLOL The fight could be scary, though!! Good for the kids!! I know.... My sister's two kids were driving everybody crazy on our way to Hong-Kong!! They were afraid since it was their first flight (I had to hold my niece's hands for the whole trip)!! -- Acer, 00:51:46 05/16/07 Wed
