I posted a suggestion for a topic area for your new board (on the new board under the heading "Shara").

I'm going to miss this old yellow board. I really like the convenience of this format.

  • About the board -- Shara, 04:03:40 09/23/02 Mon
I know that some of you have mixed feelings about moving over to the new forums. I will miss this old board too. It has been around for a while and even the one before this one looked and felt the same way. There are many reasons why we are making the switch. Freedom to choose the type of advertising that is displayed. I'm not happy with all the diet companies that have started putting their ads on this board. Our community does not profit from these ads and I would much rather have my own and put the money toward more bandwidth, better programs etc. for the group. Another reason is that the message board has had too much down time. Three weekends in a row I could not access the boards on Sunday. At least when we have it on our local server we have control over the "on" switch. The final reason is that our community is growing. We need the ability to have more than one board. Don't get me wrong, I am not going to go overboard like some of those sites that have 20 boards and you never know which one to post your question/statements on. I think 4-5 is plenty and I would like to thank the people that have volunteered to moderate those boards. We can use all the people that we can get and those of you who started here, or are frequent members of this board are more than welcome to email me about being a moderator, or if you would like a "special" rank such as Ultimate dieter. :) I've already named a few myself, and if you would rather have another title than the one I gave you please contact me. It's one way that I can give special recognition to the people that contribute to this site. So start telling your friends, and other people at the other sites that you visit and let's get these forums going! Supportamundo!!

  • Challenges -- Shara, 03:15:05 09/23/02 Mon
They are here! Thank you for being so patient with us. Matt has tried to work on them every chance he got and of course my messing him up on the login wasn't good. You are now able to log in to the challenges, create a profile etc. Eventually there will only be one login for this site we just need more time to work on it, so for now you'll have to log in separately. This is a beta program. There will be changes made as we go along and get feeback from the users. Your information such as your email address will be stored privately, but please remember that the challenge information, your weights that you put in, etc. are going to be on a public board. I hope you like them!

  • Snack ideas wanted -- Kel, 12:16:25 09/19/02 Thu
Hiya folks, I'm putting this out there to the group and hoping to get a variety of responses... today I cheated at my morning snack -- not really because I wanted to -- but more that I just couldn't stomach the thought of another LC bar, bag of nuts, jerky stick or ham roll.

So I'm asking my friends here... what are some good snack ideas you can recommend other than those above? Please keep in mind that I am usually in my unit at snack time, so anything I eat has to be packed with me when I leave for work around 8am. I usually have a morning snack around 10am (if I'm not directing traffic around an accident or something), so basically I need something that doesn't require refridgeration. It's rare that I make it home for my snack. I usually make it home for lunch though.

    Any thoughts? Kel

  • Hey guys. -- Sherry, 18:37:50 09/20/02 Fri
So weird, Lately a little at a time I have been trying on old clothes that I have not been able to fit into for some time. Little by little I'm finding things that fit me, that I long ago forgot about wearing.

Last night I tried on a jacket I bought a while back in a size 18 that I never could wear when I bought it. I think I bought it off the rack and didn't try it on when I got it. So it is brand new and I've never worn it. Last night it looked really good on me, buttoned and everything. Plus it went really well with a skirt I haven't worn in ages. A black skirt with bright pink flowers on it. All I need now is a nice black blouse to go with it all.

Slowly little by little I'm slipping back into "normal" size clothing, and I can't tell you how GOOD that feels.

  • Not losing any weight, but getting thinner -- Sherry, 09:13:48 09/21/02 Sat
I found an old bracelet that my husband bought me for I think our 3rd anniversary. At that time it barely fit, I have big bones, and I don't think he realized it, (plus I was fat besides). Anyway it broke at some point, and I stopped wearing it. Last night I decided to try and fix it. One of the links was split open and couldn't be closed unless I had a way to weld gold (I don't), so I removed that link which removed about 1/4 inch from the length of the bracelet.

It fits. I know that before if I had tried fixing it this way I wouldn't have been able to wear it, so that is a milestone.

My friend called me the other day and I was telling her about wearing my wedding dress the other day in spite of being about 50 pounds heavier (she was my bridesmaid).

And she started to tell me a story about her sister. She said that her sister Mary who has always been this tiny little thin thing, started working out with a personal trainer. Her trainer told her not to worry if she gained weight after starting to work out.

Mary was complaining to Pam saying "But I've always weighed 108 pounds, I now weigh 129!" Like she was horrified at that. Muscle weighs more than fat. Believe it.

  • Apple recipe -- Shara, 20:59:52 09/19/02 Thu
I miss making apple pie this time of year, but the recipe that I made tonight turned out pretty good and I thought I would pass it on.

2 med tart apples, peeled, cored and cut in small pieces
1/2 c. pecans (could use walnuts)
3 tbs. Torani sugar free carmel syrup
    3 tbs. butter
    1/2 tsp cinnamon
    1/3 c. sharp cheddar cheese

I used a greased mini muffin pan for this. Mix the apple pieces and pecans and cinnamon together. Put syrup and butter in a small dish and heat in microwave until butter is melted. Pour over apple mixture and place evenly in muffin cups. Top with cheddar cheese and bake at 375 degrees for about 25 minutes or until cheese is bubbly.

This was a really great treat and I put the extra "tarts" in the fridge for breakfast. I loved it warm. It was a little sour so you could add a little extra sweetener if you like. I'm thinking I'll add apple pie spice next time.

By the way, the cookbook had 12000 page views last month! Thanks for all your great recipes!

  • After three days back on induction -- Sherry, 08:55:27 09/19/02 Thu
My scale is back down to 225, my fat calipers measure that I've lost 5.4% fat percentage since the beginning of the month (and the beginning of BFL).

And the best news to me was that I was able to sleep on my stomach last night and it wasn't uncomfortable! Hey wow! I haven't done that in years.

I guess I'm going to have to stay with Atkins low level carbs and BFL workouts. I really wasn't happy with BFL's eating plan, it was making me GAIN weight and water and what seemed to be fat. I guess it wasn't fat, but it felt like it.

  • Nother thing.... -- Shara, 20:18:38 09/18/02 Wed
We discovered that we are able to put a picture of our recipes on the cookbook page! The picture will show up in the lower corner of that recipes page. If you've submitted one and would like to see a picture included you can either email me a file (make sure it says "recipe photo" or some such thing in the subject so I don't delete it as spam), or you can send it to this address:

    dietlowcarb.com
    PO Box 5112
    Glendale, CA 91221

Just put the name of the recipe (or recipe number from the website) with it and I'll be happy to post it.

I'm trying out dishes for the Holiday recipe guide and will try to include pictures of the dishes I make with it. If you are going to take a picture, try doing so on a white background (table cloth or counter), it helps for the website application.

We are plugging away at the new things we're adding. Honestly, who woulda thought this stuff could be so hard?? And I live with a programmer. Maybe it's like the old plumber theory. The plumbers house is always the last one to have the sink unstopped. I'm not gonna say it's ready or nearly done cause I've jinxed it the last two times doing that, but if you want a sneak peak at the forums....

    http://dietlowcarb.com/forums

Moderators are still needed so if you are interested, email me!

I decided to "toughen up and just deal with it" yesterday and I got back on induction. Scale still reads an ugly number, but I think I'm retaining less water. Two more days of this and see if something doesn't start to look better.

I've been in Florida for the past 3 weeks visiting our DS.
    It was hot!

I managed to maintain my weight. I ordered meat or fish with veggies or salad. I had drinks every day with diet mixers and cant believe this WOE. It is great!

Can't seem to figure out my way back to flocers. Not good with the "puter" stuff.

It's been a long time . . . this yellow board still looks like "home" to me. This was the first message board that I had found when I started LC & I have made some really good friends here. Things are going well, I have been LC for 3.5 years now! I always seem to have that last darn 10 or 15 pounds to go . . . always tweaking, always tweaking! LOL! Guess I'll always be a work in progress. How goes it with you guys? Who else is still around? Looks like lots of new folks working hard at it!

  • Good morning -- Sherry, 07:29:56 09/18/02 Wed
Happy Wednesday! Well I think this month's challenge was well named. I feel like I'm getting tougher and tougher. How well I'm dealing with it is another issue, but you can't get much tougher at trying. After 2 days of induction and (probably) low calorie, and after 2 and a half weeks of working out nearly every day (but 3), I'm almost starting to find it funny.

All I can say is that whoosh fairy better come soon, she's almost got me convinced that she doesn't intend to come at all! She's probably going to let TOM come and go first, and then she'll show her sheepish head.
