  • Loose skin -- Shara, 16:12:11 08/06/02 Tue
All right the verdict is in and I've decided NOT to have the tummy tuck done after all. I have been contemplating this for a while due to the lose skin that I've had since losing weight, but after a lot of research I've found that skin that appears loose does so due to an additional amount of "loose fat" under it. I've been reading books and articles and have asked quite a few specialist about this and the truth is that your skin does and will start to shrink once you have lost enough weight. It may not be the original skin you were born with, but it should also not sag once all the pockets of fat are lost. I've learned that we can carry up to 25 lbs of fat under that "loose skin" and when we see the diet through and lose those last little bits, the skin should start going back to a tighter state. These are also the hardest bits of body fat to lose. Exercise will help, especially if you start filling those flabby areas with lean body tissue. It's still a good idea to get a good idea to get a good body cream (I'm working on the research for that one too) and to moisturize yourself after a shower. So now I'm going to push myself to get the last bits off and use the $8000 that the surgery would have cost me and go on a great vacation as my reward when I'm through. Anyone want to join me in Hawaii??

FIBER WILL RIP UP YOUR COLON! If you eat too much...and by the looks of it, your headed down that road. That's too bad. Just eat leaves and sticks and there's your source of fiber for 24 hours. Have fun!

P.S: Because of doing this so called, "fiber diet", I have a massive hole in my colon...good luck!

I have a 2 month old who is eating 2 hourly at the moment to help build up my milk supply. I was told to make sure that she is drinking the let down but no one has been able to explain to me if I am getting a good let down for her to drink. I would love to know how I know if I am getting a good let down or not.

  • Loose skin -- Adam, 08:52:51 09/29/04 Wed
im male. I weighted 266 pounds and i was 19yrs old. i went on the atkins diet, and within a year i reduced my weight to 154 pounds. i am now 22.
i have so much loose skin around my body its unbelievable, im disgusted to look in the mirror at myself when im naked. i havent had no intimacy with anyone because i look like a freek and am disfigured. i have less self confidence now then i had when i was fat because at least when i was fat, my body would have been considered normal for a fat person.

but now i look slim, but have all this loose skin, without my clothes on, i look like a disgusting mess.

What hurts the most is that iv realised their isnt nothing i can do about it. i did so much research into loose skin, i also heard about reducing my body fat percentage to under 10%.

i did so, my body fat percentage is 6 % and i still have nasty droopy folds of skin. i have used numberous creams and lotions for lengthy periods of time but hasnt made a single bit of difference (also tried copper peptides etc).

again the only real option is surgery, but to have a normal body just like everyone else, a timmy tuck wont be enough, i would have to get my legs, thighs, back, arms EVERYTHING done. and i seriously do not have the money for this kind of surgery which really makes me sad.

Its wot the diet industry dont worn us about...

im so depressed its unreal. :-( sometimes i feel like toppin myself, all i want is to have a normal body and go swimming and wear t-shirts during summer and most of all be able to be intimate with someone, bein able to let people hug me and hold me without thinkin wots wrong with his body (its happened to me on a few occasions where someone had hugged me and they felt the fold of my skin and they said ''wot the fuck was that, eeeer'') that really hurt me :-(

if only i never put on weight in the first place.. i was so hopefull when i real the ''myth of loose skin'' and stuff it really boosted my confidence so i worked real hard to reduce my body fat by weight training, creating muscle and aerobic cardio, and i lost a whole load of body fat, went down from 19 to 6%.
but the loose skin just looks even worse. i have muscles underneath the skin, and the skin just hangs, its so sad.

if only i could look normal......

  • loose skin after pregnancy -- Kristy/23, 21:14:03 12/04/04 Sat
On the subject of loose skin after pregnancy, I've read many articles. Most say plastic surgery, few say lose excess pounds. I've never had such trouble with my body. My son is now 10 months old and I'm probably 4 pounds over my usual weight, 125. I've always been proportioned. Not anymore. However, I've watched surgeries of tummy tucks on t.v. and when they remove the "excess skin" it does look like there is a lot of fat unevenly layered there. I don't want to disappoint any one. Skin is really not that thick. I'm taking nursing classes. Skin is not what the are only taking off. Still, I don't know the answer. Is the skin just not holding the fat anymore, or is the fat just not as compact as it was before? Is there anyone who has gotten there stomach back without surgery? I just thought, wow, most of this stuff removed looks like skin with about an inch or two of fat underneath it. I just want to know is there a chance without workin myself out 24 hours a day or putting my skin under the knife?

I lost 21 lbs in 6 day on the Atkins diet. I was amazed!! I thought it might be water loss, but I have doubled my water intake. I now drink 2 gallons of water a day since I have been in the diet. I am grossly overwight, and perhaps this accounts for my initial weight loss of 21 lbs in 6 days. I went from 442 to 421 lbs. The keto stix said I only had a trace amount of ketones, but everyday I am lossing pounds!

low carb breads that are now available and i feel so less deprived.
i have trouble with the water though.
it is really hard for me to drink a lot of water.

  • as if things weren't bad enough... -- Drama, 20:15:19 09/03/02 Tue
Hey everyone. I just needed to vent some frustration, your comments seem to make me feel better. Anyway, 1st my scale is broken, Thank you to my children for that. 2nd, as if running over peoples pets wasn't bad enough. So I haven't drove since the cat incident, prior to that it was the kids puppy, then today, I have to take my son to the doctor, well wouldn't you know something bad was bound to happen. Luckily this time it was NOT MY FAULT!!! So we get to the Dr office parking lot and this lady just starts backing up, right into me! Now my car is beat up, my shoulder and neck are killing me, and I can hardly walk. So there goes my excercise til I feel better. The Dr gave me some muscle relaxers for the stiffness, and a pain pill. Tomorrow I find out if this lady really has insurance, when my husband called the insurance place they said they didn't have any policy on her. So now, plz tell me when things will get better? I haven't done anything wrong that I know of to be getting punished like this. My husband says that sometimes bad things just happen to good people. Well I don't want to be so good anymore if this is what happens to good people. Well to top it off, I cheated today, so much for toughen up and deal with it? I was a whimp today, oreos got the better of me. Anyways, I guess I will start over tomorrow, wish me luck!!! Thanks for listening. Drama

I know it is high in protein, but I was wondering if it's also high in carbs....I hope not, because I just ate it! (LOL!) Any info would be appreciated.

  • Maltitol -- Russ Bianchi, 12:57:04 09/24/02 Tue
Maltitol is a polyol/alcohol distilled reduced calorie
sweetener that is PROVEN to be cancer causing atlow to moderate ingestion levels and was DENIED GRAS (Generally
Recognized As Safe) status by the US FDA in 1994 in a petition from Towa Chenical of Japan. Maltitol cannot be self affirmed GRAS or GRAS after being DENIED by the FDA!

Affirmations by Polyol Producers, or bought lobbying/publicist groups for them, suggesting there is no maximum limit for consumption of maltitol on a daily basis are BOGUS! As little 1 gram per day in infants, children, pregnant women, hypoglycemics, diabetics, seniors, and many other health compromised categories is enough to cause severe gastro intestinal distress.

After the DENIAL of GRAS status by the US FDA on Maltitol, the polyols producers tried to float out affirmations from Joint Expert Food Safety Panels of the UN and WHO (1997 & 1998, after emerging under their self exiled rock, that maltitol was just fine for human comsumption, but these international panels are NOT the legal regulatory bodies in the USA (FDA is), Canada (Health Canada is) and EU (MAFF is). We invite the polyol producers to try to consume 100 grams per day of any polyol themselves, let alone this 'so called' expert panel they tout; no human stomach can tolerate 100+ grams of polyols without big time toilet time.

Affirmations that Maltitol is OK for preventing dental caries as an argument for food or beverage are also BOGUS, folks chewing gum, mouth wash, breath mints, toothpaste, etc., are under COSMETIC law in the USA, not Code of Federal Regulation standards for food or beverage consumption.

Recently, the polyol crowd has been up to their old tricks by suggesting polyols, being reduced calorie, are ideal for high protein and low refined carbohydrate diet and product regiment. Not only is this false, but how many repeat customers are you going to have on a brand that causes severe gastro intenstinal distress, mineral and vitamin depletion and cancer? Why not just put a Skull & Cross Bones on your front panel?

The polyol guys are also suggesting maltitol is good for confectionery and in partucluar real chocolate manufacture or coatings. In point of fact, the Chocolate Manufacturers Association lobbied successfully to eliminate polyols from the definitional standard of 'real chocolate' in the USA, per CFR, because of the legal liability factor
over the denial of 'cancer causing' highly laxative Maltitol
being connected to wholesome real 'chocolate', to say nothing about consumer class action law suits.

By the way, there are MUCH more lower cost, much more safe or GRAS, functional for temperature and bulking formulation
methodologies, for 'no sugar added' claims currently legally available in the USA, Canada and the EU than the low sweetening factor, laxative and cancer causing options like Maltitol and polyols.

  • Missed the chat yesterday! -- Lanie, 03:30:38 06/12/02 Wed
Hello, all! I had been looking forward to joining the chat yesterday, but my car overheated on the way to physical therapy. I've been having lots of trouble with it and am about to bite the bullet and get a new one. The therapy is for my shoulder. I recently tore my rotator cuff and had surgery to fix it. So, I'm on the road to repair there too!

I've been doing great on induction! I started Sunday and am down 3 lbs. That's such a great start and it makes it so much easier to do once I've seen a little progress. I have 25-30 more to lose. Not putting myself on a time frame, just doing it! Was very happy that I didn't come home and eat out of stress yesterday. Of course, since I live alone and got rid of most of the carbs in my house, I would have had to get out the baking stuff and make something from scratch. Luckily, that just seems like too much trouble!

Hope everyone has a great LC day!
    Take care,
    Lanie

  • 5-HTP -- Nadia, 08:27:40 06/20/03 Fri
    Hi my name is Nadia,

My 1st time posting a message here. I would like to know if anyone can help me on this. I am 26yrs old, and had lost a lot of weight from 1999 to 2001. I was very thin and happy!! But, I was using alot of ectasy and alcohol and diet pills like xenadrine, herbalife, etc. I no longer do drugs and take diet pills (2yrs now) and even quit smoking 5 mos. ago. But, I have gained all the weight back I went from 140 to 175 lbs. I am 5'9" and don't look like I weigh 175, but, hardly any of my clothes fit anymore and need to lose weight. I also get very depressed and think about my weight all day long. I read about 5-HTP, is this safe to take?? Has anyone tried this. I'm not a very depressed person, but I do have slight OCD sometimes and get depressed about the way I look all the time. Can someone give me some advice. Just a note, I do eat good food, but yes, I still have my sweets from time to time, this is what I need help on not having cravings for all the time. I have tried Atkins, I could not last on it - made me sick with all the fat I had to eat. HELP ME!!

  • Newbie on Atkins having trouble -- Kayla, 08:33:44 05/18/03 Sun
Hi everyone! I have actually been on Atkins for about a month. I had a hard time reaching the 10 pound mark, then 11 pounds and now I am back to only losing 9 pounds. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have stayed on the Induction phase of the diet. I have been told it might be because of the medication I am on which is Paxil and birth control. I started exercising last week walking a mile in the AM and a mile in the PM on a treadmill. That seemed to help but I am very discouraged. Does anyone have any advice? Thank You! :)

Today I hit a new milestone. I DO, have a milestone every 5 pounds, but today I hit one. My new weight is 232!!! I've lost 35 pounds now!!! Only 82 pounds to go!!! I've lost 29% of the weight that I need to lose! I've lost a 3 year old!!! I've lost 13% of myself!!!

Sorry, for the excess enthusiasm. I'm just so proud of myself right now, and wanted to post it so that I'd have something to look back at the next time I get discouraged.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is good for me. The worst I feel the more determined I'm becoming. It only tells me that I really was (*whispering... and I always knew I was) addicted to sugar. I have the shakes, I'm dead to the world... THANK GOODNESS I'M ON VACATION THIS WEEK!!! *S But I really do feel good. I know I'm finally thinking of Teresa and caring about her just as much as others in my life. That is a big thing to a people pleasing serving only daughter of four little brothers.... girl! *giggling. So you know what. I may be 40 and the happiest I've ever been in my life because I've learned how to love me just as I am..... but... by January 19, 2003......I'll be 41 and rid of all links of past hurts and self distruction and ready for the next challenge...... hmmmmmm what will it be? :)))) hugs everyone and thank you for all your encouragements, prayers and stories!!

I was really disappointed when I didn't lose weight this month. I have been indulging in 2 "carb free" candy bars a day because I thought it was all legal. Today by chance I read an article that said Maltinol has been shown to stall or even stop weight loss. I wish I'd known. The good news is I haven't gained.

    Good Luck!!!

I've been low-carbing for a little over a month now. I think I have to "start over" because I haven't been losing and when I finally tested today, I'm not even close to ketosis!! Oh well. I want to tell you about a great discovery I made today...KETO SPAGHETTI!!! I wasn't expecting much, because I had read so many negative reviews about low carb pasta, but I noticed a pleasant aroma as it was cooking and it actually came out having a great pasta texture!!! I didn't have any low carb pasta sauce so I just did a butter and garlic thing. It was very mild, no aftertaste that I noticed. I was so thrilled with this pasta!!! I recommend it highly!!

  • About the board -- Shara, 04:03:40 09/23/02 Mon
I know that some of you have mixed feelings about moving over to the new forums. I will miss this old board too. It has been around for a while and even the one before this one looked and felt the same way. There are many reasons why we are making the switch. Freedom to choose the type of advertising that is displayed. I'm not happy with all the diet companies that have started putting their ads on this board. Our community does not profit from these ads and I would much rather have my own and put the money toward more bandwidth, better programs etc. for the group. Another reason is that the message board has had too much down time. Three weekends in a row I could not access the boards on Sunday. At least when we have it on our local server we have control over the "on" switch. The final reason is that our community is growing. We need the ability to have more than one board. Don't get me wrong, I am not going to go overboard like some of those sites that have 20 boards and you never know which one to post your question/statements on. I think 4-5 is plenty and I would like to thank the people that have volunteered to moderate those boards. We can use all the people that we can get and those of you who started here, or are frequent members of this board are more than welcome to email me about being a moderator, or if you would like a "special" rank such as Ultimate dieter. :) I've already named a few myself, and if you would rather have another title than the one I gave you please contact me. It's one way that I can give special recognition to the people that contribute to this site. So start telling your friends, and other people at the other sites that you visit and let's get these forums going! Supportamundo!!

They are here! Thank you for being so patient with us. Matt has tried to work on them every chance he got and of course my messing him up on the login wasn't good. You are now able to log in to the challenges, create a profile etc. Eventually there will only be one login for this site we just need more time to work on it, so for now you'll have to log in separately. This is a beta program. There will be changes made as we go along and get feeback from the users. Your information such as your email address will be stored privately, but please remember that the challenge information, your weights that you put in, etc. are going to be on a public board. I hope you like them!

  • Snack ideas wanted -- Kel, 12:16:25 09/19/02 Thu
Hiya folks, I'm putting this out there to the group and hoping to get a variety of responses... today I cheated at my morning snack -- not really because I wanted to -- but more that I just couldn't stomach the thought of another LC bar, bag of nuts, jerky stick or ham roll.

So I'm asking my friends here... what are some good snack ideas you can recommend other than those above? Please keep in mind that I am usually in my unit at snack time, so anything I eat has to be packed with me when I leave for work around 8am. I usually have a morning snack around 10am (if I'm not directing traffic around an accident or something), so basically I need something that doesn't require refridgeration. It's rare that I make it home for my snack. I usually make it home for lunch though.

    Any thoughts? Kel

  • Hey guys. -- Sherry, 18:37:50 09/20/02 Fri
So weird, Lately a little at a time I have been trying on old clothes that I have not been able to fit into for some time. Little by little I'm finding things that fit me, that I long ago forgot about wearing.

Last night I tried on a jacket I bought a while back in a size 18 that I never could wear when I bought it. I think I bought it off the rack and didn't try it on when I got it. So it is brand new and I've never worn it. Last night it looked really good on me, buttoned and everything. Plus it went really well with a skirt I haven't worn in ages. A black skirt with bright pink flowers on it. All I need now is a nice black blouse to go with it all.

Slowly little by little I'm slipping back into "normal" size clothing, and I can't tell you how GOOD that feels.

  • Not losing any weight, but getting thinner -- Sherry, 09:13:48 09/21/02 Sat
I found an old bracelet that my husband bought me for I think our 3rd anniversary. At that time it barely fit, I have big bones, and I don't think he realized it, (plus I was fat besides). Anyway it broke at some point, and I stopped wearing it. Last night I decided to try and fix it. One of the links was split open and couldn't be closed unless I had a way to weld gold (I don't), so I removed that link which removed about 1/4 inch from the length of the bracelet.

It fits. I know that before if I had tried fixing it this way I wouldn't have been able to wear it, so that is a milestone.

My friend called me the other day and I was telling her about wearing my wedding dress the other day in spite of being about 50 pounds heavier (she was my bridesmaid).

And she started to tell me a story about her sister. She said that her sister Mary who has always been this tiny little thin thing, started working out with a personal trainer. Her trainer told her not to worry if she gained weight after starting to work out.

Mary was complaining to Pam saying "But I've always weighed 108 pounds, I now weigh 129!" Like she was horrified at that. Muscle weighs more than fat. Believe it.
