  • Happy 4th everyone. -- Chati, 23:50:46 07/04/02 Thu
Happy 4th everyone! Thanks so much for all the good tips. I found the Diet Rite soda. I don't drink much soda but it is good to have when the craving hits. I also found that I was not eating enough (when I felt like I needed to eat, I always grabbed the pork rinds, seemed like that was my whole diet lately). I put myself back on induction yesterday, trying to rev things up again. I have only been able to work out one time this week because on Monday I became a Great-Aunt and went out of town to see the new baby (She's absolutely beautiful). I can always feel a difference when I don't work out at least three times a week.

We had a cook out today and I had a burger (no bun of course) and salad. Sure was hard watching everyone eat their home-made ice cream (which I made) and cake, but I did it. Mostly because we watched some home movies from my daughters wedding in 1997, and when I saw myself, I cried. I asked my daughter just how many chins I had and she said "3 mom, but just look at you now." I don't know how I ever let myself gain so much. I am only 4"10 and every single pound shows. I refuse to gain it back, everytime I thought about that ice cream, I saw the person from 5 yrs. ago and the craving went away.

Sorry so long, Thanks again for all the great ideas and suggestions. It is great to have you all to talk to. Take Care.

I've noticed a lot more people coming here to advertise lately. Especially for the "carb blocker" type supplements. I have been deleting these messages; mostly because this site does not sponsor these drugs and also the fact that we have our own store that through our affiliate companies are able to help keep this site free. So if you find a bargain somewhere that's fine go ahead and post it, but otherwise please check our store if you are thinking of buying your products online.

I hope everyone had a great holiday, Matt is at home today plunking away at the keyboard to finish the challenge program. Today I'm painting the guest house, but it's pretty good exercise too.

In the past, I have been on various LW WLP but need some help this time around and a fresh start to lose an additional 30 lbs. Any help, suggestions, and/or opinions is greatly appreciated. So today I will try again to do my best to avoid carbs. I'm recommitting to the no cheat challenges. I hope everyone else who found themselves eating carbs yesterday will join us.

  • What now?? -- Woochie, 06:27:26 07/05/02 Fri
Since November of last year, I've lost over 30 pounds on a low calorie weight loss plan. I understand that the body may "take a break" after 30 pounds of weight loss. However, I am hoping one of you can answer my question: if I were to start a low carb weight loss plan, would I start losing again? Or, how long should I wait before starting any weight loss plan, in view of the loss I've experienced the past several months? Thanks for any help.

Wow - you guys really opened my eyes. I am on a plateau too. I haven't lost weight in 2 weeks. I went to the calorie counter and found I have only eaten 350 calories so far today. With my planned supper it is only 856 calories. But I am not hungry. What do I do. What can I eat that won't make me gain the 17 lbs I have lost. I am still 195 lbs. and want to lose 50 more lbs. before the year ends. I walk 1 mile every day.

  • Ok I know I've been pretty absent for awhile.... -- Nancy, 08:09:51 07/03/02 Wed
Back on board, day 3 on induction, staying with my plan.

Had basically run amuck since Mother's Day. Sigh.

I started off well everytime I tried, and then just screwed up later in the day or once I was home from work. Getting on the scale a few days ago was a real shocker, let me tell you! So due to that, and the fact that I have my job medical recheck in August, I'm back on.

Now just wish me luck, going to a Six Flags Park for the 4th and 5th and straight to work on the 6th. I've already scoped out their website's snack and food concessions for the park I'm going to, to prepare, lol.

I'll be checking out the boards as usual later on, once I'm home from work this AM, so if I dont get a chance later, have a great 4th and eat those burgers! LOL.

  • Still too much stress... -- Katie, 10:49:31 07/02/02 Tue
There's so much going on around here, that I'm having trouble staying focused. The boy is no longer with us (broke the rules one time too often), but while that cut stress on one level, I now have to cart Austin around with me everywhere I go.

Austin seems to have hit the terrible two's 9 months early. He throws tantrums every time you have to take something away from him, every time he gets hungry, and every time he gets tired. This amounts to about 4 tantrums a day when I'm working and he's in daycare and about 15 tantrums a day when I'm home with him. I finally get him down for a nap and I just collapse until it's time to get him up again. He's sure a sweet little guy, but he does wear me out.

I've decided to be "nice" to myself this week, and not work so hard on losing more weight. My goal this week is to maintain my weight, and I'm doing more of a CALP thing towards that end. My SO and I are going to go back on induction on Friday (not sure for how long yet).

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful LC week so far. You all inspire me to try harder, and I feel so lucky to have found all of you.

Keep up the good work, and know that I'm here in the background cheering you on!

The database is almost done. I was hoping to have it first thing this morning but we still have a few things to work on. Matt had some really good ideas. It made it a bit more complex than I had in mind but I think you'll be pleased. Member progress page as well as monthly, weekly and 3 day goals. You can sign up for as little or as many as you like. It will keep your information stored so you only have to login with your weight. The rest is already done. So weigh in and keep your weight handy. You'll also be able to back date it if you want to track from the beginning of your diet. I'll keep you posted.

Taking Amy to the dentist today to talk about braces. Her 16th B-day is in a few weeks. I can't believe it. I'm planning a party at the house for her. We have a guest house that I'm going to decorate since many of the kids are staying overnight. Any ideas about themes?? Amy is also on the diet. She stays at around 50 carbs a day so she is not in deep ketosis, but it has worked well for her. She has been able to keep 17 lbs off this year and plans on losing another 15 by the end of summer. We have been reading about Syndrome X lately and I'm finding it very interesting. I'll post my findings on the next newsletter since I believe some people here fall into the same category. I carry most of my weight in my stomach and that is one of the symptoms.
Anyway, I'll see some of you in Chat later. If you haven't been there, we've been having a great time and you should join us. I got the idea of having a "memorial wall" on the website from our last chat. It would kind of be a place to post the things that you miss and don't miss from dieting. Oreo cookies, not being able to fit in a airline seat....and so on. I thought it might be interesting. I'm thinking of a brick wall motif?? Let me know what you think.

  • Putting the pizza place out of business... -- Kel, 06:31:28 07/02/02 Tue
I swear if I see a sign go up that the pizza place is going out of business, I'm pretty sure I'm the cause of it. Just for funsies, I went back into my checkbook register to see how often I used to order pizza (I usually write a check). Back before April 02, I learned that I ordered pizza at least twice per week, sometimes three times per week. There was ONE week where I actually ordered every other day! Funny, I don't even remember being sick of pizza that week; in fact I don't remember the week at all (must be a carb-overload thing).

Anyway, am I sure glad I don't eat that way anymore -- no wonder I was so fat! No wonder I was so depressed about being so fat. No wonder I decided I needed some things to change immediately. Well folks, it's day 2 of our 1st 3-day no cheat challenge for July. Yesterday I was kinda hungry all day, but I fought it and pretty much won. Hopefully today won't be as hard.

  • Help with "low-carb safe" foods. -- Chati, 16:37:45 07/01/02 Mon
Hi all, this is my first time here, but I need help. I started Atkins on Jan. 1, 2002 and so far have lost 37 lbs. and 30 inches. I went from a size 22 to a 14 and feel great. But my problem is I have stalled completely. I even have started feeling "FAT" again. I haven't gained anything but I look like I have. I depend on the Advantease shakes and bars. I have been reading some of the postings here about how they are not good, but the bars say " Contains glycerin, malitol, proplene glycol and fiber- all of which are non-impact carbs and have a negligble impact on blood sugars." How can they say this? What can I do to get the ball rolling again. I still have about 45 lbs to lose and it just won't go. Any ideas?

July Challenge(s)! Is everyone ready?? I know I am! I am feeling supercharged and ready to go! My goal is to be 141 for sure at the end of this month (it would be really great to be 140)!

I can't wait to see what Shara posts for our database. Katie, thank you so much for helping with it's design. I just know it's going to be great with the two of YOU working on it - it's got to be!

Exercise - our very own exercise guru Sherry seems to be just loving her new workout program. Very cool. I'd like to be able to do that eventually too. It's just that every time I've attempted to do both diet and exercise, I've given up, and I don't want that to happen this time, so I'm focusing on diet first. I'm fairly active anyway in my job, I walk a lot, I'm in and out of the car 100 times a day; I'm walking the beach several times a day and ALL day on Sundays. I certainly know the importance of being fit because I know how hard it is to run in my job when I'm not in shape. One of my Criminal Justice professors also teaches Ju-Jitsu (sp?), and I might just take it this fall. I need to stay in shape for my job and plus I need one more PE lol. But I'm not going to worry about that until fall. For now I'm just focusing on diet and this month's challenge! Got goals?

Hi guys , I have to share this with you.

I had some roasted chicken and as soon as I tasted it I new it had sugar. Anyhoo I figured that a small amount would not hurt. An hour later I CRASHED majorly. I was so fatigued I could barely move. I thought I was carb sensitive but I had never had such strong confirmation before!

Oh, and I crashed on the program yesterday. Went to lunch in a fancy hotel. Passed on the rolls, passed on the carbs in the delicious entree, but then they served apple pie. I'm sorry, I could not resist apple pie, it's my absolute favorite dessert. Major cheat. Fortunately I did not eat enought to kick me out of ketosis.

I'm back on track today and doing great.

  • We'll set up a table -- Shara, 08:25:41 06/28/02 Fri
Kel, I talked to Matt last night and he said he would put together a database with a table on the website for anyone to track what they want. He wanted more information so that we could every list everything they would want to see on the table. I know that it would be for the July challenges so that would be a weight table every three days? Sherry talked about an exercise challenge. Basically you would each have a password to log into your "area" and post what you want and then be able to change the data. Logging into our databases here would be impossible since they have so much information in them and I wouldn't want to lose anything. It would show as a list list on the table in order of names (or as people signed up whichever is better) and have all the information follow the name. There could even be several tables. You can list the ideas here or email them to me. Thanks for the input!

Hey everyone, the recipe database is really growing. I'm trying to add everything that I can think of that went over well at my house.

I keep thinking about some easy recipes since I know that you like to keep it simple. Unfortunately most of the things that went over really well at my house were things that seem to end up sounding complicated.

Most of them are things that I've thrown together out of whatever I could find in my fridge at dinner time. I do try to keep our diet varied though so that my SO won't want to give up.

Hey -- On a different note -- Guess what I saw today??? I saw the very beginning of my stomach muscles!!!!! Who knew there were muscles under all that fat? By the looks of it, somewhere way down the road I will actually have an okay looking stomach. Could hip huggers be in my future?

I see advertisments for all these diet aids (Hydroyxcut, Xennadrine, etc.) Does anyone use them? What are your thoughts of them? Will they effect ketosis? Thanks for your imput.

We've had a wonderful response to the cookbook online! Since last week we've added over 60 recipes. Remember the recipe contest! Whoever adds the most recipes to the database from now until July 15 wins a free sample box of cookies from the Low Carb Cookie Company ! This winner will also have a chance to win the free 3 month subscription to the low carb cookie of the month club.
We thought that using this promotion will help us advertise some of the affiliate programs we belong to. (They help us pay for the website hosting) And it's also a great way to share information with our readers.

I also wanted to thank Katie for giving us a head start by adding some recipes already.

    Thanks for your support!

I agree with you Katie and Kel that June has been a very effective month. These little three day no cheat challenges have kept us on track pretty well.

I definitely agree that we should continue them.

But I do want something a little new and different for our July challenge. How about an excercise challenge?

I was thinking along the lines of "Pick ONE new activity per week during July that will excercise your muscles, burn calories, and help to slim you down."

So if you are already working out, you need to work a new muscle group, or add in some aerobics, or add in some resistance (weight) training, or maybe pick something fun to start doing, like going bowling, or roller skating or bike riding.

Or if you are really strapped for time, small changes like parking at the far end of the lot when you go to work, or taking the stairs rather than the elevators...

    What do you all think?

I am new to this board but not to lo-carb. I won't bore you with my life story but I do have to say that I have been having a VERY hard time getting back on track after doing PERFECT for 3 weeks in which I lost about 7 lbs. I was stressed and depressed this past Monday and went carb crazy. Well that lasted for a couple of days and today I've really struggled (I've eaten about 10 servings of honey roasted peanuts!!!!--STUPID!!). Why am I 100% one way or the other?!! My family has marveled at my "will power" over the past few weeks and now I feel like a failure. Anyway I REALLY want to get back on track so please count me in on the challenge. I will start full force in the morning.
    My stats are

  • Good morning -- Sherry, 09:12:37 06/27/02 Thu
How is everyone today? I'm going to go work out in a few minutes, need to keep this body's metabolism reved up.

I can't believe June is almost over. Only two more days to reach my goal for the month. I pulled out my old Tanita scale the other day, it told me I was down 4% on my fat percentage thing. I haven't used that scale in a long time because it began weighing me inaccurately (too low) after it got wet, so it has been put away.

Things are going better at work, we actually fixed a few of our old dogs, and they will be leaving soon. I'm going in today and start on something new, I'm going to look for something a little easier and see if I can't push some of these out the door a little faster.

What are we going to do for the July challenge? Anyone have any ideas?

The cool news is that I am now working from my home. No more commute in los angeles! My statistic status has dropped about 50 points for that one. I will be able to do more on the website and post some more here too. I've missed not being able to spend as much time here as I used to. Maybe now I'll be able to drop that last 20 lbs that have been tormenting my scale.

I spent some time on the other low carb sites last night wondering if there is other things that can be added to our site that would be helpful for you. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Your opinion matters to me.

Speaking of the other sites.....sheesh since when has low carb dieting become such a touchy thing?? I took a few minutes to talk on one of the sites and used my usual signature that included a link to our site. Just a habit really. Well I got a two page email back from the site administrator about my lawless advertising ways! I mean HOLY CRAP BURGERS, ya got nothin else better to do but give people shit that took the time to come to your site??
Needless to say I'm very glad to come back here and sit in our nice comfy message board where everyone's opinion is welcome, good or bad. (I told her to post her stuff here if she had something to say.) Bet that will give the site (which I will not mention in order to protect the innocents that probably roam about the different boards each day) the warm homey feeling she wants.

Just wanted to let you know I love you guys!

now please follow the links to our cash field...... hehe(sorry, bad joke) *hug*

I said that I wasn't going to bore you--sorry for lying! I just wanted to mention that I have it in me to be either very lean and "hot-bodied" (for lack of a better phrase!) or chubby and fat. I have been as small as a size 2 or as big as a 16plus (after having kids). Last summer I was 125lbs. and looked great. Anyways I gain weight EXTREMELY easily.
I suppose that's why I really should regard lo-carb as a WOL instead of a temporary WOE.

  • Sick to my stomach -- Katie, 12:18:03 06/27/02 Thu
I've been sick to my stomach since Monday. Really bad cramps and diarrhea. At first I thought it was carb overload from Sunday, but now I'm starting to think that it's the glorious heat wave that we have going on here. The only good point is that it is making it really easy to stick to plan. I certainly don't want to feel even worse than I do already.

I saw Sherry's message about a July challenge. I like the idea, but think that maybe a database for July progress, and a progression of 3 day NCC might work? I always feel like a failure when we do the month long ones and I mess up. This way, I'd have 10 chances to get it right, so even if I messed up during one of them, I'd have a 90% chance of doing well.

    What does anyone else think?

    Hi All,

New here, know all about low carb and believe in it. I finally decided it's time to do something about it and put into action in my life. I'm hoping it will be easier this time since my husband is joining in with me. I have 150 lbs to lose. I can't believe it, but it's true, anyway, I started Tues and scale dropped 2 lbs. I've read the bigger you are the more you drop, especially at first, but I already feel the energy coming on strong and I like it sooooo much. My son is graduating from high school next year, May 2003, he's at top of his class, my goal is to lose a lot lot by then. So......I'm really committing this time.

Hey everybody! I'm a newbie, to this site, not to LC. I have lost eighty pounds many, many years ago on LC before the popularity of this way of eating caught fire. Lost sixty pounds about four years ago, but was not their "mentally" to keep it off.

Well this is it, it's now or never. I started at 225 on June 11th, did good all week, refused to weigh. Lost my mind from June 14th through June 16th, my twin daughters had twin chocolate birthday cakes and of course I had twin helpings of each. Re-grouped on Monday and here I am now..down to 217 and those sticks are turning dark purple!!!

I was a little discouraged, hoping the scale would be a little more encouraging, but feel better after talking in chat with everyone tonight. I am diabetic (type II) and this way of eating is wonderful for my sugar. Have been able to cut my med in half!!!

My goal weight is 125, which means I am going for the big 100 pounds. Only 83 more to go.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful posts, they definitely keep my motivated and encouraged.

    Nice to meet everybody!!!

Hi everyone!!! I hope you're all doing good (and not just with the WOE). I personally am very glad to be alive.

I went to Portland (250 miles from where I live) for a concert with my friends on Saturday. Half an hour into the road trip the car caught on fire. This was in a remote, but well-travelled area with no call boxes. I was grabbing our stuff out of the trunk, and trying to get past the car when the first explosion occurred. Luckily, I and my friends were unhurt.

It took us about 5 minutes to get someone to stop, and another 25 minutes for the fire department to get there. By the time the fire was out, the car was destroyed (glass melted, tires melted, all metal warped). After finally managing to get ahold of someone to get a ride home, we got in another car and still went to the concert. The concert was incredible. Even from the nosebleed seats, Pink is an unbelievable performer.

Due to shock, stress, lack of food options, poor planning, etc., I made very, very poor food choices on Sunday. I ate the continental breakfast at the hotel, and within an hour I was feeling very dizzy and tired. I slept most of the way home.

Monday I had very bad carb hangover. I stuck to plan, and I was starting to feel better after dinner. I ran out to do an errand, and MY car died. Guess it's a good thing that my car wasn't our second choice for the trip.

I've been on plan since Monday, so hopefully this won't have set me back too far. I'm still not going to weigh in again until Saturday, so I'll find out then.

I had my "cheat" dinner lastnight and I gotta say it was quite tasty. I'm all bloated this morning, but as long as it was for only one meal, I think it was worth it. I got the craving out of my mind and now I can re-focus on my plan. I still have whatever I might have gained from lastnight plus one more pound to lose to meet my goal at the end of June. If I stick to it, I think I can get there. =)

  • Hi -- Sherry, 08:51:01 06/26/02 Wed
Did pretty well yesterday. Worked out, ate little. (not that that is good), today scale is back down to my low point.

Scales bounce around so much, that I really like the weekly weight averaging thing. If anyone hasn't tried it, I urge you to give it a go. Weigh every day, (add the weights and divide by the number of days weighed) and average your weight for the week.

Since the beginning of June I have been doing this and recording the results in the Flocers database. First week of June my average was 229.85, second week 228.4 third week 227.2, this week so far 226.2

Shows a consistent drop of about a pound a week. Sure I would love it to be more, but it is better than looking at that bouncing scale and trying to figure out how much I really weigh.

  • No cheat and workout -- Sherry, 09:44:31 06/25/02 Tue
Ok today I'm back on track. No cheating for three (or should I make it four?) days. Saturday is the last weigh in for the month, so if I don't cheat for four days maybe just maybe I will hit my new goal by Saturday...

Anyway worked out again this morning, 2 sets each of 70 pounds on the pull down, one at 20 reps, one at 15. The underhand in front of my head one is easier for some reason, so I do 20 reps on it.

2 sets of leg lifts at 50 pounds, 15 reps. 1 set of bench press at 40 pounds, one at 50, and one using the free weights lying on my back at 45 pounds set of 10.

I didn't do the dead lift today, for some reason it seems to me that I have been doing that one wrong all this time, and that is probably why it doesn't get any easier. I'm thinking it is supposed to be done from a squatting start, and then pushing up above your head, doing it from a sitting position just doesn't feel right.

Did my ab work out, and did some sets for lower ab before I got up this am.

My husband says I'm losing a lot of weight, he pointed out today that I actually have RIBS! I guess they are coming out of hiding from under all that fat that used to be there.

Wow! I didn't know I had ribs. LOL

I figured out a disadvantage to losing weight though. I don't have as much padding under my underwire bras anymore, and sometime they dig in. Hmmm, what is the solution to that?

It feels really good to feel my body changing. I'm not counting on the scale as much to tell me what is happening. It is still nice to see a new low, but I don't think it shows as true of a picture of things as I would like.

The weekly weight averaging thing is helping me stay encouraged too. I've been recording it for several weeks now and even though my weight fluxuates from day to day, the overall average is consistently going downward.

So who is joining us for a LAST DITCH push to take off some extra pounds before June ends? We have four more days to weigh in. Who wants to see a NEW low? Join us in this last no cheat challenge for June.

  • Diet boredom? No way! -- Max, 09:10:59 06/25/02 Tue
    Hi all

Down 5 lbs at the end of week 1, which for me is pretty good because I'm a slow loser. 20lbs to go.

The last time I did Atkins, I quit because I got sick of eating the same thing all the time.

This time I gave it some thought beforehand and have been experimenting with the following:

    - combining meats ..this provides different textures & flavors which can be quite good. So I might do a baked chicken with steamed fish, chicken & beef, roast chicken with fried chicken...

    - Frankfurters ..does anyone know how many carbs are in a franfurter? I find that they are a good choice for combining with other meats, they have a nice texture and can be prepared in a number of ways (my favorite..microwaved).

    - Tuna .. I've discovered that I really like tuna, so I have been having fun, tuna omelettes, tuna salad, spicy tuna, tuna in cream cheese...

    - Eggs .. the old mainstay. Remember each omelette is a different creation so have fun with the fillings. Ham, tuna, vegetables, sardines, corned beef, cheese...
Here's an interesting egg recipe a frient taught me ...
boil an egg. In a saucepan melt some butter, add some onions and some cubed cheese. Cube the eggs and mix it into the cheese mixture..delicious!

    - Tofu .. i'm thinking of experimenting with tofu. Tofu salad, scrambled tofu, tofu custard, tofu casserole (now all I need to do is figure out how to make custard and a casserole)

For treats I find that peanut butter is a godsend. One teaspoon of the extra chunky kind is about 2 grams carbs.
Last night I discovered cream cheese sweetened with splenda. And whipped cream, which angel came up with that?

The suggestions you guys made to my last post with recipes and stuff sound so good I can't wait to try them.

And all this from a woman who cooks 3 - 4 times a YEAR! If I can do this, so can you. Get creative and have fun.

Hoping you're all losers this week.

  • Workout -- Sherry, 09:29:49 06/23/02 Sun
Well this morning everything felt too light. My first set of overhead pull downs was done at 60 pounds, and it just didn't do anything, so I had to increase the weight to 70. That I could feel. So I did fewer sets at more weight, and felt like it was working.

The Ab crunch machine I just bought is odd, it feels like there is a rocking motion you can do on it at the higher level which really works the upper abs. If I crunch all the way down to the full range of motion I don't feel anything, so I'm just using little motions on it right now. I've read that "full situps" where you lay on your back and sit all the way up, allow your body to rest once you get past a certain point and aren't as effective as ab crunches, so maybe it is the same principle.

Anyway I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend, and living low carb. Tomorrow is Monday a good time to start back on if you haven't been.

I took the day off yesterday but will be back on track today.

  • Low carb ice cream -- Beth, 10:32:05 06/22/02 Sat
Hey all --- I read this message board every day, I guess you could say I am addicted. It is the first thing I look at when I get on the computer. Funny thing is, I don't do low carb anymore, it just wasn't for me. But I have family members on it, and I totally support this WOE. I have posted once or twice before in the distant past, but the reason I am posting this time is to share something I saw on our local news channel yesterday. I live in the East Texas area near Tyler. The news said that a place right here in East Texas is making LoCarb ice cream and selling it at Brookshires stores. The name of it right now is LoCarb Ice Cream. They are in the process of going national right now, and they are changing the name to LeCarb Ice Cream. They have many flavors and the carb count is 3 grams per serving and it is sweetened with splenda. I am not sure how big a serving is. I did try some the other day and I give it an A+. I don't have the package as it wasn't mine, it was my Dad's. I normally do not like anything that is made for low carb like bars or shakes or mousse mixes. In my humble opinion, they all suck, and I have tried a lot of them. Anyway, this tasted just like the real thing to me! Just thought you might want to keep an eye out for this. I do realize you can make your own ice cream fairly easily, but they have a wide range of flavors, and if you need a super quick fix, this might just be it. This tasted better to me than any of the low carb ice cream I made myself. Maybe just because it felt almost like cheating eating it right out of the carton! Well good luck, and Sherry - so nice to see you having success! (I told you I read every day!) You all give me support in my WOE even though at this time it is not low carb! And BTW, I have no stock in this ice cream company at all. I just thought you might like to hear about it!

    Beth

  • Hoping the scale shows me some good results tomorrow -- Kel, 07:16:41 06/21/02 Fri
Well Katie are ya ready? I think I am. Tomorrow is weigh-in day for us!

I FEEL thinner lately, and I'm noticing that my clothes are baggier than usual, but I haven't gone to my smaller size uniform pants yet because I still imagine they would be too tight. I hate having panty-line out there.

Gonna try and clean up the house, etc. today on my day off; keep myself busy so I dont have as much of an urge to cheat and I will stay on plan. This is the third day of the third No Cheat Challenge (3 day).. who else plans to continue? I've signed on for six days this time, and this is the third day of those six. I'm feeling pretty positive about that. It's generally getting easier to stay on plan. Although yesterday, the receptionist asked if I wanted a candy as she handed me the candy jar with Hersheys Miniatures in there. I said, "no thank you, I better not." Then she said, "are you sure cuz these are the pretty little red, white & blue ones I just bought see?" Now, I don't know what in the heck difference that made to my mind, but I ate one. Dangit! But, it was only one, so I should still be okay. Don't you guys hate people who are able to do that to you? Grrrr!

  • I've been reading the posts -- Katie, 07:04:11 06/22/02 Sat
I've been reading over some of the more recent posts, and as always, I'm amazed at the amount of support that you all give out on a daily (and sometimes hourly) basis.

I must admit that I do check out a couple of other bulletin boards when time permits, and so often if someone isn't doing the same plan or doing it exactly the same way as someone else a flame war breaks out. I'm so glad that I've found this board where there is just constant support and acceptance that everyone is going to do the version that works for them.

  • Grrr -- Sherry, 09:10:46 06/20/02 Thu
Scales! Can't they be annoying? It amazes me how I can go practically without food, and the darn thing won't move.

I guess I'm going to have to go back the other direction and start eating a LOT again and see if I can get the scale to move then.

    (This ambivalence is killing me).

Hard to believe June is down to only 10 more days. Where has the month gone?

Work has been stressful lately. I feel like there is so much more I should be able to accomplish, and I haven't done so. Just finding paperwork, and learning my way around is taking a lot of time up. Plus this guy who was hired to help me, isn't much help. I feel like he is as lost as I am.

I've been thinking, and I want all of your opinion on this. Have any of you experienced a situation where you find that you have preconceived ideas about something? Where for instance you tell yourself "I can't lose weight this part of the month?" or "I should be gaining weight right now due to this or that?

When you get these ideas (whether based on reality or not) do you find they seem to become self fulfilling prophesies? Like your efforts change and so they become true?

My experience lately has been that a certain part of the month I experience cravings that are hard to control, because the month is getting late I keep expecting to experience that again soon. It isn't happening, but I keep anticipating it, and so now I'm wondering if I won't make it happen just by expecting it?

I'm thinking I should change my thinking and expect something different... maybe that will make a difference? What do you all think?

  • Hi everyone -- Sherry, 09:03:43 06/19/02 Wed
Well I took your suggestion Dawn, and took my measurements again this morning. Some areas haven't changed, and I'm only measuring at certain key points, but since the end of May I have lost 5 and 3/16 inches.

The scale is still being a bit of a butthead, but my average weight for the week is still a bit down from normal so I'll use that for my encouragement. (That weekly weight averaging thing helps out when otherwise you might get discouraged).

I think because of the heat (and maybe the weight lifting), I'm hanging on to some excess water. Ankles were swollen last night, and the night before.

I deviated a bit yesterday, (although I wouldn't exactly call it a cheat) and ate 2 corn tortillas at lunchtime. So my carb count total yesterday may have been a little higher than normal, but I try and keep this body of mine guessing a little, so I'm not calling it a cheat, it was a planned decision.

Still not something I would do every day and feel like I could get away with it. I think the no cheat challenges (and keeping them short) is helping me a lot. I am getting to that part of the month where cheating is starting to look good, so I'm not sure how long I can keep this up, but the longer the stronger the better.

Going downstairs now to do my workout. Then it is off to work for me.

  • This morning -- Sherry, 18:41:30 06/20/02 Thu
I put on my stretchy pants. I haven't been wearing them lately, I've mostly been wearing new clothes, my new shorts. But anyway these are the pants that always fit like a glove and on my fat days almost didn't fit.

Today they were too lose. I could tell right away, that something was different. When I looked in the mirror, I couldn't believe my eyes. They looked GOOD. (For once my boobs were bigger than my belly!)

Hey how great is that? Scale measured at 227 again today. (not that I care much what IT has to say). It just feels SO good to be winning this war.

  • Having a hard time staying positive today -- Kel, 18:17:24 06/19/02 Wed
Hi folks, I'm having a hard time staying upbeat and positive today. Sometimes I get like this. The problem with it is that it makes me want to eat bad foods for the comfort of it; for avoidance of what might really be bothering me.

Knowing this helps a little, but doesn't stop the feeling of I want something bad. It's almost like my body is trying to sabotage itself by craving sugar and processed carbs. The little addictive voice inside me is trying to convince me why I should cheat. Does this ever happen to anyone else? (No, I don't actually HEAR the voices okay lol).

Anyway, I allowed myself a few extra carbs at dinner tonight, but nothing that I would consider a cheat. No refined carbs or sugar at all. I'm still on track, but today it's been difficult. Just had to get that off my mind; thanks for listening =)
