If you know what triggers there are, maybe the thing to do is to try and avoid the triggers. I know that is hard to do, we all have times when we feel sad, left out, or lonely.

Believe it or not there are mental games you can play with yourself. They are harder to do when you are tired, but if you make sure you get enough rest, and the right types of food, it can become easier to "change your thinking".

I know this sounds simplistic, and for years I would have argued with anyone who tried to tell me this, but WE can control our own thought processes. We can Change our moods, simply by changing our thoughts.

When you start to think that a friend has ignored you or hurt your feelings in some way, for instance, you can change that thought. "No she doesn't dislike me, she wasn't trying to be mean, she is just a little wrapped up in her own life right now and wasn't thinking about me at all." And then you can change the negative thoughts into something positive. "I'll do something nice for her" or yourself, "Maybe she just needs a friend to remind her how much she means to me" or something along that line.

The reality is that we can start thinking negative thoughts and allow ourselves to spiral into a very sad and depressed state, or we can tell ourselves to "CANCEL" that thought and explain things to ourselves in a more balanced way.

When we allow our minds to spiral downward into those negative areas, our bodies actually start producing certain chemicals that make it harder and harder to "cheer up". That is when we start reaching for those bad foods. If we stop the negative thoughts before they really get started, and replace them with more positive ones, we can keep the chemical reactions within our bodies good ones, keep our sunny dispositions, and NOT get so out of control with stress eating.

I struggle a lot with downer moods, and there are times when you just want to wallow in the bad stuff, but it is deadly dangerous to do that for very long. So when I can catch myself heading in that negative direction thought-wise, I try and turn it around as quickly as I can. Wait too long and it is nearly impossible to do.

Even worrying or feeling bad about your weight or your many failures at dieting can do this. It is always best to approach something new with a positive "THIS is going to work" attitude.

Anyway welcome to low carb. Emotions aside, THIS is going to work for you! Low carb is the healthiest, easiest way to lose weight that there is. It is made harder by the kinds of emotions we were talking about, the ones that make you feel negative and make you feel sorry for yourself. Those things really get in the way of healthy eating.

But the diet itself? It is wonderful. You are going to like it.
