Protein Power explains that feeling icky feeling that we all have had during the first two or three days. He says that our bodies manufacture all sorts of enzymes. The enzymes your body has produced to deal with carbs are all running around your system right now with nothing to do.

In a few days your body will adjust and start producing the right enzymes for dealing with protein and not for carbs, and you will start to feel really good.

Some people explain it as sugar withdrawal and that can happen too. For me, I didn't feel much of anything before the middle of the second week when I first started induction, but then I felt a little like I had the flu, got cold, couldn't get warm without crawling under the blankets.

It felt a little like I used to feel when I would fast.

Don't worry though, as your body adjusts to your new way of life, you will begin to feel sort of euphoric, better and better in the energy levels. You will know it if you start eating carbs again, your energy levels go down, you get a little depressed, sometimes if you really binge out on carbs after getting used to low carb you actually feel sick to your stomach.

I ruined last year's anniversary by eating a lot of things I shouldn't after having been good for a long time, I ate too much bread and my body just couldn't handle it after so long of not eating that way.

Anyway, regarding estrogen levels. I have never heard that they go up with this WOL. I do know that what I felt were one of the benefits of eating this way is that my monthly cycle actually became lighter. I have no proof, but I believe that in my case what may have happened is that I have fibroids, but low carbing made them shrink.

I can't say for sure this is what happened it is just my gut feeling. Fibroid tumors are pretty prominent in my family, my mother had a hysterectomy because of them as did one of my sisters. My other sister had an operation to remove just the tumors. When I was pregnant with my youngest son, a doctor said he had seen one on the ultrasound, and I know that my periods were getting heavier and heavier (it seemed) each month when I was eating normally. One of the first things I noticed after starting this diet is that things were better, lighter, less intense. I believe the diet helped shrink the tumors (or something) and I may be able to avoid my female relative's fate because of the diet.

I can't remember where I read it, but I think that I based this idea on something I read regarding low carb and tumors, I don't think I just invented the idea out of my head, but I could have.

Anyway I think you will find yourself pleasantly surprised in all aspects of health from being on the diet after you have had a chance to get used to it.

You don't have to eat dairy, eat meat, fish, green veggys.
Depending on the plan you are following you can have some berries or other low carb fruits.

If you say you are lactose intolerant, Lactose is milk sugar. You shouldn't be drinking milk right now anyway, cream, cheese, sour cream or butter are ok, but avoid whole or skim or low fat milk. Too much milk sugar is the same as other types of sugar too high in carbs.
