Subject: Taking measurements
In reply to: Lynne 's message, "clothes haven't changed, I have been watching. Actually was planning to take my measurements the other day, but could not find a tape measure." on 06:57:09 08/21/02 Wed

When I first took my measurements I didn't have a tape measure. (I still don't). Instead what I did was to take a piece of drywall tape (which is just a long thick roll of paper) and took my measurements marking on the tape where each measuring point reached to.

Then I took a metal tape measure and measured those points. In a way it is better because at the time I wasn't tempted to try and squeeze it tighter to reach any particular number. Also I've been able to keep track of my progress on that same long piece of paper for two years now.

I just made a mark and wrote H (for hips) W (for waist) etc.

Since then I've written H and the date next to it. Then I can compare my original hip size (the one with no date other than the one on the back of the paper) with the most recent dates.

Drywall tape is available at most hardware stores if you want to try it. I just happened to have some because I've been putting up walls in my basement.

It is great for seeing progress that otherwise doesn't seem to happen (in my case). I have lost a lot of inches (23.5) over the last two years, but only 9 pounds (7 of which are back at this moment). Two years, two pounds? It is enough to make you want to give up. Except those 23 inches are real, and I don't want them back.
