Subject: I've read the book

I actually read "The Sugar Blues" about 4 years ago. It's pretty scary stuff. I'll admit that it's not the best thing on earth for you, but it's not as bad as addiction to a narcotic substance.

I rarely allow my son to have sugar because he is at high-risk for developing diabetes. I don't however ban it altogether. I'm leery of making any food completely off-limits for fear that he'll just go crazy on it when he's old enough that I can't control his meals.

I've not yet seen anyone die instantaneously of sugar ingestion. Usually people go into shock, comas, and then die. That's what I fear for myself. I have to very carefully balance the sugar that I allow myself with protein and fat to keep from passing out from the insulin onslaught.

I actually worry a lot more about my nicotine addiction than I do about sugar addiction. I can control and regulate my sugar intake a lot more readily than my nicotine intake.
