I don't know why that would happen. Hair changing from curly to straight, and becoming thinner. How very strange. I know that when I was much younger I used to fast a lot, maybe for 3 days straight. I had (and have) very thick curly hair too. I noticed that a couple of times back then I would get a lot of hair loss. My hair never got thin because I have so much of it, but I could reach up and run my fingers through it and handfulls would come away in my hand.

Fasting seems to have a similar effect to being in ketosis through low carb, but I'm not sure if my "effect" was the same as yours.

I have heard of people on low carb losing hair, but what you're talking about sounds different. When my hair came out like it did, my mother started giving me a bunch of the B complex vitamins. I don't know if that is what stopped it or if it just stopped on its own.

I think I've had hair loss a couple of times like that in my life. Never really could pinpoint why, but stress might be a factor. The B complex vitamins combat stress. You might try that, but then you said you tried vitamins. So I really don't know.

  • Hair is virtually all protein. Have you been eating at least 90 grams of protein a day while on the diet? If not, the body may be getting it where it can. (NT) -- Daddy Bill, 10:09:46 09/04/02 Wed
