Subject: Drive-by Fruiting!

Since I have been on the low-carb WOL, I have volunteered for the Red Cross. The Red Cross is notorious for providing free meals and snacks for volunteers, which includes doughnuts and other high-carb foods.

They also provide fruit such as apples, bananas, etc. The first time, I was still on my way to my goal and reluctant to eat even the apples, which have 20 + carbs, each, but I did eat one, and stayed on low-carb foods at mealtime. To my astonishment, the next morning I had lost a pound!

This happened for three straight days and I lost a little each day. I though this might be a fluke, but it works for me almost every time.

Though I have stayed away from bananas, which have 30 + carbs each, I have often eaten a 10 - 12 oz apple since then and always lose a little the next day.

I have heard body builders say that they can lose a pound or two by doing the same thing. They theorize that fruit, which are complex carbohydrates, and contain fructose, acts as a catalyst in a person who has been on low-carbs. “It’s like throwing gasoline on a slow-burning fire. The
metabolism gets a kick-start and burns calories, including fat, at a rapid rate for awhile.”

Yesterday, I ate an apple and a peach, along with my usual low-carb meals, and I lost a little this morning. This may be water loss, I know, but the point is, eating these fruits don’t seem to cause a stall, or a gain, and I am at my goal weight of around 180 - (down to 178 this morning).

This may not work for everyone - one case does not make a scientific test, but it might be worth a try. Fruit has a lot of the natural vitamins we may be missing. Few can honestly say fruit is bad for you.

Has anyone else found this to be true for them?
