Ok I went to this website http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/omd?query=gluconic+acid

And I learned that Potassium gluconate is "gluconic acid potassium salts". I looked up gluconic acid and it says that it is an acid made from the oxidation of glucose.

Therefore what you are saying is somewhat true glucose is sugar, but Potassium Gluconate is an acid and a salt. (the acid being made from sugar).

I doubt if it will seriously affect your weight loss, it never has mine, but if you are worried about it, you can get your extra potassium by buying Morton's salt substitute which is potassium chloride (rather than gluconate).

By sprinkling this on your food you will taste it and not be likely to take too much. Usually potassium pills are dispensed in such small quantities (3% of the RDA) that even if you took 3 or more per day, you probably wouldn't be poisoning yourself. (Especially since you lose so much potassium on low carb).

But I think the other thing is that no one really knows how much potassium a person needs, so the makers of it as a supplement err on the side of caution, since too much can be very dangerous, possibly fatal.

For me, I feel it in my muscles they ache a little when I lose too much potassium, and I can even get leg cramps when lying in bed. Get ONE of those "charley horses" and you will never want another.
