Hi, Katie -

Most home scales are relatively accurate, but seldom absolute. (They may be off a pound or two, but they will read very nearly the same every day if the weight is the same.)

What happens with us humans is that the amount of water we have in us when we weigh ourselves determines part of the fluctuation in our weight. (Each cup (8oz.) of water weighs a half-pound.)

If we weigh first thing in the morning, we will have breathed out a pound or so of water vapor, perspired out a little more, and lost all that water going to the bathroom. (Obviously if you drink water at night you will make up some of the loss.)

If you are on diuretics you will usually lose more water weight; if you're retaining, then you'll weigh more. This is part of the reason some will say you shouldn't weigh but once a week or not at all. The inches lost is a more accurate measure of success, or better yet, when your clothes get that lose feel, you’ll know you are losing fat.

Also, if you are doing exercises that tend to build your muscles, you may gain a bit although you may be losing fat. (Muscle weighs more than fat and looks a lot better!)

Don't worry about the daily "bounce," and be sure to drink plenty of water. In short, stay with low-carb and you will lose the fat!
