You're just -askin'- for it, ain't ya? *amused look* It's a long story. Five-novels-long. So I'll sum up.

The good guys = the inhabitants of Lavana and the Tri-System.

The bad guys = what lived beneath the earth and what was enslaved by or commanded by that. Equitor being the mastermind. He built up armies in the caverns beneath the earth and began systematically killing off Lavanians. He recruited a few select species - almost all of them bipedal - and thus gave bipeds their bad rep on Lavana. One or two quadrupedal races joined him, but they joined as mercs, not converts.

How it got started = Equitor showed up. No one knows from where, or why. He dug himself a hole and started building armies to wipe the sentient life from the Tri-System and rule an empire of his own minions. He was the only one of his kind - never before and never since has anyone seen a creature like him. Some say he was hunting the Phoenix of the Flame (a mythological entity that created the world - total superstition, but some believe in it). Some say he was sentenced to Lavana by an annoyed Creator to be imprisoned. Some speculate he -was- a Creator, stripped of his power, and thrown down to be consumed by the world. But no one knows.
