thanks , good article.
Too bad someone like Hurley can't be moderated. I sometimes enjoy listening to him but when he gets on attacking people he disagrees with I turn him off. Not that he doesn't have the right to critize,but he reverts to vicious name calling and insults. He shows how difficient he is in articulating himself. Not to mention stuping to the level of some of the very people he critizies.

I think that if you compare HURLEY recently (in the past year or so) and the name-calling thing etc.- it is not as bad. Yeah I did hear him calling some woman a pretty nasty nick-name but I was surprised because I really don't hear it that much on HURLEY'S show anymore. Speaking of HURLEY...it has been mentioned here that his iron-clad contract with WFPG-AM expires in April. If that is true,then what ????? The people who really don't like HARRY for personal reasons, will be satisfied if he disappears, but---HURLEY is a BIG part of LOCAL TALK RADIO. Would it be a good thing for TALK RADIO for HURLEY to not be on the LOCAL AIRWAVES? HARRY may not be perfect but he would be missed. After what happened on JEFF WHITAKER'S show on WOND during the election-I have given up on any slim hope that WOND would hire HURLEY if WFPG canceled HURLEY IN THE MORNING.(but hey-it is RADIO-anything could happen!).....I'm sure the two stations cringe at the thought but to me and some other "switchers" HARRY HURLEY and DON WILLIAMS are my morning TALK team.
....The reason I'm a little worried about HURLEY IN THE MORNING right now is that-(ONE)-> April,2002 is coming soon,(TWO)->MILLENIUM (WFPG owners)-have the FCC approval for all of the stations they bought last year. AND last but not least- HURLEY'S name used to be listed as Program Director of WFPG-AM on the MILLENIUM website. For some reason they removed that last week.(but did not put up another WFPG-AM pd either)........to be continued?????

And also I believe he is way too condensending to callers who disagree with him. The last caller he had on fri is an example. There is plenty of talent around to replace him. The style of a Jim Bohanon or a Gil Gross is more to my liking. Yes, I know they are national, but are we that devoid of talent around here?

I DON'T THINK HARRY HAS ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT . SJTA BOUGHT ADVERTISEMENT ON WFPG AND HURLEY HAS DISCONTINUED HIS CALLING GORMLEY PUMPKIN HEAD. I THINK A COUPLE HIGH PROFILE REPUBLICANS BOUGHT THE STATION AND NOW MOST OF THE REPUBLICANS NOW GO ON .HARRY COULD GO NATIONAL BUT HE GETS IN HIS OWN WAY. WE NEED TWO TALK SHOWS IN THIS AREA TO KEEP EACH OTHER ON THE BALL.

I'm not advocating he should be a cream puff, I just believe he doesn't have the ability to articulate his point of view when he lets his emotions overcome. Thats a weakness he shows time and again. The way he has insulted Whelan,whom I'm not a supporter of,in particular proved that.When he first came on the air several years ago I enjoyed him alot, he asked tough questions and was provocative, simulated thought.Now,in the morning, I don't need to start my day listening to such an angry, bitter man. I'll have to disagree with you, I think he hasn't changed much at all with the vicious attacks. What I'm saying is its not his message but the way he delivers it that turns my stomach. WFPG can let him go as far as I am concerned. TOO much negativity for me.

Well, I just turned on the radio in the middle of an argument between Hurley and a woman named Georgina. It was very heated, but Georgina stayed civil while it wasn't long before Hurley called her and her group (a union?) a clown, a freak show and a band of bozos. She didn't resort to name calling. It seems to be what he resorts to when he is losing an argument. I turned the channel because he was getting too mean.

I would say JIMBO is another host who I think has toned his attitude a little. BOHANNON still doesn't give his callers a chance to explain what they are talking about but at least he doesn't treat them like they are so inferior like he used to.......

You don't have to post this,but this being a local talk radio forum and radio hosts and what they discuss being the primary focus, I'm bewildered as to why you won't let an obviously abusive talk show host not be criticized. You may think the thread was too long but also look at how many people agreed and responded at this guy's tact.
You may be a supporter of his ,but then you are just excusing his behavior. You may be worried about his feelings being hurt,his job or his family. He is the one who chose his profession and he uses it now as a bully pulpit to be extremely cruel. What about the people he calls idiots , bozos ,freaks and much worse. Yesterday he said he wouldn't let a guy debate him in his studio cause his " bald head shining would make me blind". He can't take what he gives out and from what I've read here he was treated more fairly by his critics than he would EVER treat them. IMO, he is the most abusive, uncivil, impartial man I have ever heard on the radio and I've been a fan of the talk radio format for years, including other states I've lived in being a military vet. Does hurly have a right to his opinion? yer darn right. But he is also responsible for how he acts.Including if people want to assail him on it. I guess you just can't do that here.
