Date Posted: Sunday, April 20, 01:24:22am In reply to: John Callon 's message, "Drivel" on Monday, April 07, 01:09:04am there are a lot of terms used today that originate from nauticle terms.right to the bitter end is in fact the last link fastened to the ships anchor cable locker/or if you like the first.hard lines is a cracker that not a lot of people know i dont think you can google it hence hector the dope not knowing?it actually refers to frozen rigging aboard a ship.if a seaman has to go aloft to work in or out of port.he has to work with hard lines {not schoolkid homework } i always remember going aloft in hamburg aboard a federal boat the jumbo or heavy lifting gear had to be broken out .weather bloody awfull freezing cold .the deck crew where asked for a volenteer i didnt volenteer but the bosun thought i might be the best for the job.all the ropes where deemed as hard lines {frozen rigging} as the bosun said be very carefull.it is something that has stuck with me for years.suprised know other deck crew didnt or wouldnt pick up on it regards all {terry scouse}hector in davy joneses locker where he belongs.
