Date Posted: Sunday, March 16, 04:47:07pm In reply to: syd Young 's message, "Most boring port" on Sunday, March 16, 01:02:46pm Syd Chefoo in northern china near the manchurian border took some beating. Nothing there except a freezing windswept barn (this was 1955) on the quay where they sold litre bottles of plonk that had a kick like a mule and were covered in straw casings. These came in useful when some body started a fire in the barn as it was so cold and we used them as fuel. Shortly after the fire started we were 'escorted' back to the ship By a group of heavily armed militia who were anything but inscrutable. cheers tony [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
