Date Posted: Wednesday, April 23, 10:01:05am In reply to: Tony Cooke 's message, "nostalgia" on Tuesday, April 22, 06:22:09pm Hi Tony I sailed in Tankers for ten mostly happy years 68/78 and in that time we had our fair share of blackouts, fires either at sea or alongside, boiler explosions, running aground and sadly some fatal incidents. It did not seem to bother me too much at the time, perhaps a few sleepless nights but when I came ashore I started to have the most vivid ship burning and sinking nightmares. My Wife would find me standing outside our house in the middle of the night with a little daughter (still asleep) under each arm and my eldest standing by my side rubbing her eyes, apparently when woken I would just go back to bed still half asleep having saved the kids from a sinking burning ship and go fast asleep quickly! much to the annoyance of the Wife. This lasted for a quite a few years and I am better now but one thing has always puzzled me that in all my dreams I never rescued the Wife!
