Hamish, as far as whether the rocks on both islands are similar is unknown to me. They sure shake a lot and provide me with a good living, as I assess the damage the earthquakes cause. These quakes, as well as natural disasters like tsunamis (rare), volcanic activity, thermal activity, flood and storm (land only) and landslips are covered under an Act of Parliament here in NZ due to the fact we get a lot of this type of thing.I am also ex Bank Line (Teviot, Inver and Mara)
