  - Re: In case all of you bashing on Miss N.O pageant didn't notice-if you were even there; the pgt started late b/c of #1 debbie greene (former director) was running late due to uncontrollable circumstances- and shelly wanted to give her that respect and some of the other judges late getting ready too..Secondly, I think the opening was great, the fashion show was good (which was nice compared to other prlims been to)..Sherry Strothers (emcee) is an incredible speaker/emcee..however, girls dropped out/added at last minute , and numbers changed and many felt she adjusted well to last minute changes this is part of the pgt industry- in and out and change and reorganize.it happens everytime. You can be organized as can be, but things happen at last minute. Kudos to Shelly- Many of us felt it was much better than any other prelim seen over years.     - Yes DG was late, I understand waiting for her, but say that so folks are not wondering what was happening. Not to mention, there is no reason your other judges should be running late. As a pageant director you don't let your judges run late, you tell them to be ready and in their seats 15 mins before your start time, they are working for you, not you for them and they should be respectful of your contestants and your pageant or they should not be your judges. The pageant was way too long and no DG and MH don't have long pageants. In fact I don't recall that they have any breaks, they just run and get the pageants over with in a timely manner. While the style show is nice and it is great to have interview count for 50%, if you want to have a pageant where the winners do well at USA then run your pageant like the state pageant.       - Great face as well, but was way over tanned and is still way out of shape. I am not one to link super skiny, specifically on a teen, but she has at least 10 solid pounds of baby weight to lose and should not have taken the crown in my opinion. I do think that she stands out and has the "it" factor. She will be top 5 next year. Nothing against her, just she did not win the stage portion of the pageant for sure. So she must have beat everyone else by at least 15 points in interivew b/c she would have been down by about 25 on stage last night with a normal judging panel -- Nothing against her, she is a great competitor and I am happy for her, 09:02:29 11/24/08 Mon

        I actually think that HR was mistreated this weekend. She was not treated like an outgoing queen qho has made apperances and promoted her director's pageant. I think she should have been involved more in the pageant and that she did her best given the situation.   - I will gladly give you my thoughts, but I have to say that I find it odd that No Name who hates HR likes RB, I would watch how much negative you say about one person when you are asking for honest thoughts about another. RB needs refining. She has a pretty face but does not have control of the stage like she needs to if she wants to be a serious competitor. I remember that her body needed work in swimwear and her posture as well.       - The Ms was rt even though I'd flip the alternates. Mrs WAY OFF. Olivia should have won, if not then Carla, Winner seems nice & it is not her fault that Shelly does not get good judges. Shelly's pageants are just that a Shelly Pageant. One can only assume the judges are going to know more than one contestant, have judged for Shelly at least twice before, maybe recruited a contestant, have been a director for a contestant or trained a contestant. The pageants will run long, be conducted in a very unprofessional manner and rarely turn out the way you would think they should. However this is something that is pretty well known & expected. Shelly is a nice person, she will do a bunch to help the contestants. You can call and ask for a discount, help finding attire, coaching, extra time to get your money in, etc. She is the only director with a Ms catagory for "big" titles so she will always get some competitors. -- She has all the good names, too bad DG sold NO to her and not SR or MH, 11:22:50 11/24/08 Mon

        I am a director and would like to give some sound advice, Never Judge a Judge. You NEVER know when they will judge you again. Instead of complaining that the judge is too hard, you might stop and think I was ill prepared for that Interview. Here I am in the 12th grade and only have the vocabulary of a 5th grader. Maybe my diction is poor. hmmm. Instead of being disrespectful and rude about this man, think about how you could Improve yourself. Obviously there were 3 contestants that didn't consider his questions hard, they were the winners.         For me, at first I thought the same thing but after thinking about it I realized that was probably a tactic he had to see if we could handle the pressure. He gave a few factsusing a huge vocabulary range on a topic and then asked the easy question. Pretty clever to me.         He pretty much dominated the interview in my case, and gave a long statement then would ask a question almost that had nothing to do with what he said. It was like he was trying to impress me instead of me trying to impress them -- A little weided out, 17:35:21 11/27/08 Thu
        
        That is an old old judges technique to gave a statement and then as a question that didn't have anything to do with the first statement.         There are some things that many people don't realize, Mr. Walters didn't dominate in Interviews. He was the head judge. As head judge It was his responsability to greet the contestant, ask them to have a seat, ask the first question, then If It got back around to his turn ask another question and finally when time was called, It was his responsability to tell the contestant that their time is up and before she leaves ask If there is anything that she would like to tell them before she goes. when the contestant finishes speaking, It is once again his responsability to thank her and wish her well in the pageant. -- Old Veteran Judge- Mr Walters is tough be he has been schooled the correct way and does the job of judging the right way., 20:42:02 11/27/08 Thu

        Ummm, I am not sure when the last time you did a festival pageant but they don't ask those kinds of questions. I think that people were upset that the Head judge, who only if you work for the pageant would you know he was the head judge, had been one of the contestant's directors in the past. That would be like Debbie Greene judging AL or Millie Harris judging Faith Good. So people are upset with the judges who cares, it is over with, if people want to fuss, let them. If they are not ready for state then they are not ready for state. You are not going to make everyone happy, but directors NEED to do their best at not asking judges who are too close to contestants to judge. -- That's all I am saying, 15:05:35 12/02/08 Tue
        
        I tell you I did La Honey Bee Festival Pageant and I can tell you that a favorite color question was not asked, I have done it twice and several other festival pageants and I can tell you that La Honeybee was the hardest interview I have ever done.         That is a festival banner and most are that size. They are designed so you can read the name of the festival from far away since the queen is there to promote her festival. I happen to think the banners are nice, but each to their own. And as far as your comment about what they pick as their queen, Festival pageants are not about the external beauty but the willingness to promote a festival. BUT, they are not competing for Miss LA USA, they competed to represent an industry, town, non-profit organization, etc. They travel, make appearances, and are involved in their & their festival's communities. - This pageant is directed by a very wonderful person and the civic center it helps support is vital in hurricane season. If you have the funds to do LA USA without having a prelim pay for it and the interest to do a little traveling then this is a great festival to compete for. - I did go and look....I saw our Miss Louisiana at Miss North Carolina looking kinda rough, I also saw our Miss Louisiana at Miss South Carolina looking rather old compared to the new Miss North Carolina. AND looking pretty old next to the new Miss South Carolina. Yes, Louisiana had more competition but look at what we ended up with. (NT) -- the oldest looking contestant of them all. GOOD directors want girls who will do well in the USA system, correct? Unfortunately for Shelly, this is not the case. A director who chooses to count judging for 50% of scoring obviously will not get satisfying results at state. Sending their girls to a pageant where INTERVIEW only counts to get to the TOP 15 does not prepare them for the state pageant. Face it, THE USA SYSTEM is based solely on physical appearance whereas interview is important only on finals morning. I am already anxious to see next years LA USA pageant, my personal opinion is that the teens to beat are Kristen G, Ashley M , and perhaps Ashton V. Whitney Moss as well. In the Miss, I adore Merrill, and she will do GREAT at LA USA. I also hope to see Corrinn and Lyndsay M.

- I think Brianna W will be a Teen in the T5 next year if she gets some direction. She was a pleasent surprise in the T10 this year and I think with a little direction she will be right up there.   - If she returns I believe Alexandra Lewis will be very hard to beat.. A Beautiful, inteligent Miss USA caliber contestant. I think that Corrin and Merril will repeat in top 5 too. I think Whittle was a bit of luck and thank goodness Minchew is out of the scene. I say 2 newer faces break the 5. -- Way too early to tell but I'd go with Edwards, Soileau and maybe even Murray. - I was under the impression that interview was worth the same value as swimsuit and evening gown at Miss Louisiana. As a former pageant director, I believe it is the director's discression as to how much value each category is worth. If she wants interview to be 50%, she has the right to do so. And if contestants dont like that scoring system, they do not have to compete in her pageant. To say Jamie Roddy will not do well at Miss Louisiana is a bit naive. I've been fortunate to judge her before and I think she has a solid interview. Her swimsuit body is quite good at this time. I will say that I sometimes find her evening gowns a little off the mark though. But that is subjective and easy to remedy. Merrill is a great competitor in this system, one of my favorites...   - Russia you are correct that for prelims at LA USA that interview is same as swim & gown but not for finals. The only items that are "scored" on finals night are swimwear &gown, on stage interview & question is not. They tell everyone in orientation, T15 compete in swimwear & the judges use the mention system to select 10 for gown, then 10 do gown & the mention system is used again for selecting the T5. Then the T5 speak, after they have all spoken they are given a final ballot for ranking & when they are doing the spotlight they rank. Interview does not count, except for in the judges mind, on finals night. While you are correct girls can pick the prelim they enter, if directors are going to call themselves a prelim, then they should try to be a much like the state pageant as they can be. Using a different scoring system and not having all of the phases of competition that state has would seem to lend itself to picking a girl who will not do as well at state. -- Jamie will do just fine at state., 15:01:09 12/02/08 Tue
