For a while now, I had been at work till about 9pm every Friday. So this Friday, I decided to come home on time and treat the wife and kids to a movie night. That right there is where our weekend took a dive...LOL! The movie we decided to watch was the new release, "WATCHMEN". A movie from DC Comics, filled with some rather unusual super hero's. If you are thinking about taking your kids to this movie, SKIP IT! Seriously, this is NOT a kids movie. There are some pretty graphic sex scenes and some blue dude walked around nude during the entire movie. Seriously, I did not plan on spending my Friday night watching some blue dudes penis for three hours. The length (no pun intended) of the movie.
And if that wasn't bad enough, we watched the movie at The Carmike, in Edinburg, Texas. Theater management neglected to tell us that the A/C in the theater was broken. And despite complaint after complaint, they did nothing to resolve this issue. So yeah, we sat for three hours in what must have been 100 degree heat. Watching a three hour movie that was about as exciting as watching a cat lick himself clean. By the time we left the theater, we are all soaked in sweat and both my wife and I had headaches. Man, I thought to myself, my weekend can't possibly get any worse, right?...WRONG!!!.....
Let's move on to Saturday. My kids and I decided we would get two of our cars ready to go for a nice drive. We do that once in a while, just to pass the time and spend some quality time together. After working on both our El Camino and our 1980 Trans Am for the better part of the morning, it was finally time to hop in both cars and go for a ride. So, off we went. My son Chris and I jumped in the Elky, while my sons Junior and Abel jumped in the Trans Am. The wife is not really into this, so she stayed back home.
There we were, cruising along on Old Military Hwy, doing about 55mph. I was eating a corn dog and sipping on a cold Dr. Pepper, jamming to some Lynard Skynard from the iPod. I was thinking to myself. Life just does not get better than this. No sooner had I thought that when Chris slams on the brakes and say's, "Dad, something just came off the Trans Am!" I am confused, I have no idea what could have come off the car. The hood was closed, the wheels were tight, and the car is not a t-top car, what could have gone wrong?...Well, here is what went wrong....

You see that little bit of black glue in the second pic? On the windshield rail. Yeah, that is all that was holding the window glass down. Of all the stupid things I have ever seen in my life. That one right there jumped into the top 10. The previous owner glued the window trim to the glass. Then laid the glass down on that little bit of glue. In this pic, you can see the trim and glass shattered all over the side of the road. Luckily the window did not hit anyone behind us.

I was so upset. I could not believe this was happening. First, the theater on Friday. Now this. You know, these cars are not that common anymore. Where the hell am I going to find another window? Well, we have a good lead on one, thanks to my buddy Abel, also a Disco Trans Am owner. Was that it? Nope, it gets even better. Right when the window flew off, the car puked its guts all over the road. Don't know why, but all the water started pouring out of the overflow tank. Hmmm...well, we decided to call the wife. "The owner of the Trans Am"...needless to say, she was not happy at all. But, she agreed to come get us. So, there was nothing left to do but sit there and wait. My son Abel decided to do a photo shoot with the El Camino while we waited. Not bad for a 15 year old kid.....

About 45 minutes later, the wife shows up with plenty of water and some tools for us. In case we needed them. We tried removing the thermostat, but we didn't have the right tools. So we all crossed our fingers, filled up the radiator with water, fired up The Bird and off we went. Back to our home. It was already dinner time and we had plans for the evening. More on that later. So, we are about 10 maybe 15 minutes from home. I am feeling some relief. The Trans Am is not overheating. And it's doing all right. Except for a nagging bumpy feeling in the front end. Don't really know what it is. Never felt this before. My son Abel, riding with me in the Trans Am, tells me, "Dad, it felt that way earlier too." Hmmm....that is weird. I have driven this car to car shows and what not. And I have never felt anything like this. And then it happened.....BOOM!!!!.....

The car went into skid. Smoke started pouring out of the front end and many things went thru my head. Mostly, my brain was trying to figure out what had just happened. Did a ball joint break? Did we hit something? Did we not tighten the lug nuts on the Weld wheels? Something that has happened to me before. Keep in mind, in all my years of racing and driving cars with 15x3.5 front runners, I had never experianced a blow out. So a lot of different things went thru my mind. Check out the skid...LOL! And what was left of the front runner tire. Remember dudes, 165R15 tires are designed for Volkswagon Beetles. They are not ment to be running 150mph down the 1/4 mile in a heavy ass American car. But, if anyone has one they can spare, I will take it off your hands....LOL!

No sooner had we gotten out of the car to inspect the damage, than two of San Juan PD's finest pulled up behind us. Sorry, no pics of the men in blue. They of course asked the usual questions. "What type of car is this?" "Can I see your drivers license?" "Were you all drag racing?" "Who are you?" "Where do you live?" and on and on. They finally decided we didn't mean anyone any harm, except ourselves that is. And off they went to save the world. Well, again, the wife came to the rescue. She went home to bring us a spare tire, jack and lug wrench. And after about 15 minutes more, we were finally home. The wife went and got some Pizza for us at our favorite place, Pizza Patron, definitley a highlight of the day. And we sat down for dinner.

Our night finally ended at Borderfest, in Hidalgo, Texas. One of my all time favorite bands was in town and I was going to see them play for only $12.00. I did not want to miss this. Don Dokken and his crew were scheduled to come on at 10pm. And after about 30 minutes in line to get in, we were finally in. As soon we got got in line, we hear the rumors. Don Dokken was pissed at the promoter. And they were not going to perform. Man, what the hell kind of weekend is this?....LOL! C'mon Don, I have been thru one hell of a day. Come on out and rock for us! Well, after sitting thru a pretty good AC/DC tribute band, called Back In Black, Dokken finally came on stage. Don, fresh from throat surgery, was not able to hit his high notes. But, there he was. About 10 feet from me. Signing some of my favorite tunes. Tunes that got me thru my high school years. So his singing was not that great. Who cares! If I could have, I would have given him a firm handshake and thanked him for bringing this god awful day to an end for me...LOL!....And, for getting me thru some of the hardest times during my teenage years.
Well, that is it for me. Nothing to report today. It started where my weekend ended. At work, counting boxes and preparing my monthly inventory. Getting home at 9pm, like always. So tell me, how was your weekend?

- Wow! Man what a weekend. The El Camino does look good in those shots though, i kinda always wanted to do a shoot like that for my 71' Dodge Dart. Coincidence, this friday after getting out of work i wanted to take my dart to that pre- car show gathering at the dodge dealership. So i get out of work at 5, my girlfriend shows up to help me get the car ready. First, I go to fire up The Poison Dart and nothing. I'm there cranking for like a minute or two. I've been thinking the timing was just a bit off but it would always start. After 2 minutes multiple pumps of fuel, I get the first sound of life by a loud bang.( Good thing i god welded mufflers)It startles me and my girlfriend and she says " im gonna wait somewhere away from your car". I am also just as scared thinking what the hell is up with my baby. I pop the hood to check the coil wire, its on their. -- Daniel Guerrero Jr. ( Poison Dart), 00:50:21 03/09/09 Mon
- . So i jump back in and finally she starts. I pull her out after a quick 30 second warm up to get her washed. Finally, the car is clean at 6:10 and i give the car a once over to make sure she's ready for the road.(Air, rubbing parts under hood, gauges) Everything good then while under the hood i find out the MSD box had been acting up when i touched some of the wires under the hood it would activate and turn off. My suspicions were confirmed when i tesed the wires while my girlfriend cranked the car. It was already 6:20 the gathering would end at 7pm so i decided not to go. But, i figured ide go for a short test drive. That short test drive winded me taking the trip to the gathering. My girlfriend was very supportive but told me to put fuel, I confidently though we should have fuel you know with a 12 gallon fuel cell that looks about half full. -- Daniel Guerrero Jr. ( Poison Dart), 00:53:50 03/09/09 Mon

- If Abel dosen't come through with the rear windshield, Pro55 has one in stock. Call Mikey @ 956-793-6092 -- Pro55, 07:24:46 03/09/09 Mon
- Mark, if you haven't figured out why your tire blew up, it's becasue of that stupid "FRED LOYA" decal you are running on the driver side rear bumper! Putting insurance stickers on your bumpers is so LAME! LMAOff! Good luck on the fix. -- CRelief, 12:35:08 03/09/09 Mon
- Exactly the same thing happened to me with my 8yr old son and that movie. She kept covering his eyes! That was kinda wrong for it being a Marvel comics movie! -- AngelC, 18:26:06 03/09/09 Mon
