All right guy's, I am doing this kinda quick. Here are some pics from Friday night and the picture gallery with close to 200 pics. Also, congratulations to Ruben Ybarra and his crew for their win Friday night in the 5.50 Index. Also, congratulations to Faustino Hernandez and crew. Faustino came in second place and put up a hell of a fight. Faustino even took out Henry Thomae to go into to the final against Ruben Ybarra. Awesome job guy's. Overall, it was an awesome race. There were about 16 entries in the 6.50 Index class. And they were all pretty close to the index. So it made for some awesome races. Stay tuned for video of all the action from this past weekend.

Oh man, my phone was ringing off the hook with people asking for video. Sorry for the wait dudes. But there was just so much video to go thru and edit. It takes some time to get it all done and uploaded. As you all know, the track had been down for a while, so there were a ton of racers out there. So much in fact that we had to break up the track action video into two parts. I think this is the first time I had to do this with the track action video from Friday night. I think my son Chris would have kept shooting too, if it wasn't for the camera going dead on him...LOL! Oh well, here are the video's. The first one has some sweet music tracks. The second one doesn't because, well, it was taking too long to edit..LOL!..Enjoy...

Looks like Henry Thomae is getting ready for the new class race coming up at Edinburg International Racetrack. Step it up, was the name of the game. And Henry has done just that with his new "OVERTAKER" Nova. The new car is lighter, sleeker and of course, more powerfull than last years Chevy II, "BLADE". Henry is know for making a scene, so he went down to his friend and TDR Sponsor, Jamie Rodrigues, for some new flash. Jaime started this new project by tearing the Nova apart and making sure every panel was nice and straight.

Once that was done, they went ahead and sprayed the car with some ultra-bright silver base coat to help the special House Of Kolor "Burple" really stand out. One thing about pictures and the internet is that you cannot get a real good feel for how nice the colors really are. House Of Kolor is the paint choice of some of the most awesome custom rides out there. But paint by alone does not make the show. It takes a talented team to make it all come together. And that's where Jaime Rodriguez Custom Paint & Body Shop comes in.

With all that done, it was now time to spray on the candy. Handling this job was the owner himself, Jaime Rodriguez. Jaime takes great pride in his work and his customers know he will take extra time to get everything just right. The custom color "Burple" is a beautiful color shifting paint that goes from blue to purple, depending on the light hitting the car. During the daytime, the car will be a an awesome shade of blue. But at night, it will sparkle with an awesome purple hue. Here is a pic of the man himself, mixing up the paint and getting ready for business.

Did I mention that Jaime Rodriguez is a CUSTOM paint shop? Yeah, I thought so. Now, check this out. You see how the front end is one solid piece? Well, check out the attention to detail. Most shop will go cheap and use sticker for headlights and such. Not at Jaime Rodriguez Custom Paint & Body. Every detail you see on the front end is actual paint. All carefull hand painted to match OEM parts. Now that is AWESOME!!!...The next time you need some work done, give Jaime Rodriguez Custom Paint & Body a call. Tell them you saw the "OVERTAKER" on the web and you want the same. Henry, keep us updated on this beautiful new ride. I would like to come by and get some shots of it, race ready.

Despite the bad weather on Saturday, we still had some die hard fans show up to the Texas Tops Cruise In, on Saturday. Mike Ramirez made up about half of the show with his awesome classic rides. Driving in the rain and cold weather, Mike, his wife and his son Rollie brought out a beautiful 1965 Pontiac GTO, an awesome 1966 Chevy II and a super cool 4X4 Chevy. Harvey and The Valley Vette Club, didn't let a few rain drops stop them from also bringing out their nice rides. Thanks to all that showed up and we hope the rain and cold stays away from our next gathering. Here are a few pics my son Abel took of the attendees at the show.

Time to clean out the old mail box dudes. I ain't gonna lie. I have some mail in there from last year..LOL! But I have been way busy lately. Well, looks like "The Problem Child" of Ray Espericueta is up for sale. From what I understand, they are giving up match racing and are going bracket racing. We wish them the best with their new race program. This is the perfect time to sell dudes. The income tax returns are in and people got some bling to spend. Here is an awesome deal on a beautiful Chevy II Nova. For more info, give Ray Espericueta a call.

"HOW WAS YOUR WEEKEND?"

Author:
Mod
[Edit]

Date Posted: 23:17:49 03/08/09 Sun

For a while now, I had been at work till about 9pm every Friday. So this Friday, I decided to come home on time and treat the wife and kids to a movie night. That right there is where our weekend took a dive...LOL! The movie we decided to watch was the new release, "WATCHMEN". A movie from DC Comics, filled with some rather unusual super hero's. If you are thinking about taking your kids to this movie, SKIP IT! Seriously, this is NOT a kids movie. There are some pretty graphic sex scenes and some blue dude walked around nude during the entire movie. Seriously, I did not plan on spending my Friday night watching some blue dudes penis for three hours. The length (no pun intended) of the movie.

And if that wasn't bad enough, we watched the movie at The Carmike, in Edinburg, Texas. Theater management neglected to tell us that the A/C in the theater was broken. And despite complaint after complaint, they did nothing to resolve this issue. So yeah, we sat for three hours in what must have been 100 degree heat. Watching a three hour movie that was about as exciting as watching a cat lick himself clean. By the time we left the theater, we are all soaked in sweat and both my wife and I had headaches. Man, I thought to myself, my weekend can't possibly get any worse, right?...WRONG!!!.....

Let's move on to Saturday. My kids and I decided we would get two of our cars ready to go for a nice drive. We do that once in a while, just to pass the time and spend some quality time together. After working on both our El Camino and our 1980 Trans Am for the better part of the morning, it was finally time to hop in both cars and go for a ride. So, off we went. My son Chris and I jumped in the Elky, while my sons Junior and Abel jumped in the Trans Am. The wife is not really into this, so she stayed back home.

There we were, cruising along on Old Military Hwy, doing about 55mph. I was eating a corn dog and sipping on a cold Dr. Pepper, jamming to some Lynard Skynard from the iPod. I was thinking to myself. Life just does not get better than this. No sooner had I thought that when Chris slams on the brakes and say's, "Dad, something just came off the Trans Am!" I am confused, I have no idea what could have come off the car. The hood was closed, the wheels were tight, and the car is not a t-top car, what could have gone wrong?...Well, here is what went wrong....

You see that little bit of black glue in the second pic? On the windshield rail. Yeah, that is all that was holding the window glass down. Of all the stupid things I have ever seen in my life. That one right there jumped into the top 10. The previous owner glued the window trim to the glass. Then laid the glass down on that little bit of glue. In this pic, you can see the trim and glass shattered all over the side of the road. Luckily the window did not hit anyone behind us.

I was so upset. I could not believe this was happening. First, the theater on Friday. Now this. You know, these cars are not that common anymore. Where the hell am I going to find another window? Well, we have a good lead on one, thanks to my buddy Abel, also a Disco Trans Am owner. Was that it? Nope, it gets even better. Right when the window flew off, the car puked its guts all over the road. Don't know why, but all the water started pouring out of the overflow tank. Hmmm...well, we decided to call the wife. "The owner of the Trans Am"...needless to say, she was not happy at all. But, she agreed to come get us. So, there was nothing left to do but sit there and wait. My son Abel decided to do a photo shoot with the El Camino while we waited. Not bad for a 15 year old kid.....

About 45 minutes later, the wife shows up with plenty of water and some tools for us. In case we needed them. We tried removing the thermostat, but we didn't have the right tools. So we all crossed our fingers, filled up the radiator with water, fired up The Bird and off we went. Back to our home. It was already dinner time and we had plans for the evening. More on that later. So, we are about 10 maybe 15 minutes from home. I am feeling some relief. The Trans Am is not overheating. And it's doing all right. Except for a nagging bumpy feeling in the front end. Don't really know what it is. Never felt this before. My son Abel, riding with me in the Trans Am, tells me, "Dad, it felt that way earlier too." Hmmm....that is weird. I have driven this car to car shows and what not. And I have never felt anything like this. And then it happened.....BOOM!!!!.....

The car went into skid. Smoke started pouring out of the front end and many things went thru my head. Mostly, my brain was trying to figure out what had just happened. Did a ball joint break? Did we hit something? Did we not tighten the lug nuts on the Weld wheels? Something that has happened to me before. Keep in mind, in all my years of racing and driving cars with 15x3.5 front runners, I had never experianced a blow out. So a lot of different things went thru my mind. Check out the skid...LOL! And what was left of the front runner tire. Remember dudes, 165R15 tires are designed for Volkswagon Beetles. They are not ment to be running 150mph down the 1/4 mile in a heavy ass American car. But, if anyone has one they can spare, I will take it off your hands....LOL!

No sooner had we gotten out of the car to inspect the damage, than two of San Juan PD's finest pulled up behind us. Sorry, no pics of the men in blue. They of course asked the usual questions. "What type of car is this?" "Can I see your drivers license?" "Were you all drag racing?" "Who are you?" "Where do you live?" and on and on. They finally decided we didn't mean anyone any harm, except ourselves that is. And off they went to save the world. Well, again, the wife came to the rescue. She went home to bring us a spare tire, jack and lug wrench. And after about 15 minutes more, we were finally home. The wife went and got some Pizza for us at our favorite place, Pizza Patron, definitley a highlight of the day. And we sat down for dinner.

Our night finally ended at Borderfest, in Hidalgo, Texas. One of my all time favorite bands was in town and I was going to see them play for only $12.00. I did not want to miss this. Don Dokken and his crew were scheduled to come on at 10pm. And after about 30 minutes in line to get in, we were finally in. As soon we got got in line, we hear the rumors. Don Dokken was pissed at the promoter. And they were not going to perform. Man, what the hell kind of weekend is this?....LOL! C'mon Don, I have been thru one hell of a day. Come on out and rock for us! Well, after sitting thru a pretty good AC/DC tribute band, called Back In Black, Dokken finally came on stage. Don, fresh from throat surgery, was not able to hit his high notes. But, there he was. About 10 feet from me. Signing some of my favorite tunes. Tunes that got me thru my high school years. So his singing was not that great. Who cares! If I could have, I would have given him a firm handshake and thanked him for bringing this god awful day to an end for me...LOL!....And, for getting me thru some of the hardest times during my teenage years.

Well, that is it for me. Nothing to report today. It started where my weekend ended. At work, counting boxes and preparing my monthly inventory. Getting home at 9pm, like always. So tell me, how was your weekend?

-Mark M (The Mod)

I want to thank Deleon Auto's, Joel and Javier Deleon for their awesome hospitality on Saturday. I think everyone will agree that we had a a great time. With the track down, we were all in need of some roaring monsters. And we were not disappointed. I believe we had about 10 cars show up to dyno. Not bad considering the day started out with drizzle and a cold front moving into the Valley. Check out the video below of some of the cars pushing the rollers....

**CLICK ON BANNER FOR VIDEO**

**CLICK ON BANNER FOR VIDEO**

We were looking for the highest HP of the day on Saturday. It was a convertible Fox Stang that first set the world on fire with an outstanding 450hp out of a "STOCK" 306 inch Ford. Hmmm..didn't know 5 Liter Stangs came with 306's stock...LOL! But oh well. And just when the Ford thought it had it in the bag, along came 1320Performance with their sweet C6 LS3 powered Corvette. The Vette sounded nice and smooth, before unleashing all hell and ripping the rollers apart with 550hp and almost 700lb's of torque with the help of a little laughing gas. Awesome job dudes!!!.....

You know, what is ever more cool is I believe both of these cars were out the 1320Performance camp. So, they took both the Ford and the Chevy HP titles. Overall, we had a great time. Deleon Auto Accessories fed everyone that came along. We all enjoyed some awesome chicken and cold drinks. Which made for a cool time. Thanks again to Deleon's & Crew for the good times and we look forward to the next Deleon Auto Accessories Dyno Day.

Didn't get to make it out to EIRT last night. I was on my way home from work around 9:00PM when I got a call from my Uncle. Said the races had been cancelled due to an accident. Said a Corvette lost it and hit Honda in the lane next to him. I hear everyone came out fine. But the track had to cancel the races because of damage to the guardrail. If anyone has some video of the crash or pictures, please send it to me at mod@texasdragracing.com.

Luckily, we did make it out to the track on Wednesday night. The crew managed to snap off well over 100 pics and we got both match races that night. As well as some great track action video footage. Congrats to Noe on his win over Abel's Lightning. Noe is now the new #7 Spot holder. And, since Hugo could not make the call to race Joel Cura, Joel is now the new #8 Spot holder. And we all know what that means. This means Noe is in the way of Joel's move to the top. I see "SAM I AM" has already challenged Noe for the #7 Spot. But I hear Joel is jumping in on this one. Watch out! We are moving everyone up one spot and opening up the #10 spot. We have some awesome races coming up. Well, here is the action from Wednesday night, enjoy...

Wow, can you all believe it? Update pics, finally! Sorry for the delay dudes. But I have been super busy with work. I was in Colorado last week. And I am going to Vegas next week. Along with everything new I am experiancing, it has left little time for the website. So, I am going to get as much done tonight as possible. Or at least get caught up before tomorrow nights Grand Re-Opening of EIRT. With it's all new track surface. You all can bet we will be there in full force. I got a fresh supply of Monster Energy drinks and I am ready to go back to work. Here are a bunch of pics snapped by my buddy Abel. Please check them out and let him know if you like them. It would be nice to get some feedback once in a while.

Dudes, we love shooting new rides. And there was certainly no shortage on this Friday night. We heard there was a Stang down from Corpus call "The Booger". Guess which one it is..LOL! All I got to say is, we already have a Booger down in the RGV. Maybe we can set up a race for the name race?..haha just kidding. Big thanks to all of the Corpus dudes that join us when they can. We really appreciate you dudes coming down and mixing it up with the locals. This time around, my Son, Abel and my buddy Abel, snapped well over 100 pics of the Friday night action. We also have the video of the race between Joel Cura's Booger Stang and John's Blue Monster Stang. As well as the always awesome Track Action video. All right, I'll be back. Let's see if we can get it all up tonight before bedtime.

Challenge for number 6 spot with my S-10. We have been trying to do this race for a long time and it seems like something always happens. Let's have a good clean race.
