Hi all,
sometimes i wish we all lived in the same Gaia's Garden village, how cool would that be. Each with our own cottage craft stuff to sell or our skills used in some way.
It would have to be in wales though...i have always wanted to live there. We would each have our own lovely cottages, far enough away so as not to cramp each other, but close enough for comfort. We would be able to celebrate each season together, and if we wanted to just be alone we would all understand.......everyone needs their space.
Heather removes her rose coloured specs and goes into the kitchen to do her evening dishes.
Big hugs and bright blessings, love heather.xxxxx

Sounds a bit like a retirement village to me!
I am too young and impetuous.
I wouldn't mind visiting though if you ever did manage to all bunch up!
Anyway, I need sleep, tomorow my friends and I are going to woodchester mansion *yes yes the place on most haunted*, well the grounds part anyway, on a wild mandrake hunt!
HURRAH!

I like the idea of a "green" village where people can live close (but not too close) with a communal garden to grow all the food, off grid and eco friendly...It's nice to know others think of the same thing too. I think it is the way of the future, well a sustainable one anyway. The more we share our vision, the more others will dream of it and one day it will happen. It sounds lovely...

There is a place in Wales called Teepee vaslled in llandeilo which is a green valley.
Grow their own food, drink from a spring, no electric, etc etc.
Only 1 car for the whole community, though the guy said in the winter they have to make supermarket trips, but it's a mile to get to the nearest parking for the car, so they bring it all bqack in whyeelbarrows!
It looked cool.

I think in this high tech world people are just wanting the simple life again. I know it's hard work growing your own stuff etc, but such a good feeling to know you made or grew something to share with others. I really feel like something is missing sometimes, trees make me feel better and i love talking to people.
I sometimes feel our connections that we make as people is just not happening any more, we are drifting further apart from our neighbours, friends and general family members. Alot of kids or teens don't have an extended family, or any family come to that, just what they make for themselves on the streets. I could go on and on........sorry.
I think what i really wish for is like minded people to live my life with, not just to exist.
I think i had better put on my specs again.
You know what I'm trying to say?

Please reserve me a cottage - I want to come. I went to visit CAT in Wales a couple of years ago with my partner and we were so inspired by their work that we have been members ever since. As well as running courses and projects, they have a community that live self sufficiently - even their buildings are built out of natural and eco products. Out of interest, they also have an on line shop and we often buy our books and gifts from there.

Heather - keep the specs on hun, Im just looking for mine an the bottom of my drawer!

I agree with what you said Heather.
People just blunder on through life not caring about much.
There's no unity anymore.
There's a really good song I like which i interpret to be about life and how we just don't do with it the full potential.

"And time recedes every day
You can search your soul but you won't see
As we pass ever on and away
Towards some blank infinity "

Yeah. Can we, can we, huh?

I would so love to do this and I actually had a conversation with some friends the weekend we went to CAT. I said that I would love to live in a little self-sufficient eco-commune. That was a couple of years ago!

Has Blackhawk been to CAT? If not, and he is into alternative/natural power and materials etc., he would find it soooooo interesting. It really inspired my partner when we went and he is off on his 2nd workshop this weekend.

MWC, I can see you sat in your garden with the kettle constantly on. I dont think your garden would ever be empty.

Bright dreams.

I am ashamed to say that I dont know the exact title but its to do with solar energy. He has a couple of engineering degrees and one day would like to set up a business installing solar heating panels.

Im afraid that I am not technically minded and lose the will to live if he tries to explain things to me too technically. Im more of a practicle person and like 'doing'. Therefore, I am off shopping!

(hmm ponders if that was the right word???? oh well)

I know a few people from other sites im on that are setting up communities, to be hoenst i think its a fantastic idea, allbeit a lot of work and trust involved. But to get something like that up and runnin, wow id be there in a flash.

I studied sustainable forestry and renewable energy at university, be nice to put some of it to practice or all that working out how much water to boil a kettle at what flow speed etc etc would reallyy of been for nothing haha. urgh i really did hate that class.

anyway im off with my rosey glasses and rosey glow now after all that dancing, and dance my way to momma white cougars little gazebo for some crones advice and a nice cuppa.....

So i have big cabbage rose design curtains and soft furnishings in mind.
I would love to own some of those gnarled old wood seats and tables...you know the ones that cost a small fortune. I think my cottage would be a cob one. I would have dried herbs hung from the kitchen ceiling on an old pulley thingy.
Heather desperately tries to click her Dorothy shoes together saying "there's no place like gaia's garden village, there's no place like gaia's garden village".
She wakes up to the sound of B21 playing bhangra in the background and gets up and dances round the room.....dontcha just love visualisation? he he.

oooooo arrrr Ever (thats Heather in West Country lingo). You have really made me laugh - what about being the village idiot? You could run around the street scaring all the kids when its bedtime - save us parents no end of shouting and stress!

Only joking hun - I think you should be the first Queen of the May.

As for the pub idea - Im not coming if there isnt one! Unless of course, anyone can make a good brew themselves.

Wouldnt it be fun to give everyone a part to play? Think I would quite like being a milk maid, although I definately dont have the cleavage for it!

If you'd have asked me before September, I would have said that Ash would be the perfect village idiot but hes gone all sensible now so Im not sure - maybe we dont need one anyway. Perhaps Ash could be our medicine man as he sounds like he's into all that now. Who else can we cast?

Blessings & no offence intended to any of my beautiful Garden friends.

Green Village, love it, as an idea. So how do we achieve this. By setting up a Village in Wales,,, great for that village. Does it stop us polluting the Earth,,?,, NO.
There are some very hard facts we as human beings have to face. We have allowed ourselves to out grow the natural cycle of supply and demand, yes I know it sounds like a bussiness plan, but we cannot feed ourselves without destroying a forrest or a species. At the moment I cannot say more.
Blessings to you all.

There is no 'natural' countryside left. All of it is managed in some form or another SOR.
Part of my degree is finding the balance between conserving and utilizing the space.
It is all a question of sustainability, not farming too intensley and trying to use natures resources wiseley etc etc.
But, if growing food in a small village, there will sureley be some arable agricultural land there, if not then try to live off the land etc etc.

And yes, I am very sensible now! It's too much hard work and stress, forced to grow up.
Jade, you can be quiet! You cost me £4 in credit!

SOR, Ash, I assume you've heard of Thomas Malthus? he theorised that with a finite amount of land, only a finite amount of food can be grown therefore only a finite populace can be sustained. depressing i know but it makes one wonder how he would view our reluctance to eat seasonal produce preferring to fly food from around the world with the environmental cost therein. I really want the village!

Your right SoR, but we have to accept that whats done is done and try to move on. If we can live as self sufficiently as possible, thats gotta be better that nothing hasnt it? As mentioned in one of my previous postings, the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales have exactly what we are talking about. They build dwellings out of hay, use wool for insulation, recycled tyres for roofing tiles, composting loo's and they harness the energy from the sun and wind to provide electricity (they even make too much and sell it back to the National Grid!). Its an amazing and inspiring place and if you havent been yet, I recommend you fit it in.

This is how I would see our village, and if nots possible, then whats the harm in dreaming?

Come on SoR, take that bah humbug hat off and put those rose coloured specs on!

Blessings - Lil

Sorry to hear you not firing on all cylinders today. We all get days like that. Your new job sounds great - do let us know how you get on.

I may have mislead you lovely Garden folk - as far as I am aware, you are not allowed to visit the actual village where they live (that is the people who work there). You look round the exhibits etc. Still a fab place to go though with loads of info about everything living eco-friendly-like.

I hope your day gets better - if not, drink wine. Thats my answer to most things and it usually works wonders. I'll have one for your tonight - need an excuse!

I went to a medieval banquet years ago and as I had just got engaged, we were asked to be Lord & Lady for the evening - got to wear posh crown and got fed & watered first (yey!). I found the mead to be quite sweet and little sickly (almost syrupy) but if you like sweet and syrupy then give it a go!

Im gonna make my own sloe gin this year - loads of my buddies do and its always so delicious and apparently very easy. I like easy! Let you know how it goes, hic!**~#@*

Blessings Lil

I have indeed heard of Thomas Malthus, and he is correct.
However, to get the most out of land requires intensive agriculture and that is not beneficial to the land. Organic agriculture is better for the land, but does not produce the kind of yield needed to sustain the amount of people in this country.
It's stupid.

Mmmmmm mead, I haven't done mead for ages, it makes me messy, but it's fun.

i like mead, its lurvely.

im only coming for the alcohol of course lol. intresting concept though the community living like Findhorn, ... parts of it appeal to me, parts of it just dont... ends up being a bit commerical but some fantastic ideals.
