It's not if every time you go, you enjoy the experience. If you challenge yourself, make friends, help other competitors, and not be completely self-absorbed in trying to win the title, then every one of those 15 times is beneficial to you and others. I'm sorry but if anyone does a pageant 15 times, I don't believe for a second that they're not trying to win the title. Of course they are! I don't know if I would call it desperate but I would definitely have to agree with the poster who said it's obsessive. If it was just about the "experience" then I think someone would just alternate between different pageants, every year for 15 years. Some titles are valued more than others sad to say. Many Miss America and Miss USA girls compete until they age out. In Mrs./Ms. there is no aging out so some will compete as many times as it takes. If I was married and I could afford it I would compete at the state level until I win for the big 3 yearly. (NT) -- repeat contender, 10/25/13 Fri

Just because one person views it as an obsession does not mean we all feel the same way. I say that if it is truly the title you want, then pursue it. What you do with your money is your business and as long as you are not taking money from a vacation fund, etc., you do your thing and stop listening to others who call it an obsession. They are speaking about Mrs. pageants otherwise you would age out of a Miss. That being said, it is still not my place, your place or anyone else's place to tell someone how or what to spend their money on. I have friends who spend an average of $50 a week on Lottery tickets and they have been doing this for years. Do you really think I give a darn what anyone does with their money or how many times they spend their money on the same thing over and over? Miss America requires every young lady to pay a Children's Miracle Network fee for every local they compete in and ever state competition. That can add up when you exhaust your supporters after the 3 or 4th pageant. Plus all the wardrobe you are required to wear and purchase for competition. VERY expensive, but they have mom's and dad's to pay. Some of the younger MRS still have mommy and daddy to help them out, especially those who competed as young ladies and never won, but for the most part it is on the family of the woman competing to pay. If "everything" is God's plan, then why are there disasters, violence, famine, etc Yes, I have a relationship with God, so don't go there. I just think it is a shame when people give up trying and accept failure because they use the excuse that God didn't will it to happen. Opportunities opened for me, after my loss, when I let myself be open to him. If his plan for you includes a win it will happen. Violence happens because we have free will, God is there! He knows before we do and is there to be our comfort. He cannot stop evil, disasters, or famine but he can put a spirit in us that help us, as humans, come together in love for one another. You don't have to understand, maybe it is not for you to understand right now. But for me it is clear.
