Miss Earth Netherlands 2009, Sabrina Anijs Revelations
Written by Woman of the Earth

How important is winning the Miss Earth crown to you? Why?

"First of all, I want to say that I’m feeling very privileged that I will represent my country and myself at the Miss Earth pageant; to be one of the women who are trying to help our environment, is one of the best things I can imagine. The Miss Earth pageant is one of the biggest beauty pageants in the whole world. But the thing that makes this the most beautiful pageant is that it stands for a cause for the environment. It’s true, the whole world has beautiful women, but when we can use beauty to improve our environment, why shouldn’t we do that? Beauty begins from the inside. When you have a good heart, are honest and be caring for your environment and your loved ones, you are very beautiful. For me the Miss Earth crown is very important. I know that I will do more than my best to represent the Miss Earth title and with full commitment I will try to bring a message to the whole earth. As I have said before, it’s not difficult to contribute to our environment. For me it’s important that everyone realizes it. I definitely think that the Miss Earth crown will help me send this message to the whole world." Sabrina Anijs, Dutch representative to Miss Earth 2009 pageant

Miss Bahamas World raising money for The Beacon School; Special Needs Students to Benefit from Major Fundraiser

Nassau, Bahamas (MBO) October 22, 2008 – To Miss Bahamas World 2009 Joanna Brown, Beauty with a Purpose is more than just a slogan. The goodwill ambassador is spearheading a project that is designed to raise money for mentally challenged students. The Grand Bahama native is inviting Bahamians to join her on October 30th for High Tea and high fashion in a major fundraiser at Government House on behalf of The Beacon School.

The Beacon School was opened in 1998 for the mentally challenged. Located in Freeport, the school was formerly known as the School for Exceptional Children. The school prepares its students for life after school, and in some cases, its students are returned to mainstream education in schools like Jack Hayward, St. Georges, Eight Mile Rock High and even in private institutions. The Beacon School offers technical and vocational training in addition to the core academic subjects like language arts, mathematics and social sciences. The technical and vocational curriculum offerings include computer enrichment, cosmetology, home economics, pottery and agriculture and the courses are integral to the development of daily and independent living skills in the school’s students. The school is committed in the belief that there is something that every child can do.

A total of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) is needed to establish an arts and crafts center at the school, which administrators believe can further help students to prepare for productive living. A building just across the street from the school has been earmarked for this center, however it requires some work. The money raised will go towards upgrading the building, as well as providing the supplies for the center, where students will be taught to make commercial jams and jellies, pottery and other artworks for sale. A small shop selling the items created by the students will also be housed in the building.

This is the second consecutive year that the Miss Bahamas Organization has partnered with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism to stage a Miss Bahamas World/People to People Tea Party and fashion show. The event will be held on Friday October 30th from 4 to 6 p.m. at historic Government House. Patrons attending the fundraiser will be treated to a Beat Retreat by the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band, as well as entertained by the likes of the Royal Bahamas Police Force Pop Band, and Miss Bahamas World Talent Winner Devera Pinder. Also on display will be fabulous Androsia and Bahama Hand print fashions. Patrons attending the event will be the first to see Miss Bahamas World’s wardrobe for her month long stay in South Africa at this year’s Miss World competition.

In addition to raising funds for The Beacon School through the silent auction, Miss Bahamas World will also lead the charge for another initiative that will involve retail shoppers. More information on that second phase of her fundraising efforts will be announced soon.

Tickets can be purchased at the event, but those planning on attending are advised to R.S.V.P. to the Miss Bahamas Organization at their email address info@missbahamas.net in order reserve seats. Organizers say while they realize that everyone is feeling the pinch of these tough economic times, they hope that Bahamians will support this worthy cause because by doing so, they will be helping others who are in even more need than they are. Joanna Brown leaves for Miss World on November 4th.

there are several reasons i am impressed with joanna and feel good about a secure placement at world...joanna will be the girl that nobody saw coming...there are several factors that i have considered to rationalize my claim and they are a follows...

* height/body - 6 footer...a clear standout! ...joanna has taken off a good bit of weight and has also TONED well...her stomach is FLAT, legs are toned and her breasts are at attention (no implants unlike gabby)...her weight is proportionate to her height and this captures a signature appeal for a queen...

* all natural - joanna is michelle's LEAST airbrushed queen and most natural...what you see is what you get...that airbrushing has literally killed ada aimee de la cruz, tinnyse, deandrea and anya - this bevy of lovlies all came out at world with amazing perfectly touched photos and presented as 'watered down' versions in real time - again joanna never seems to be wearing hardly any make up...compare for yourself...consistancy is very important and the way a queen 'rolls out' is important if she is to grow on the judges and adoring public alike

* angelic youth - joanna is visibly young...she hasnt taken on that 'hardness' as yet...for God's sake she is still growing (smile)...she has a sweet adorable appeal and her beauty is more 'ahhh' than 'woah'...again, this is world and not universe therein lies a big difference - a subdued beauty is prefered at world for sure
ethnic appeal...

unrehearsed - if you notice joanna doesnt come across robotic...her expressions and tone is spontaneous and unscripted very NOT typical of bahamian queens...

with a killer wardrobe and proper styling i expect miss brown to do the bahamas pround...again, the right girl was crowned!
