I have been seeing posts about Darronique and our new queens being noted as some of the best we've ever had and how beautiful they are and so on. I agree and I thought it would happen so this is not a surprise. What is surprising though is that I have not seen anything from the Hector guy that use to be all up on the Miss Bahamas Pageant during and after the queen was selected. I guess now it is safe to say that because he's not being paid by them that he don't blow smoke as he use to do. I wonder if it is seen as a lesson learned or this new batch of ppl are being allowed to use them the same way?

Dear MBO,

Since yall obviously come on this board to post press releases, I would like to share a few words with yall, that I REALLY HOPE you guys accept as constructive criticism, something that will help make you BETTER and not BITTER. You talked about REBIRTH on the news and hopefully this Year will be the Rebirth of how and what kind of Queen you choose. Yes YOU choose your Queen, because YOU choose your judging panel and YOU tell your judging panel what kind of Queen you want. I really hope it is YOU who tells the judges what they should look for since it's YOU who will have to deal with that Queen for the entire Year. Now

Have you EVER heard the famous Maya Angelou quote "If someone shows you who they are BELIEVE them"

Almost every flippin YEAR you continue to choose Queens who SHOW YOU EXACTLY who they are but yet you feel something magically will change when they are crowned, or worst you don't care about what they showed you because you feel that they will place internationally and that overrides all their faults. And then they don't place and your STUCK with them for the rest of the Year.

ANASTAGIA: This girl hardly went to pre events as a contestant, We didn't see her in the Government house photos, the Bimini photos, on some backstage pass shows. She Showed in her speech that the Bahamas was nothing but a ticket to Miss Universe and all the Fame that came with it. YET YOU STILL EXPECTED HER TO BE PRESENT DURING THIS year. I mean she came back ONCE to meet the PRince what a disgrace. Sad thing is I don't blame her, cause you knew she was using yall and the Bahamas from Day 1 but you didn't care cause yall thought yall was using her to place. She sure got you guys good. She showed you, she didn't give one lick about this country from the beginning yet YOU DIDN't BELIEVE HER

Sasha Joyce: Lack luster, low confidence, public speaking skills very mediocre and fashion sense very limited. Yet people ask why she look like that when she go out, why she so dry in the pictures, why she doesn't sound comfortable when she speaks. Heck she was the first Queen that yall didn't even allow to host backstage pass so you know I'm right when I said it's not up to par. BUT SHE NEVER DID any of those things, so again i don't blame her, she was a girl who wanted to be Miss Bahamas and you gave her the chance but was she honestly the BEST no, but for a hopeful placement in Sports Woman you ignored the other Queenly attributes to again hope for a placement.

I can go on and on.. about Queens who gave you headaches during their reigns when they SHOWED YOU EXACTLY who they were before you chose them. So for Christ sake in the season of this so called "REBIRTH" choose a contestant who has majority of the attributes of a Queen and not just your favorite or someone with one good quality that you feel will get you recognized internationally. A Reign is for an entire year, and that international competition is 2 to 3 weeks out of the whole year.

Crown a girl who will elevate us internationally and NATIONALLY

I'm out

An impressive slate of judges has been assembled to choose the national beauty queens of The Bahamas. Assigned to the task of selecting the new Miss World Bahamas and Miss Universe Bahamas Universe:

LEILA LOPES

On September 12, 2011 Leila Lopes made history as the first woman from Angola to win the Miss Universe crown. Leila is only the fourth woman from Africa in the pageant’s sixty year history to win the Miss Universe title. Before being crowned Miss Universe 2011, Leila attended school for business management at Suffolk University in Ipswich, England. It was during this time she decided to participate in her country’s national beauty pageant. Leila not only won the Photogenic Award, but the prestigious title of Miss Universe Angola 2011, gaining her the right to represent Angola in the 2011 MISS UNIVERSE® Pageant.

A strong, confident woman who is not afraid of a challenge, Leila says: “As Miss Universe, I want to show the world that there is more to Africa than poverty, hunger and disease. I want people to know that Africa has a lot to offer and that my country of Angola is not only beautiful, but it is a country that is developing socially, economically and culturally.” As Miss Universe, Leila uses her title to champion HIV/AIDS prevention and works with organizations such as YouthAIDS/PSI, Latino Commission on AIDS, Gay Men’s Health Crisis, among others. She was also named Drylands Ambassador by the United Nation Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in an effort to combat land degradation – an issue that affects not only her country but the entire continent of Africa.

Leila has been making waves in the media since winning the title and has been featured on the cover of publications such as New African Woman and Selecta Magazine. She also took her passion for fashion and hit the runway for designers, such as SACHIKA and Rolando Santana, during the 2012 New York Fashion Week. In her spare time Leila enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends. After her reign, she hopes to obtain her degree and pursue her dream of opening a cosmetics company in Angola.

She’s done it again! Being noticed from a field of 120 contestants is no easy task, but so far Daronique Young is holding her own! Auditions have just finished for this year’s Miss World Top Model showcase and you guessed it…. Daronique was selected as one of the top contestants who will walk in the Top Model fashion show. The selected few will walk in a fashion show for a cashmere line called 1436. Of course, we here in the Bahamas know that Daronique is no stranger to the runway. She has walked in multiple fashion shows for many designers. So all we have to say is DO YOUR THING DARRY! We know you’ll make us proud! Good job!!!

Subject: Atlantis Paradise Island becomes Title Sponsor of Miss Bahamas Pageant; Partnership to elevate Pageant’s National Prominence

Date Posted: Tuesday, July 17, 04:50:44pm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 16, 2012 - The Miss Bahamas Organization® and Atlantis Paradise Island have teamed up to produce a world class event under the title sponsorship of the mega resort. Under the theme “The Phoenix”, the 2012 Double Crown Miss Bahamas beauty pageant will now be staged as an official Atlantis event. Executives promise that on July 29th, patrons attending the pageant will be treated to an unforgettable, first class production.

From the staging, to the latest technology in lighting and sound, to seating capacity, to the overall experience, the 2012 Double Crown Miss Bahamas pageant will have a new look and feel as the pageant is now under the management of the Atlantis Paradise Island resort. Atlantis, known for producing spectacular shows featuring some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, will now produce and manage the finale of the national beauty pageant, introducing a totally new look and design to the competition. It is anticipated that this new partnership will elevate the event to a much higher standard both in terms of the level of the production and its national prominence.

The partnership with Atlantis couldn’t have come at a better time. MBO executives say it is the manifestation of the rebirth that was envisioned when the theme of this year’s pageant was selected. “We are thrilled to be returning to the Atlantis Resort again, but this time as a full-fledged partner,” said MBO President Michelle Malcolm. “After facing such a difficult year last year, we just felt that we were on the verge of a rebirth – and thus the theme the Phoenix. And now here we are announcing this partnership with Atlantis which is truly a new beginning for us on so many levels.” Atlantis Senior Vice President of Special Events and Entertainment Michele Wiltshire noted that by sponsoring the event, Atlantis is helping to thrust the pageant to a truly national level. She encouraged Bahamians everywhere to come out and be a part of the event. “There are 1500 seats available and we would love to see them filled. These young ladies are representing the entire country, and they really should be supported by everyone.”

The announcement comes as Atlantis prepares to stage “Pageant Weekend” at the end of July, at which time the resort will host both the Miss Teen USA and Miss Bahamas competitions. The 51 contestants in Miss Teen USA® will take to the stage beginning Friday, July 27, for the preliminary show, followed by the actual crowning of Miss Teen USA® on Saturday July 28th. On Sunday, July 29th 14 contestants will take to the stage to compete for the coveted Crowns of Miss Universe Bahamas 2012 and Miss World Bahamas 2013. This will be the third year that Atlantis has hosted the Miss Bahamas pageant - official preliminary to the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants - and the fifth consecutive year that the Miss Teen USA® Competition has been held at the property.

In previous years, the Miss Bahamas pageant was held in the Atlantis Theatre which offered limited seating. With the move to the Grand Ballroom for this year’s pageant, seating capacity has tripled. 1500 seats will be available for the pageant, ranging in prices from $100 for VIP seating, to $50 Deluxe and $25 Preferred. It is hoped that the wider price range of tickets will allow for more Bahamians and visitors to enjoy the pageant. Atlantis is also making it easier for persons to attend the pageant who reside outside of the country, in other islands, or simply wish to stay at the resort by offering a reduced rate on hotel rooms. The following rates are being offered to persons wishing to stay at Atlantis during the weekend of July 26 -30, 2012.

Beach Tower $169.00 per night
Coral Towers $189.00 per night
Royal Towers $209.00 per night

Plus Tax 18%, maid gratuity $5.00 per person, per day (12 years and older) and utility surcharge $13.95 per person, per day (12 years and older). It should also be noted that all bookings for these rates are to be made directly through the Atlantis Reservations Department at (242) 363-2000 Ext. 64302 or via email pid-group reservations and/or the Sales Department (242) 363-2000 Ext. 66346 and must indicate that they are with the Miss Bahamas pageant.

Two titleholders will be selected at the pageant. The winner of the Miss Universe Bahamas title will go on to compete in this year’s Miss Universe pageant while the winner of the Miss World Bahamas title will compete in next year’s Miss World pageant. To win one of the coveted titles, each contestant will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview. Last year’s titles were won by Sasha Joyce for Miss World and Anastagia Pierre for Miss Universe.

WINNER : Celeste- EXCELLENT WALK, she glides on stage like a pro, which she is so a lot was expected BEFORE she stepped on the runway and she DELIVERED, very regal! However her styling was VERY BORING and not memorable at all. Clearly style was not judged AT ALL, which sad cause you miswell just give the girls ALL outfits to wear.

1st RUNNER UP
Rakia Rolle : AWESOME WAlk, same point as Celeste with styling very dry, her placement was obviously about walk alone. She needs not to lie it's VERY OBVIOUS she is NOT 5'9' even on her TIPPY TOES, probably 5'4 , 5'5

2nd RUNNER UP
D'andra Bannister: AWESOME styling, she is very creative and knows how to make her presence felt, this girl is very much in the runnings for top placement in this actual pageant top Model. NOT FOR ME, her walk is VERY WEAK and wayyy too rushed. The last walk was the best , first two kind of scary for me. IT NEEDS WORK, she could have been left out of the top 3 for TOp model

Girls who WERE VERY CLOSE!!

Analicia Thompson: Her bottom half walk is good and HER LOOK ALONE IS AWESOME for modeling, I think she got discovered. Her sway on the top is VERY ANNOYING!! Toss up for top 3 I would feel indifferent if she made it

Autumn - Joy- Styling on point as well, VERY creative and showed a lot of personality. Her walk was a little Bouncy but still felt it was TOP 3 worthy, like a previous poster mentioned, I think she deserved a top 3 placement in Top Model,

Irina Key- EXPECTED her to be in TOP 3 BEFORE the show, Styling was on an off, walk was just OK. I HAVE SEEN THIS GIRL WALk, it's usually AMAZING, it wasn't on par at the competition. It wasn't horrible also a Toss up for Top 3 it def was still one of the strongest walks and def was strong than D'andra Bannister

Honorable Mention :

Jasmine Forbes and Nevandria Miss Abaco , not a model figure , height or Walk but really tried to stand out with their styling. Their walks were just ok, but I applaud their efforts, for putting up a GOOD FIGHT!
