**Special Note**
I prefer Global Beauty predictions because it’s more consistent and Missology predictions change every week and it’s confusing. But I do hope Miss Dominican Republic wins but I won’t put nothing pass Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela who are known to raise out of the dead come pageant NIGHT. I would love to see Miss Jamaica and Miss Costa Rica in the top ten but they must be consistent and on top come August 1st.

Global Beauties Annual Grand Slam Ranking 2008 results...
Miss Bahamas Universe- Sasha Scott
Miss Bahamas World- Tinnyse Johnson
Miss Bahamas Earth- Garnell Storr
Miss Bahamas International- Amy Knowles
Miss Tourism Queen International- Tiara Cooper

http://www.globalbeauties.com/ranking/ranking3.htm

Rank COUNTRY Total World Universe. Intern. Earth MTQI
112 BAHAMAS 179,5 50,0 36,4 3,1 88,0 2,0

In 2007 The Bahamas ranked 110th.

Truth's 2008 input:
Garnell Storr led the pack in 2008 system however I know a huge amount of people would disagree and say Tinnyse Johnson led the pack. Each pageant has a different system one pageant focus on modelling skills, other focus on community development skills, other pageant focus on environmental development etc. I was very disappointed in 2008 queens selection. I feel Tinnyse Johnson came the closest to placing last year however I must say Garnell did a wonderful job despite her F*cked up organization. In a way I do understand why Global Beauties felt Garnell chances was the greatest. I know a good much of Bahamians dislike her and discriminate her based upon her skin color. But what we must understand that Pageants nowadays try to rank a DIVERSE semi-finalist. Now dont get me wrong Im no huge fan of Garnell I think shes very unattractive and fake however despite not being supported by her country, her organisers etc she has done good.
Now Sasha Scott isnt Miss Universe Material in the first place I think 2008 Miss Bahamas Universe contestants was the weakest out of the bunch and although im a SASHA fan she wasn’t ready for 2008 Miss Universe. Her styling was horrible, her body needed MUCH work and the only positive thing I have to say is that Sasha brains and speaking skills helped her. Now if you compare Sasha to Tinnyse. Tinnyse needed what Sasha had and Sasha needed what Tinnyse had. I'm no huge fan of Tinnyse but she did a good job at Miss World. Her downfall was her personality, her make-up, her speaking skills and Modelling skills. Before the Miss World pageant Tinnyse was a favourite but come Miss World... contestants like Miss Trinidad and Miss Puerto Rico didnt just depend on their beauty and styling but showed of their people's skills, change their styling, and worked on their speaking skills which carried them to the Finals. Especially Miss Trinidad she stands 5'6 but despite that place in MANY EVENTS including Top model which favours TALL CONTESTANTS.
Now Tiara Cooper who I think was the prettiest girl in 2008 Pageant season. Her Major PROBLEM WAS HER PERSONALITY and SHYNESS. Some judges LIKE that in a girl but Most forget the girl at the end of the day. AND PLEASE NOTE that GLOBAL BEAUTIES have TIARA COOPER as the worst girl out of the BIG5 pageants. Amy Knowles was MISS UNIVERSE MATERIAL out of the contestants in Miss Bahamas Universe 08'. I really dont like her skin and hair but she did alright and best wishes to her.

COMPARING THE BAHAMAS 08' Pageant Season to 09 Pageant SEASON:

I am disappointed in Miss Bahamas Universe 09' judges selection Knowing off the TOP that short girls HARDLY do well at Miss Universe which is like a MODELING competition. Camille Kenny might have her flaws like skin however her modelling skills was the best SUITED out of the Miss Bahamas Universe 09' contestants. Camille Kenny could’ve bring a bridge between miss Bahamas World and Miss Bahamas Universe members, designers, sponsors to make THE BEST HOSTING QUEEN EVER. I notice there was many Amanda Applewood fans however due to Miss Bahamas pageant night and Miss Universe two to three months approaching her BODY would NOT be ready for Miss Universe. Amanda is more Miss World material and NOT Miss Universe material. Now Ife Bethel-Sears who some may consider ugly she might not be the attractive out of the bunch but her completion, her body SCREAMS MISS UNIVERSE. Now Garelle Hudson body wasnt ready and her look is a bit Boring but she has the FIERCENESS for Miss Universe. Clearly girls like Enna, Allysa,Jade,Krystel who some may consider the best looking out of the bunch but they all lack pageantry knowledge and FIERCENESS what Miss Universe officials look for in a queen but its not to Late for girls like Jade to join again because she is beautiful and young. Amanda should Join MISS BAHAMAS WORLD and not miss Bahamas Universe.
I was very VERY nervous with Miss Bahamas World 2009 judges selection however she screams Miss World. I am disappointed in Miss Bahamas world contestants because I dont see no one who would be ready to compete the next day after being crowned. The girls who come close to miss world material body was a huge problem like Joanna and Dashonique. But looking at Joanna now I SEE A BIG DIFFRENCE and out of the CARRIBEAN girls I see her doing well after looking at Miss Jam. 09 world contestants and the current Caribbean queens. The best advice I would give Joanna is to LOOSE that WEIGHT, study Miss world and contestants, work on your speaking skills and learn now to be F-I-E-R-C-E for Top MODEL at Miss World. Now Im happy with llatera Laing and a bit sweet-bitter at Dashonique being Third. I still feel Devera is suited however Devera and Dashonique might be the same age and Dashonique looks way older so if you look at it from the point of view well I guess so... NOW OBSERVING THE PAGEANTS for Years now... I know most pageants directors BEFORE the night of the pageant KNOW WHO WILL WIN and in this case Im sure Michelle knew off the top Joanna would win. Now the best advice I would give to Michelle is she must be CAUTIOUS... VERY CAUTIOUS with deciding the top 3 queens. Now way under the sun Kendra shouldve NOT PLACE top 5. I'm sure Michelle knew before Kendra joined Miss Bahamas World that her look is NOT miss world material... SHE SHOULDNT have accepted her... Im old school and I believe in THE POINT System instead of the POTENTIAL SYSTEM. Now way under the sun that Kendra shouldnt have place top 3 when she won most of the VALUABLE competitions at miss world like Swim suit. I feel If Michelle knows she wont crown a girl who has the mISS wORLD LOOK or Height or speaking skills...WHY ACCEPT HER?... To me thats not fair and it will slowly but ultimately tarnish your organization. 2007 was PERFECT, 2008 height issues and now 2009 miss world look issues.

Organisers of the Miss England contest have been forced to defend the winner after it emerged she won only nine votes from the public.
Rachel Christie, 20, the niece of Olympic champion Linford Christie, won the title on Monday night against 14 other finalists.
A heptathlete aiming to follow in her uncle's footsteps, she was placed first by four of the six judges in the final and won the competition.

But in a public vote before the final, the winner of which won a place in the last 15, Miss Christie - who is also a part-time model - came 49th out of the 54 candidates.
People had been invited to take part in the survey conducted on the Miss England website, with calls costing £1 each on a premium rate phone line.
Fellow finalist Zoiey Smale got 2,013 votes compared to Miss Christie's nine but failed to finish in the top three.

She said: 'I felt quite let down as did all the girls that I spoke to because the ranking three didn't win any of the wards that were available for our hard work in the run-up to the finals.
'There were so many things we had to do. Yet none of it matter at the end of the day. The public vote was supposed to be acting as one of the judges' decisions. It was a big deal to me, but on the night it felt like it meant nothing.'

Organiser Angie Beasley said all the girls knew success in the public vote would only secure a place in the last 15 and counted as one-seventh of the final judging decision.
'When it gets to the top 15, they are judged on their confidence and their posture on stage and they are judged on their beauty and their personality,' she said.

'When it gets to the top 15 you cannot have the public vote judging that, it has to be a professional panel.'
Miss Christie also had a fast-track place because she had won the Helen E Cosmetic Award which guaranteed a spot in the final.

Half the finalists were fast-track contestants.

WOW!!!! I have just visited The Miss Teen Bahamas Pageant's website and OMG! What an absolutely professional display of pageantry at its best! Let me say that I do not know Theo personally, but of course I know OF HIM from my involvement in the local pageant industry, and I am being completely objective and unbaised when I say that he has shown that he is serious about presenting a professional, classy pegeant organization. He is been consistent from year one of Miss Teen, and I for one sincerely wish that Theo pursues the Miss Universe franschise . . . POST HASTE!! Based on the work he has done and is doing with his pageant franchise, he is obviously qualified to take Miss Bahamas Universe to the higher level it should be at. I was initially hoping that Michelle would puruse the MBU franchise, but Theo has emerged to be a force to be reckoned with in pageantry, and because of his youth, vision and pasion for pageantry, I sincerely believe that he would do a SPECTACULAR job as the owner of the MBU franchise. Theo, I know PERSONALLY, that the only thing you need to do to obtain the MBU franchise is to OUT BID Garnell and her father. That is is, plain and simple, and that comes DIRECTLY from the Miss Universe international licesing division. Theo, find a finacial backer and JUST DO IT!!!! Do not let the next opportunity for obtaning the Miss Bahamas Universe pageant pass by. I sincerely hope that you take this suggestion/encouragement seriously.

Does anyone know what our 2 major Bahamian Queens have been up to (i.e. Official Activities since being crowned)? I checked both sites for updates on their recent activities but neither site has been updated since they were crowned. I thought MBO would at least have Joanna's activities posted as well as recent pics of her at events. They (MBO) used to be really good at promoting their queen and consistent with their updates, but I can't say that I expect anything more from the MBU Organization. A quick note to leaders of both organizations . . . regular updates about the reigning queen keeps pageant fans interested in the queen as well as the organization, particularly prospective delegates who may be considering entering. Irregular updates, makes it appear that the reigning queen isn't doing anything with her title, whether or not that is true; Perception is reality. Hopefully both organizations will take this construction criticism for what it is and not take offense. Best wishes to all.

MISS JAMAICA 2009 - CAROLYN YAPP

it's official...pulse jamaica has just elected a new queen to represent at miss universe she is CAROLYN YAPP - a local pageant veteran having entered several pageants in the recent past - a small & private screening (boutique selection) was held and subsequently yapp was crowned...i have attached an article from april/2005 describing yapp’s disappointing finish in miss jamaica universe 2005 when she lost to raquel wright(very similar to camille kenny's scenario) where the unattractive girl won and the obvious queen didn’t....

JAMAICA CAN GET IT RIGHT IN ONE FRIGGIN WEEK AND WE CANT IN A WHOLE DAMN YEAR...FOR ALL OF YOU WHO TALKIN ASS ABOUT WHO SHOULD 'LOOSE LITTLE WEIGHT' HERE AND THERE AND TING TAKE A NOTE FROM JAMAICA...THEY CHOSE A GIRL TONIGHT AND SHE IS READY TO BOARD THE PLANE TOMORROW TO COMPETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Raquel Wright is Miss Jamaica Universe 2005
published: Tuesday | April 19, 2005

Alicia Roache, Staff Reporter

src= http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20050419/ent/Images/MsJa.UniverseZP20050418WS.JPG>

The Queen and the runners-up: Raquel Wright, (second left) poses with second place winner Shemille Blake(left), and two third place winners, Carolyn Yapp and Chavoy Gordon.

EVEN BY pageant standards, the script turned with stunning swiftness. When Raquel Wright was announced as Miss Jamaica Universe 2005 at the grand coronation on Sunday night, it was the completion of a surprise ending to an intricately woven plot.

And never, maybe, was a third place announcement - joint, at that - met with such obvious shock.

By beauty pageant standards Carolyn Yapp was supposed to have been the winner of the pageant.

Everything was in place, it seemed, the right gown (she won for 'Best in Evening Wear'), the right attitude (she swung her shoulders and hips and smiled confidently as she paraded on stage throughout the night) and the backing of 'the people' (she won the 'People's Choice Award' and had her own cheering team present). There were at least two groups in the Hilton ballroom, one on each side, cheering for Carolyn, bearing banners with her name.

Given all of that, plus the fact that she had the experience to boot, having placed a very near second in the Miss Jamaica World pageant last year and in that competition the 'people's choice', Tonoya Toyloy, had won, it seemed she should have won on Sunday.

SO WHY DIDN'T SHE?

Well, there were two (perhaps three) other girls who strutted in her way, the most impressive of which was the eventual winner, 23 year-old Raquel Wright. She won $2 million in cash and prizes the coveted crown and the title, the Miss Universe winner's wardrobe and the opportunity to represent Jamaica at the Miss Universe pagent in Bangkok, Thailand on May 31.

But, the look of utter disappointment on the face of the second runner-up Yapp, even as she tried desperately, but in vain to cover it with a smile, was enough to make a sympathetic audience member want to cry. She looked like she would cry as she shared third place, another pageant plot twist, with Chavoy Gordon.

Shemille Blake, a crowd favourite, placed second and a very ecstatic Raquel Wright, became the new Miss Jamaica Universe. Raquel also won the 'Most Congenial' contestant award, what is thought to be the 'booby prize' of pageants, usually reserved for the girl who never stood a chance of winning the title in the first place.

WHAT A TWIST

Shemille Blake won prizes for being the 'Most Aware' and 'Most Photogenic' contestant, while Chavoy won for being the 'Best in Swimsuit'. Natalia de Lisser completed the top five.

The disappointment of one contestant did not overshadow the joy of another, though, and Raquel celebrated with her friends, family and well-wishers afterwards. "It's been a great experience," she breathed, between sips of water and trying to compose herself. "I wasn't sure I was going to win, but I think I am quite deserving," she said.

Raquel wore a red, sequinned gown with a satin strap that crossed one shoulder, designed by Uzuri. In fact, Uzuri designed all the gowns worn by the 13 contestants.

The show, which started promptly at 8 p.m. was enjoyable throughout and, with the exception of a few minor glitches, ran smoothly. After a dramatic opening which served to introduce the finalists in a 'Chicago'-styled vaudeville presentation, the show continued with the contestants in swimwear by Mushroom.

Amid the beauty and pageantry of the ceremony, the show went a bit down to earth with performances by singer G-Whiz, with Treat Her Like a Lady, and the 'Crew Demolition' dance group, with a breakdance routine.

Contestants also added to the performance segment of the show, with songs, poems and mini skits about love and self-affirmation in a script that was well rehearsed and well presented. This talent section, however, did more to highlight the lack thereof, with quite a few of the contestants singing flat and off-key. Djavila Smith, however, the sole dancer of the finalists, stuck to something with which she is obviously familiar and gave what may have been the best (though very brief) performance of the group.

In the end, the package was well presented and at the end of the night, none could be heard complaining of the outcome - not even one disappointed contestant.

The search is on for Miss Jamaica Universe 2009
Published: Sunday | July 12, 2009

Pulse and The Miss Universe Organisation want to know the answer to this question, is there a fabulous Jamaican young woman who wants a shot at the Miss Universe crown?

Earlier this year, Pulse gave up the licence to stage the Jamaica preliminary to Miss Universe. However, the Donald Trump-led Miss Universe Organisation has requested a Jamaican queen in the competition this year. Pulse said it is prepared to organise a judges' selection on behalf of Miss Universe, but will only do so if someone worthy of the title can be found.

According to Pulse Chairman Kingsley Cooper, "This will be the final Miss Jamaica Universe that Pulse will send to the pageant. If she is not exceptional, we will not participate."

With that in mind, Pulse is inviting entries. The competition is open to young women between the ages of 18-26 years-old, who have never been married or had a child. They must also possess poise, beauty of face and body, intelligence and awareness. This year's event will be held at Atlantis Paradise Island in The Bahamas on August 23.

Last year's coronation show, which was won by 19-year-old April Jackson, attracted more than 5,000 patrons at a sold-out event which saw R&B superstar Keyshia Cole performing in Jamaica for the first time, making it one of the most successful beauty pageants ever staged in the Caribbean.

A tradition of excellence

Jamaica has had significant success at Miss Universe pageants, claiming four top-10 finishes - Sandra Foster, Nicole Haughton, Christine Straw and Kimberley Mais. Several other beauties, including Sanya Hughes, Rachel Stuart, Trudy Ferguson, Justine Willoughby, Bridgette Rhoden and Zahra Redwood, the first Rastafarian beauty queen to appear in a major international pageant, have also raised Jamaica's profile at the international pageant.

Now in its 58th year, the Miss Universe pageant features some of the planet's most beautiful and articulate women from some 85 countries, and is watched by close to a billion viewers worldwide.

Venezuelan Dayana Mendoza is the reigning Miss Universe.

Interested candidates can contact Pulse at 960-0049 or at info@pulsecaribbean.com

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DONT REALIZE THE GRAVITY OF THE AFORMENTIONED ARTICLE...I THINK ITS SAFE TO SAY THAT THE MISS UNIVERSE ORGANIZATION IS HUNGRY FOR A BLACK QUEEN....WORD IS THAT THE ORGANIZATION HAS PETITIONED ALL OF THE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS AS WELL...AGAIN...WHAT A WASTED OPPORTUNITY FOR US!! WHERE IS JAMAICA SUPPOSED TO FIND A QUEEN IN TWO WEEKS? THIS SIMPLY SAYS TO ME THAT THEY WILL SCREEN AND ELECT A REPRESENTATIVE...SOMETHING WE SHOULD HAVE DONE!!!

Miss Universe Tickets for finals are $175 to $1000 this is outrageous. Each and every other event you have to pay seperatly to see including the after party. The Costume contest is $175. The cheapest is the Swimsuit contest at $500 but then again that is at our Lucuya in Freeport. The $175 Tickets for the finals will you actualy be able to see anything or will you need Binnoculars?. What is the stage layout set like. Is thier a layout of the seating?.
