The Punch reported that Miss Bahamas Universe 2009 Kiara Sherman cried like a baby after not making the Top 15. It said she was the first Host Country Queen not to make the Top 15. This is simply not true. I saw Kiara at the Coronational Ball shortly after the pageant. She came up and spoke to me. She was very sweet and composed. She thanked me for coming out. There were no signs at al that she had been crying. She was very Happy and I told she made the Bahamas Proud and was a great Host Country Queen. Also it is not true that she is the first Host Country Queen not to make the Semi-finals. In 1979 Miss Australia did not make cut when it was held in Perth Australia, miss Panama did not make the cut when it was held there in 1986 other Queens including Miss Trinidad & Tabago in 1999 did not mae the Cut when it was held there. The Punch should get the facts first before printing rubbish.

Chile, yinna dis is sumtin' someone wrote on Critical Beauty Messageboard (someone by da name Expose). I ene know how true it is, but what yinna tink?

Donald Trump and he people betta watch it! Pageant people round da world gettin' fed up wit he bull sh*t. Someone told me he knock out 5 strong girls so dat he European favorites could place (Iceland, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, and Croatia). As we saw, all except Switzerland were knock out after da swimsuit competition. To me, dat is not fair to knock out 5 girls who work dey asses off to get to Miss Universe. So, as Trump can see, his strategy ene working cuz' he picks does get knock out in da first round (suck teet). Poor Ada! My girl was suppose to win Miss Universe.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Two days after the crowning of a new Miss Universe and a day before it finally leaves the Bahamas, the MUO called on a high level staff meeting behind closed doors in one of the Atlantis Resort’s function rooms. The principal objective of the meeting was simple: provide a post production/post-event evaluation of the just concluded pageant. As a part of the “wardrobe crew” of this year’s Miss Universe pageant, I had the privilege of joining the exclusive meeting and “in the interest of the truth,” would now want to share with the public some of the things that I found out.

TRUMP AND MUO

Officers and staff of the MUO (including Paula) aren’t very happy with the way the results are formulated year after year after year. Most of them feel really bad how pageant fans the world over react negatively to the MUO’s supposed choices, especially since the final results declared on pageant night aren’t exactly reflective of the real list that preliminary judges come up with. Paula even commented, “pageant fans aren’t blind. They have a good feel of who are in and who are not.” She even feels for deserving contestants who get booted out by the so-called Trump ladies and has admitted to feeling very uncomfortable having to look at these ladies’ supporters straight in the eye and give them an explanation for an obvious injustice. The fact that there were no Asians in this year’s Final 15 made Paula shake her head in disappointment saying “there’s just no way for us to deny that some of our results were somehow fixed. We could have at least had token spots.” No matter how difficult, at the end of the day, Paula just chooses to stand by what her boss wants and be the pro that she is! Based on what I heard during the meeting, however, discontent over Trump’s management of the MUO is growing.

TRUMP CARDS

No matter how hard they deny it or even cover up the existence of a Trump list, let it be said that Mr. Trump truly does a selection of his own favorites. This was thoroughly discussed during the meeting. In this year’s edition of the Miss Universe Pageant, five Top 15 ladies were taken out of the list to give way to Mr. Trump’s personal choices. Statuesque Ms. Vietnam was one of them. Even worse was the case of the Philippines, which already had three delegates taken out of the semifinal list in three editions of the Trump organized Miss Universe Pageant. India is another country that is slowly losing its steam as far as Mr. Trump is concerned. Mr. Trump once commented that Indian women are “way too smart and not very sexy.”

IT IS ALL BUSINESS

While pageant fanatics may consider exclusion of their ladies as an act of racism or personal bias, the truth about the selection of Miss Universe winners under the Trump franchise is that this is all based on business. Check out the global footprint of the Trump Organization’s Real Estate, Hotel and Golf Club businesses. It will be easy to correlate their locations to the winners of his pageant. Aside from having these types of developments all over the USA, Mr. Trump has real estate projects in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic (it should no longer surprise you why Dominican Republic has been very successful in penetrating the top 5 almost yearly, with Amelia Vega as a recent winner); Toronto, Canada (of course Natalie’s crown was a fitting “thank you”); Seoul, Soth Korea (Honey Lee’s third runner up finish was close); Rio Grande, Puerto Rico (okay, this is just so obvious—Puerto Rico’s almost assured of a top 5 slot yearly); and Dubai, UAE (well, he can’t do much about this given the UAE’s Muslim tradition). Other countries, which may be allotted regular spots in the Miss Universe final selection are: Panama (for Mr. Trump’s projects in Panama City); Scotland (he’s got developments in Aberdeen); and Turkey (to support his interests in Istanbul). Of course, token spots may also be granted for Miss Universe sponsors, as in the cases of BSC (Thailand) and Mikimoto (Japan). To pageant fans, never ever forget that Mr. Trump is a businessman, a shrewd one. As a business partner, I’d even say he’s good. He knows how to match a partner’s generosity and kindness (quid pro quo)—and the easiest way for him is through his Miss Universe franchise.

I guess that’s all I am allowed to share. You know how things are run in this pageant now. As for me, my job here’s done—I guess. I’ve decided to tender my resignation after this whole thing is over. I am glad to have shared this with all of you.

FIRST AND FOREMOST. I PERSONALLY THINK THAT OWEN BETHEL HAS NO EXPERIENCE WITH PAGEANTRY ALONG WITH PHYILLIS, THEY ARE BOTH INTO MODELLING. HOWEVER, LOOK AT MICHELLE'S TRACK RECORD SHE WAS A FINALIST IN THE MISS BAHAMAS PAGEANT BACK IN THE 80'S AND WAS COACHING GIRLS WHO HAS WON MISS BAHAMAS SUCH AS MEKA KNOWLES AND LESLIA MILLER WHO WAS 1ST RUNNER UP IN MISS BAHAMAS THAT YEAR WHEN Gaynell CHEATED BECAUSE RAQUELL HORTON WAS DATING HER BROTHER AND LESLIA HAS WON THE INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT MISS AMERICAS.THAT MICHELLE ALSO TRAINED HER FOR. MICHELLE HAS PRODUCE SOME VERY GOOD QUALITY QUEENS AND I MUST MENTION ANYA WATKINS, AND DEANDREA CONLIFFE WHO ARE BOTH STUNNING YOUNG WOMEN. I WILL MENTION TYNISE JOHNSON AS WELL ONLY BECAUSE SHE DID HAVE THAT INTERNATIONAL LOOK AND SHE HAD ALL THE REQUIRMENTS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE. MICHELLE KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN AN INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT I AM NOT EVEN TALKING ABOUT OUR LOCAL COMPETITIONS HERE SHE TRAINS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE THAT IS WHY HER SCANNING IS SO TOUGH NOT JUST ANYONE CAN ENTER MISS BAHAMAS WORLD YOU MUST MEET THE REQUIREMENTS AND I MEAN THE INTERNATIONAL REQUIREMENTS. SO JUST IMAGINE IF SHE HOLDS THE FRANCHISE FOR MISS BAHAMAS UNIVERSE YOU WOULD SEE LADIES IN THE COMPETITION WHO DONT MEET THE REQUIREMENT.

Tales from the crypt

A new Miss Universe has been crowned, many pageant fans are not happy with the results, and an online petition is going around the world condemning the results and demanding that MUO "provide a reasonable explanation on how [their] accounting methods proved Miss Venezuela to be the winner in this recent election." Interested in signing the petition?

Gee, I wonder who started the petition? Could it be Dominicans who felt cheated out that their delegate - a seasoned pageant veteran with a commanding stature and exotic features - was defeated by a much younger, yet ebullient and always cheerful brunette? Or could it be Puerto Ricans who are shouting fraud and claiming that the results might have been read in reverse order? It doesn't really matter who started the petition, because MUO will just ignore it. Besides, MUO is not obligated to reveal their accounting books to the public, unless the federal government demands it.

Anyway, there are far more interesting things to talk about, like the following stories. Fact or fiction? You decide. Though I can tell you that these "tales" were submitted to me by an extremely reliable source, and it's not someone from the CB coverage team!

1. When the top 5 had already been selected, MUO President Paula Shugart approached the judges on several occasions and with her hand she gave instructions on how they should vote. At one point, she was seen arguing with André Leon Talley. She kept insisting and telling the judges that they choose a beauty queen/model. Apparently, this wasn't the first time that Paula had an argument with judges; in 2007, some people noticed a disgusted Paula telling the judges that MUO wanted a queen with fashion sense.

2. From the stage, several candidates noticed Donald Trump hinting to Paula Shugart that the winner should either be Australia or Puerto Rico.

3. As soon as the telecast ended, a bothered and serious Paula Shugart told Lark-Marie Anton that they should wrap up with the picture-taking on stage.

4. Several delegates commented that they had prepared themselves to attend several activities only to be told that they couldn't go anywhere and that they should remain in their rooms to rest. There were some delegates who expressed their annoyance because they only visited one island, whereas most of the other delegates went to more than one island.

5. Miss Turks and Caicos Jewel Selver suffered from severe depression and many of the contestants tried to cheer her up so she could stay, but she decided to leave instead. What MUO said about the status of her health is completely false. She left because of severe depression caused for the most part by two Latin delegates - allegedly Miss Argentina Johanna Lasic and Miss Colombia Michelle Rouillard (photo).

6. Miss Colombia hardly spoke to the other Latin girls, and even if she spoke to them, she would speak to them in English. She almost never spoke with Miss Venezuela Stefania Fernandez, and when she spoke to Stefania in English, Stefania would not understand. She behaved like a total bitch and said that the pageant had been a big waste of time.

7. Several Latin candidates were surprised by the lesbian tendencies of Miss Malaysia Joannabelle Ng who in more than one occasion made suggestive comments to Miss Mexico Karla Carrillo and to other Latin and European delegates.

8. Miss Serbia Dragana Atlija is a lesbian.

9. During the coronation ball which was not transmitted online as MUO had promised, hardly any member of the press paid attention to Miss Venezuela. The most sought-after by the press were Miss Australia Rachael Finch and Miss Puerto Rico Mayra Matos.

10. Miss Spain Estibaliz Ribade was a witness to Miss Dominican Republic Ada Aimee de la Cruz's bulimia during the last two weeks of the pageant. Ada would sit at the table with her friends, but she would disappear for one moment. And when Estibaliz went to her room, she began noticing the toilet was full of vomit. Ada induced her vomit and told Estibaliz that the food always made her sick. Estibaliz was a witness to all this.

11. Magali Febles, the national director of the Dominican Republic, was scolded by the MUO staff because she would enter places where she was not supposed to. Many people saw her on several occasions talking merrily with Paula Shugart. She was also seen telling everyone that MUO should respect her for everything that she has done for the organization. And to give Mayra a hard time, Magali brought a young woman with whom Mayra had competed in Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2009. This woman's name is Ida Ibarra who represented the town of Dorado. Magali paid for Ida's travel and hotel arrangements but bringing her did not make Mayra lose her focus.

12. There were several candidates who went out with the Miss Universe security staff (not the Bahamian security staff, but MUO's own security staff). Miss Croatia Sarah Cosic was seen many times coming out of her room and entering the room of a MUO security guy who is Latino.

13. Many candidates complained about the late-night parties that the Asian girls were having. The Asian girls were Misses Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. They would meet in one of the rooms to drink liquor until dawn.

14. Miss Mexico Karla Carrillo was very worried by what her national director Lupita Jones would tell her during their meeting. Karla said that she did not want to see Lupita because all throughout the pageant Lupita was pressuring her in a bad manner so she would qualify. Karla said that she's thinking of renouncing her Miss Mexico title because she can no longer stand Lupita's attitude.

15. Miss Dominican Republic and Miss Venezuela hung out a lot with each other and Miss Venezuela would tell her that she (Miss Venezuela) would be the winner.

16. Trump's favorites were Misses Croatia, Iceland, Switzerland, Sweden and Belgium.

17. After the coronation, the mother of Miss Dominican Republic began to yell. She was very bothered that her daughter did not win. Security staff had to calm her down and she was also seen insulting Magali Febles.

18. The candidates were told to leave the hotel as soon as possible.

I am sure there are more tales to come, so stay tuned! LOL!

Miss Dominican shouldve won!.... Firstly she shouldve scored higher than Miss Australia in Swimsuit. Dominican scored 9.189 when Australia had 9.264. Now In the Evening gown Australia got 9.029 and Miss Dominican got 9.428.

Overall
Dominican scored 18.62
Australia scored 18.30
Puerto Rico scored 17.6
France scored 17.3
Kosovo scored 18.04
Venezuela scored 17.6

Now TELL ME how a girl ranked last in Swimsuit and Evening gown out of the top 5 GET TO WIN... Yes her final answer was the best but FACTS show she shouldve got 2nd runner up.

NOW IS IT ME or WHICH COUNTRY IS HOSTING MISS UNIVERSE 2009... is it in Jamacia?

Now tell me if Im the only one who only saw Miss Bahamas TWICe during the show. It was during the announcement of all contestants, during the placement with a bulk of the contestants and during the evening gown dance. I mean Keira isnt not PEACH on the beach and AT LEAST GIVE HER A HONORABLE CLAPPER for being host. They all about showing beautiful miss Jamaica. ATLEAST SHE IS A HONORABLE CLAPPER.

Girls who didnt deserve to be in the top 15 are: These are TRUMP FAVORITES.
Albania
Croatia
Switzerland- very beautiful though
Sweden- Sasha Scott sister lol
Iceland- She was 50 50 among critics

Girls who got cheated or was in the playing field:
Mexico- chunky
Netherlands
Philippines- BODY needs some MINOR work
Jamaica- ahhhhhhh MAYBE
Honduras
Japan
Russia

And to all who say it was a cheat I couldnt agree with you but at least he crown a girl who was in the playing FIELD not like Gaynell did with KEIRA who wasnt even in the playing field

Miss Dominican Republic should have won and France should have been in the Top 5. How the heck did Albania get in the Top 15?. Miss Sweden looked like Sasha Scott. If Sasha had only had the right grooming last year she could have done well. Donald Trump said it was the Best Top 15 in 12 years and Miss Venezuela was obviously is choice. Miss Dominican Republic was robbed big time. Only a handful of girls came out to the Coronation Ball. That was poor sportsman ship even though some may have been tired.

The Chances of Miss Bahamas Universe?
http://missosology.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14089&p=386529&hilit=+Miss+Bahamas+Miss+Bahamas+Chances#p386529

I must say Keira Sherman gained my respect as a contestant of Miss Universe 09'. Before Miss. Universe I honestly felt Keira Sherman would rank as one of the WORST Miss BAHAMAS UNIVERSE EVER and very similar to Nadia Johnson and Trinere Lynes. I dont know what they did in CANADA but trust me Keira Sherman was one of the best Miss Bahamas Universe in a very VERY LONG TIME. Keira Sherman did a superb job despite her organization not helping her and a good much of Bahamians. My only problem with 5'6, average beauty Keira Sherman is her runway skills. I felt her evening gown was one of the best however she didnt bring the dress out like MOST CONTESTANTS. Miss Mexico, Miss Turks and Miss USA to name a few didnt have a beautiful gown like Keira but all had MEMORABLE CATWALKS. Keira did the best she couldve done and to me SHE EARNED MY RESPECT!.....As you can see only ONE NOTABLE PAGEANT WEBSITE have Miss Bahamas MENTIONED and ranked number 16. Also on Missology she is an alternative and I think solely because shes the hosting queens. Other than THAT GOOD JOB and I DONT EXPECT her to PLACE Top 15.

Subject: what will it mean if Gaynell still has the Miss Universe franchise 2010? What will it mean to Kiara, If Gaynell is no longer the franchise holder immediately following the Miss Universe Pageant 2009? If there is a NEW organization to franchise Miss Bahamas Universe should they start off fresh or continue with Gaynell's queen and Miss Bahamas Universe 2009 Kiara Sherman?

Subject: BAHAMAS – Kiara Sherman. The host delegate is undeniably attractive and has a trim figure. In a less than stellar batch like this one, she actually is in contention to make the Top 15. But I have a major beef with this lady—everything about her speech and her movement seemed studied and contrived. I just couldn’t find anything real or natural about her personality or stage presence, and her affected speech makes her sound totally insincere. Some Latina delegates over the years could get away with it, but I wonder if she could pull it off and make the so-called “host country cut” the way Vietnam did last year?

It's funny how I've observed the changes in this board over the past few months with regard to Kiara Sherman being the Miss Bahamas representative in the Miss Universe 2009.

The very same people who bad-mouthed her, are now the very same people who are supposedly her biggest supporters, and, who are refusing to accept any figment of truth.

The fact remains that hardly anybody was pleased with Kiara winning Miss Bahamas, and knowing Kiara, I can say that she is indeed a very sweet and charming girl at heart and did not deserve the ridicule that came slapping her in the face. Conversely, I am also a realist, and I know within my heart and logical thinking that Kiara was not the logical choice to win.

As Bahamians, it is fair for us to assess her performances thus far, and I think Kiara has surpassed all of our expectations and has done relatively well considering what she was provided (lackluster support from both Bahamians and Gaynell). However, we must also be cognizant of the fact that Kiara, although an attractive girl, is no competition for the top contenders in this competition, and that is simply fact, whether you want to admit it or not.

It is also a fact that Kiara would not have been given perhaps a first glance if she was not the host queen. I mean come on, it is not hard to admit this, and by saying otherwise, you are simply being either a. daft, or b. completely not in touch with the pageant world and its pre-requisites. In this vein, if Kiara does make the top 20, 10 or whatever it is, it is simply because she is the host queen, period.

I will re-iterate that Kiara is a very attractive girl with a sweet personality, but she is simply not Miss Universe material, albeit we can all debate on their standards and the overall standards of beauty, but that's a topic for another conversation.

We can and SHOULD all root and cheer Kiara on because she is Miss Bahamas, whether we like it or not. For this reason, Bahamians were wrong for the way they treated her and while it is our duty and civic right as Bahamians to voice our discern for the way we thought the pageant went, it sent a poor signal to the rest of the world that we couldn't voice our concerns differently and do it in a way that was not emotionally damaging or just outright mean to Kiara.

Anyway, as a first time poster, I think this has been long-winded enough, and as I expect, there will be the emotionally sensative, irrational people who will respond and undoubtly reprimand me heavily for simply stating the truth. So Farewell, this will be my first and last post.

Go Kiara! (For what it's worth)

My dear
as a first time poster you hit the nail on the head and said it with such maturity. I agree.I am saddend for Amanda Appleyard whom most people wanted to win and saddened for Kiara for all of her troubles. She has tried her best as you stated, yet we need to be realistic and know that she is not up to Universe standards and that any placement will be because the bahamas was a gracious host and will get a reward. and if people do not realize that then they are daft.
Thank you for a breath of fresh air

I must agree, the float parade was very dissapointing for me. It was late,, what else is new? The trucks and parade seemed very junky, the girls I know are very tired, I thought Kiara looked her best yet,but all in all not very professional at all.I am feeling like we will never be a professional country unless foreigners are brought in to do the work for us.Can't wait for MONDAY WHEN IT IS ALL OVER. ENOUGH ALREADY
Subject: PAGING: XOXO & TRUTH . . . were you'll out to the motorcade today? Let's hear you'll point of view. To me many of the girls were very lack-lustre while there were a few stunners ie: Jamaica, Costa Rica & Venezuela. What say you'll?
