The police chief and assistant chief were given raises. Not the Mayor and assistant mayor. Is there even an assistant mayor? As for the raises given…I disagree with the large lump sum raise and I disagree with the illegal way the mayor went about it. What was wrong with a reasonable raise? To put the raise in perspective, the police chief received a raise that would translate to over $12.74 an hour. The assistant chief received $12.98 an hour....that is in raise. Their hourly rate (if they were hourly and worked the national average of 2080 hours a year) would be Chief $43.27 and assistant chief $38.46 plus benefits. While those working the street, in the danger zone, are making about half of that. I hear a lot of "bad" things from certain people about Mike Lawrence, Jane Pope and Doug Taylor, but they are the ones that tried to stop this from happening. They hired an attorney over this and some other things that the administration had pulled. I have heard people talk bad about them for hiring the attorney to look into this. They "wasted taxpayer money" on the attorney....or did they? Their attorney costs were way less than these raises. I think the tax payers should have stood behind the three of them while they tried to save this money and a lot more. So far, I have only seen them vote to save the tax payers money. They have voted to stop illegal, immoral, and just plain stupid spending. Look at what this mayor and board of works are doing to the police force. The chief and assistant chief got a raise that totals more than the salary of the K-9 officer they are getting rid of. Lawrenceburg (the department that started the K-9 programs in Dearborn County) now has NO program. Their dogs are gone. Why not cut the raises, bring back the K-9's they gave up and get the department back to what it used to be....one of the best in the area. Right now it is the laughing stock of the area with a very over paid administration. Good going Lawrenceburg! Get rid of a 20+ year veteran officer, all your K-9 units, give huge undeserved raises and make yourself the laughing stock of the state! Maybe the council members who are doing this should stop and listen to those that they oppose. It appears that you are voting against them just out of spite and not doing what the citizens want or even what is in the best interest of the tax payers that voted you in. Why in your right mind would you approve raises like this and vote to fire a 20+ year police veteran that is respected in the community unless you were doing it out of spite?
