Subject: PAWS and Charities in D.C.

This is the season of giving. Pets don't celebrate religious holidays, nor do they need to provide for others as many families and charities do, and yet PAWS is the only charity County bends over backwards to ensure success.

The Chamber and Council could encourage assistance to other, more needy charities serving wider causes. PAWS has a good balance sheet. Most of the charities do not. PAWS has been given over 1 million dollars by County.

The County appears so busy justifying the grants for PAWS, and even soliciting for them, that they cannot give due attention to some of the other worthy charities who are in dire need. PAWS should not take this personally as they tend to do.

Ever consider the possibility that McCaleb told his attorney and his attorney helped him write the letter? We attorneys do things like that you know. Also, attorneys can't talk about what goes on in cases to defend themselves, nor can judges, nor can psychologists, because we are all protected by codes of ethics that require us to keep our clients or our patients secrets. With the exception of a criminal case such as this, there was no way that these judges, lawyers and psychologists and their families who had been harrassed by this man and his hangers on for years could ever let the public know the truth of the hell these types of people put them through. Brewington is the extreme of the extreme, but every attorney and mental health professional and judge has experienced this and most of us have had some genunine moments where we have feared for our lives or the safety of our families. I have a child considering law school and another one considering becoming a therapist. I really don't know why. My kid in the military may be safer.

You lawyers there in Dearborn don`t even realize what you have done!! Do you have any idea who or how many people are watching you, or do you even care! When people cant speak they`re minds then they act! Its not Dan hurting you, its your own actions, he just gave you the bait and you took it! Now he can help kids and family`s across the country! This case will make the books, makes no difference, or does it!! I know for a fact that prosecutors can offer lower time for people doing favors for them! Lets just hope these prosecutors don`t think they are immune from prosecution, because i can assure you they are not! What is public knowledge? What is private? What is a warrantless search? A person can stand in the street and look boldly in your window with a telescope and its public knowledge! Private would be doing it from on the property! Warrantless search is using PC programs to enter personal PC`s without identifiable probable cause! A prosecutor told me that the Attn. Gen. said he could do these things because who is going to prosecute them! So now that gives them free rein to do what they wish! Hearsay of course! Catch!! We the people will not stand for these actions! When fish get hooked sometimes they shake the hook out, just to be eaten by a bigger fish, some get put in the pan!! Dearborn lawyers Dan has you hooked whether you realize it or not, and you just sent a message to every veteran, soldier in this country and our allies that they are fighting or have fought for absolutly nothing, WE THE PEOPLE need to make an example of you, by imprisoning you, taking your family farm, and not giving you a chance to a fair trial, or maybe you could just jump from a bridge or do the public a favor and move to North Korea! In my humble oppinion the lawyers involved in this case are, i better not say, might get put in prison for five yrs. WHAT BLOOMING IDIOTS! JURY TOO!!

Arguments in the Andrew Conley sentencing appeal were heard by the Indiana Supreme Court Monday in South Bend.
Conley, now 19, was convicted of murdering his 10-year-old brother Conner in their Ohio County home in November 2009 when he was 17.
Lawyers for Conley argue that Ohio Circuit Court Judge James Humphrey wrongly weighed Conley's mental health when handing down a sentenced of life without parole after Conley pleaded guilty to murder in October 2010.
Those lawyers say three mental experts who analyzed Conley said he had mental illness. Prosecutors argued he was faking.
“So there was a thinking that ‘We need to give this juvenile a life sentence because we are Afraid that he’s a psychopath and if we don’t give him a life sentence he might come out and kill again,’ ” defense lawyer Leanna Weissmann told the Indiana Supreme Court, according to the Associated Press.

Now that city elections are over- is everyone happy?
East in Cincinnati got some fresh young faces on Council.
Some questions have been raised on this discussion page regarding monetary expenditures of taxpayer and casino(also taxpayer) money. Some more questions were raised regarding employees of a political entity running for office in that entity and keeping BOTH their job and their office if elected.
These types of questions have been raised for nearly all 16 years I have been watching county government, and yet our elected officials do NOTHING about it.
Printing the annual state board of accounts reports in the paper for each city and the county might help. Getting state law fixed on employees holding office would help.
Just some thoughts.

Dear Commissioner _ _ _,
You recently fixed something.
You took your young son's photo off of your facebook. The photo popped up people's facebooks with your name/titles and your son's vulnerable looking photo. It was possibly the most oddly inappropriate place you could put your son's photo depicted all by himself. I almost contacted you about it.
I publicly post this because officials need to use common sense if they want to maintain an expectation of certain privacies. You should not throw info. out there unless you want everyone trolling the internet to see it.

Dear Mr. Hughes,
Zoning already allows conditional use/variances with caveats allowing land owners to do just about anything AS LONG AS IT IS RESPONSIBLE (and sometimes even when it's not).
The land use plan might need updating, but many of us would like to see the professionals do this without any interference from those who might have profit motives and personal agenda. You are talking not only about your agenda, but about OUR community, and the future quality of the area.
You state you are concerned with "special interests" controlling the land use plan. What could be a more harmful "special interest group" than you or those who want to remove the objectivity of zoning and replace it with loopholes to get around a sensible plan, which is often at the expense of the community.
Strong Professional Zoning/planning is strong in every decent community you can find. I have seen the area headed in the right direction in recent years. Please let our zoning/planning do the jobs they are trained for!!
Bad planning leads to failed businesses, bad neighborhoods, empty buildings and unsuccessful strip malls. This describes some of the areas in our community. All this is costly to all of us.

An open letter to the voters of Greendale.

I will make this short and sweet as to not take of more of anyone’s time than is necessary. The city of Greendale needs new leadership, and it needs it now. Morale within our city departments is at an all time low and I implore you, the citizens of Greendale, to have the courage to make changes at the polls this November. The good old boy network has to come to an end. The question you must ask yourself is how you can justify the re-election of a Mayor that has the following in his immediate background:
Fact 1.) The sitting Mayor (Douglas Hedrick), and his appointed city attorney (Richard Butler), have several thousands of dollars of unpaid property taxes on several pieces of property. What would happen to you or me?
Fact 2.) The sitting Mayor and the city attorney have applied for and are in the process of receiving grant money in excess of $300,000 for a personal business venture . Can you not pay your property taxes on just one piece of property, and then be approved for this kind of handout?
Fact 3.) The city of Greendale has on several occasions taken legal action against businesses with an overreaching sign ordinance. Businesses are forced to fight frivolous legal actions. Businesses must ultimately recover these fees by charging a higher cost for goods and services. The City under the current administration has no respect for your individual property rights as a business owner in Greendale.
Opinion 1.) 12 years is too long for anyone period. Term limits should be imposed for the position of Mayor.
Opinion 2.) I have spoken to many people in the town of Greendale who have privately told me they want a change in leadership, but express genuine fear of reprisal if they voice their opinion too loud. Who in the hell wants to live like that?
I could go on and on about all of the inequities that have been bestowed upon the citizens of Greendale from the current administration, but if the above is not enough then I would have to question whether or not you even care or want change. The time to make the difference is right now. I hope that the people will reward themselves, and deliver swift, decisive, and honorable change this Tuesday.

Hello blog! I've been reading some of the things that have been posted and have tried to find out some answers but all I've gotten is the run around from council members, clerk-treasurer's office and different departments and more questions. Here are some that I would like answered, if anyone knows.
1. How and why is Mario Todd receiving a percentage of building costs for the event center?
2. Isn't he a councilman, the city construction manager and chairman of the city finance committee, wouldn't that create a conflict of interest?
3. Why are council members still allowed to be city employees? They would govern themselves...
4. How does the city manage its grant program?
5. What function does main street serve with all of the businesses that have closed?
6. Why doesn't the city help property owners with housing programs?
7. Why does the city give the majority of bids to a select group of companies?
8. Who will be hired from the city to work on the event center?
These are a few of the questions that need to be answered. I will be posting more now that I've found this board. I look forward to hearing answers.

I just read an e-mail of a citizen. You know, a taxpayer?? Citizen has been trying to reach Pros. office recently. Complaining that no one returns calls or messages and no one is available in the Pros. office. Does anyone know why?? Because they are too busy with the double duty of 2 pros. in a courtroom in their personal ego clash with Dan (due to poor management of a dissatisfied customer).
Oh yeh, the Sheriff's office has also been understaffed by one Sheriff, who saw fit to stay in Dan's courtroom for all minutes of all 5 days, even times he was not needed as a witness. Since he is named on a civil lawsuit, and it was within his interest to be there the entire time, could we ask that his pay be docked?
This office has also been known for not responding to citizens calls.

For the person that said 12 people made the choice to convict him. There where only six. So that tells me you we not there either. My sister happened to be part of that jury and she felt he was railroaded. I yet to find out why her opinion didn't count. She said they considered her to be an alternive. Was she? Was this a hung jury? I'm going to find out.

As I sit back and wonder how so much money is wasted by the local government and nobody is being held accountable for it. I look at city individuals who receive contracts (5 yrs) to take them past the incoming elected officials. I'm amazed at the grants and business loans that are given to family, friends and hidden business associates when the clerk-treasurer can't even give you the payment schedule of these public funds. So does this mean they don't have to pay them back? Ask yourself, what would happen if I stole thousands of dollars from my employer? That's what the following individuals have done and no legal consequences. It's public record but it has been swept under the rug by members of council and different boards. Here's the list:

On March 16, 2011, we requested Eugene B. Seitz, Board member, to refund $26,000, James Knippenberg, Board member, to refund $22,750, requested Steven Karsteter, Board member, to refund $22,675, David Lorey, Board member, to refund $21,750, William Haag, Board member, to refund $21,250, Dennis Richter, Board member, to refund $20,450 and Darrell Poindexter, former Board member, to refund $18,700 to the Lawrenceburg Conservancy District.

I look at council members who are directly and indirectly receiving funds from the new event center. No wonder it got approved so quickly. There a millions of dollars misplaced or in wrong accounts because of ineffective government and handling. We need state and federal law enforcement to take a look at our city government.

I see that PAWS is now going after the contributions to the County Shelter fund. It is not enough that they will receive $120,000 a year of our money. The contributions I made to the Shelter were made there specifically to not go to PAWS. They were made to go to the care of animals not the social club that helps animals along the way. Giving our contributions to PAWS takes money away from the needs of the Animal Control, which is still the county's responsibility. Animal Control needs trucks, equipment and supplies to do their job and the 97 fund should be retained for that. If PAWS fails, that fund will be critical for the County and Animal Control to continue.
