The "cliff" is feared to do a lot of harm, but if you look at all the stuff expiring, the "cliff" will impact the 1% and 2% more than others short term. Increased taxes on dividends, capital gains, reimplementing the alternate mim. tax, Inheritance tax, etc.. It just can't get much worse for this income level than the "cliff". I think since many congress fit into this upper income category, they are unlikely to allow it to happen. It's a poker game now I think, and the Republicans have to try to make it look good, even if they can't achieve everything that is expected of them as far as no increases.
