Well, it seems once again someone's name has helped them get out of being properly punished for crimes they were committing. The charges for this should have happened way before almost a year after the offense, the charges should've included dealing in a controlled substance however they probably didn't let the actual buy take place for that very reason. The story mentions no where that he ever even served any time in jail. WHY??? He got a plea deal on his first court appearance, really how often does that happen?? Never. The story mentions he has no prescriptions for any of the medications, but had purchased them from "a guy in the city", I call bluff on this. I think he's using the funeral home has a front. I know an individual who had a terminal illness and passed away at home and because this was expected the funeral home just came to their home to pick them up. Chances are good that someone with a terminal illness has a lot of pills such as the types named in this story, what would stop them taking them while there getting the body. Just a thought.

Do we have a "celebration" marking 1000 children/kids/babies being interviewed due to physical and/or sexual abuse. Instead of patting yourselves on the back, why not spend that time focusing on preventing and/or prosecuting those participating in the behavior in the first place? I find this to be sick and exploitative. Guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore, after all, these are the same people who had the nerve to have a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate a $11 million (at least this week...) jail expansion that many don't seem to want.

I've been watching, listening and reading a lot about the corrupt officials of local government but nothing seems to surprise me lately. A Lawrenceburg deputy clerk-treasurer has been removed for stealing over $30,000 but no charges have been file because she knows too much about the criminal activities of government officials. There are several lawsuits that the city is facing and several that they have already lost. These lawsuits are for millions of dollars. The FBI and State's attorneys have been interviewing local individuals and investigating the financial records of several business leaders, current and previous government officials and individuals who have received funds from Lawrenceburg. Dennis Carr was a terrible choice for mayor as he doesn't understand his duties or have the abilities to run the city. This is why he had to hire Grant Hughes as the "mayor's assistant." Until we get someone to truly investigate the thefts, corruption and scandals in Lawrenceburg, nothing will change. I also think our local newspaper is afraid to print anything negative because of the funds they receive from the city. We need clear leadership and this group is not getting it done.

I feel for Mr. Brewington. I'm quite surprised that Negangard has not found other charges, that he knows are not valid, to tack on. I have seen defendants come to court and not know until they get there that unfounded additional charges have been filed against them. I have seen several cases of obvious intimidation on the part of the prosecutors office and as Negangard is the head of the department, ultimately by him. There is no fair and equitable justice in Dearborn County courts.(With one exception, Judge Cleary does not appear to subscribe to the tactics used by Negangard. He also appears to object to attorneys being assigned to cases for which the attorneys have no experience.)
The long and the short of it is that until people band together and file complaints with the Judiciary Committee, vote these people out of office and collectively exercise their right to free speech(rationally), the powers that be in Dearborn County will continue to abuse their authority and the citizens that live here.

Greendale, Ind.) – Federal prosecutors want to see the records of the City of Greendale.
Last week, the Greendale Clerk-Treasurer Mary Jo “Joey” Lynch, Mayor Doug Hedrick, and City Council President Al Abdon each received a grand jury subpoena in United States District Court in Indianapolis.
U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett requests the city turn over loan and grant records ranging from today through January 1, 2007.
The records will encompass the city, the Greendale Redevelopment Commission, the Greendale Economic Redevelopment Commission, and the Greendale Board of Works. The loan and grant documents requested in the subpoena include a summary list of all loans and grants, application documentation, approval documentation, promissory notes, disbursement records, and payment records
The subpoena commands that the clerk-treasurer submit the documents at the U.S. Courthouse in Indianapolis on Tuesday, June 18 at 9:00 a.m.
Lynch told Eagle 99.3 Thursday that she received the subpoena last Friday, June 7. She said she and her staff are now working to have the documents ready by the deadline.
“It’s a lot,” Lynch said, referring to the copious amounts of documentation requested.
It is unclear what the federal authorities may be investigating. Lynch said she had no idea why the documents are being requested for a federal grand jury.
The City of Lawrenceburg received a similar subpoena last December. It contained very similar language in asking for copies of the city’s grant and loan records dating back to 2007, indicating that the two subpoenas could perhaps be related to the same investigation.
Thursday afternoon phone calls to Mayor Doug Hedrick and City Attorney Richard Butler seeking comment were not returned.

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) -
An FBI agent served a grand jury subpoena on the mayor of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and other city leaders seeking documents related to loans and grants awarded between 2007 and the present, FOX19's investigative team confirms.
Holding a copy of the subpoena, first term Lawrenceburg City Councilman Mike Lawrence tells FOX19 the city council resident and town treasurer were also served.
Lawrence welcomes the federal investigation saying he "thought it was illegal" the way Lawrenceburg leaders "awarded millions and millions of dollars" in the past without a city ordinance allowing them to do it and without any guidelines, he said.
The records the grand jury seeks must be delivered to the federal courthouse in Indianapolis by 9 a.m. on Jan. 24.
Lawrence says it's his understanding an Indiana State Police investigator and IRS investigator accompanied the FBI agent when he delivered the subpoena last Thursday.
Lawrenceburg City Council will meet in special session at the City Building tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in what Lawrence says was originally supposed to be a meeting about awarding more grants. But he says he plans to "put the brakes on" and hopes other city council members will, as well, in light of the federal investigation.
FOX19 also called Mayor Dennis Carr for comment. A woman who answered the phone said he was unavailable but that someone from the mayor's office would likely get back with us.

Wondering why they chose to prosecute or fire a professional police officer for being somewhere one time in uniform where he should not have been? Did he miss a 911 call or something I am not aware of?? Yep, I know that the law is the law, but common sense should be a part of using it wisely. I guess some people thought prosecuting might be a great stunt and get this Officer out of their face and prevent him from serving on Council. As a taxpayer, I am tired of the petty and childish things I see that are just a ridiculous waste of time and public money. Doesn't this officer have a boss who should have simply called him on the carpet, docked his pay or done what any rational, fiscally responsible organization would have done to fix it? Our County has demonstrated too many times that it is too arbitrary and sometimes show no common sense in what they pursue and who they go after. I cannot imagine the cost to replace a seasoned, experienced law officer for what looks like some really ridiculous political angling or personal problems. Others have done the same thing Doug Taylor has and worse. This is hypocrisy at it's best. By the way, I don't know Doug Taylor personally, I'm just talking common sense here. As for all the Council matters-I'm uninformed. I do think when there is a closed door to the public, it needs to be opened.

Where do you begin to change it? We can blame the lawyers all we want, but the fact of the matter is that they aren't the ones laying the ground rules the judges and Fuhrer Negangard are. If your options are taking a lopsided plea deal or taking your case to trial, where losing gets you a max sentence from the judges, that's the definition of a no-win.

These things said, anyone that thinks Negangard or Humphrey wouldn't win in a landslide if the election was today is fooling themselves. Look at Blankenship and her election. She's just as much of a joke as those two and she won handily against what appeared to be good opposition. I'm afraid that locals have the opinion that until it happens to them, they aren't going to concern themselves with it. Sad, and I'd love to more optimistic, but I just don't know what you do.

" There is indeed two major aspects to this story. One being what most would consider the wording in Indiana’s code and the other being the heavy handed and somewhat vindictive nature of a small town legal system that boasts the most extreme sentences in the state and a frequently overcrowded jail just twenty years old with a proposed expansion strongly advocated for by the very same Prosecutor Negangard."- Bimrose

"This type of scenario should horrify anyone reading this story. Our government officials must be held accountable. Anyone who chooses to serve the public, is elected by the public, or is paid by the State must expect and tolerate being berated by the public.
Is it really wise to allow those who have so much power in our community the power to imprison people who expose them to "hatred, contempt, disgrace, or ridicule"? Dissent, particularly when justified, is seen by many in the United States as our patriotic duty.
A world where the people are afraid to speak for fear of imprisonment is a world where the people in power have the ability to quell protest and ensure that injustices performed by the state are hidden."- Bimrose
