I have heard from his mouth and from his friend's that the reason he is running to to get rid of the people in the office. I was even told that the reason behind it was they thought the current staff was rude. I think the rude part comes from some things that were handled wrong by the first responders and the Coroner told them the proper way to do it. If you can't be corrected for your mistakes without calling people names, you are not going to do well in the coroner's position. You are seeing people at their worst. If you can't be firm and deal with the people, then you will never make it. If you can't take people yelling at you, you will never make it. I have never been involved with the office, but I have seen the way people act. I can only imagine what the responding coroner hears and sees. Have county officials received any complaints about the current staff?

There was also comments made about how long it takes the staff to respond. You change your staff to people located mostly in the Bright area, and you will end up with and even longer response time. The vehicles have to be housed at the County building. The responding coroner has to drive to the lot next to the jail, pick up a vehicle and then respond. The only thing that could change response times is to give a vehicle to each person on the team to take with them where ever they go. I also know that the one person that is being considered by Callahan as Chief Deputy is the last one I would even keep on staff.

As for the bashing and the insulting, what about sign stealing, calling in false stories to the radio, lies, etc. I am amazed by it all as well. While this office is an elected office, it is NOT a political office. All coroner staff are out in the field and in the line of fire. There are dangers to the position that are not faced by other offices. I personally would not fight for an office that could take me out of my full time job due to injury or illness. I am only putting my two cents worth in because I personally have been told that the goal is to clean house and bring in his friends. This was said by a friend. Was it true? I don't know, but I do know that I have heard him say he wanted to get rid of the staff that has been in place for years. The fact that he started talking to current staff about staying only after he found out about the laws surrounding the office, says a lot to me.
