Subject: Voting Records speak louder than words

This being another big election year we have many candidates to research at the local level. There has been numerous occasions to meet the candidates and hear them speak. I for one have not been able to go to all of them as I am busy raising a family like everyone else. We have many candidates that have held several different positions in this local government or have served on various government boards and councils. I try to make my decisions based on as many facts and factors I can learn about them. These candidates that so proudly tout all the various boards they have served on should have a voting record on that service. Why don't they campaign(especially) the incumbents on their voting records? Why is it that we don't blog about verifiable facts like a voting record? And ask the challenging candidate how they would have voted and why? The big issues around here seem to always elude public disputation. Shouldn't the candidates stand by their record of service and be held accountable for why they voted a certain way on a controversial issue? Questions for the incumbents should be largely based off their votes to give us a good objective reason to re-elect them if we the people feel they voted in our best interest. Many in this county feel that the elected ARE NOT REPRESENTING us they are in it for themselves. Well, lets get the voting records out and see who voted for the jail expansion and who didn't. Who voted for the Event Center and who if anyone was against it. I listened to one Commissioner Candidate's flypod interview and he was obviously qualified with the right education and experience but no mention of his voting record and or no mention of what specific impact his service on all these boards he has been on has had. It makes one beg the question why should I vote for you? Your statement about all the "great" work that has been done with redevelopment board? Ok, great now what great work was he referring too? What specific project or deal has positively impacted us? I am sure there ARE positive impacts but I'd like them to articulate the impacts. What objective data did they use to base their decisions on votes they made?

Arguably the most important factor in voting for one's own representation is the character factor. Someone with a strong character that is honorable, honest, principle not political, firm but fair-minded should be of the highest regard. I know for me personally that is how I vote.(on character, experience, and education.)One way to discern a candidates character is taking a look at his campaign donors, because it is true birds of a feather DO flock together. Anyone can talk a good talk but a voting record speaks louder than words.
