Sounds to me like an extra crossing guard and expanded hours would be fine. After all, how much "authority" does it take to blow a whistle and wave your arms around? If you want a police officer there, I can see a new Garry sponsored tax bill in the works to pay him (yes, or her), what would probably be at least $50/hour to blow said whistle and wave those arms.

Before anyone gets all huffy on me for belittling police officers, ask yourself how many times you've seen them at work sites, more interested in looking at the big hole in the ground or drinking coffee with the work crew while you sit there not sure if you should proceed or not. I always love that "authoritative" half wave as you drive on by.
