PBR fan favorite Ryan Dirteater (Hulbert, Okla.) will not compete at the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals due to an injury sustained at the Mohegan Sun Invitational in Uncasville, Conn.; therefore, no. 41 man Elliott Jacoby (Fredericksburg, Texas) will compete in his place. Additionally, five riders have qualified as alternates. They are: Billy Robinson (Galax, Va.), Reese Cates (Carthage, Texas), Clayton Baethge (Johnson City, Texas), Mike White (De Kalb, Texas), and Dusty Ephrom (Arcola, SK, Canada).

For a fourth year, the top bull riding superstars from all of the international tours have qualified to compete in the first three rounds of competition. If any of the international qualifiers earn enough money to break them into the top 40 in the world standings, based on money, they will progress into the second weekend of the Finals. PBR Australia, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico will be sending the no. 1 rider in their standings. David Kennedy (Kyogle, AUS) will be the PBR Australia representative; Zane Lambert (Westbourne, MB) will represent PBR Canada; Edimundo Gomes (Brazil) will ride for PBR Brazil; and Gustavo Pedrero (Jalisco, MEX) will be the PBR Mexico rider.

The PBR World Finals consists of eight rounds of competition. The first seven rounds feature the top 40 riders randomly matched against the sport’s toughest bulls. The top 15 riders based upon their total cumulative scores after seven rounds will qualify to compete in one final decisive round of competition, which will take place at the conclusion of the seventh performance on Sunday, November 8.

The rider with the highest total score on eight bulls will earn the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals event title. The PBR World Finals event winner should not be confused with the PBR World Champion. The 2009 PBR World Champion will be the rider who totals the most Built Ford Tough Series points throughout the course of the entire season including the PBR World Finals. Both the 2009 World Champion and World Finals event winner will be named on Sunday, November 8.

Additionally, the PBR is excited to announce its bullfighting and judging crews for the 200 PBR World Finals. Each was selected by the top 40 bull riders – one of the highest honors in professional bull riding.

The 2009 PBR World Finals Dickies DuraBullfighters are Shorty Gorham (Cotulla, Texas), Frank Newsom (Saratoga, Olka.), Joe Baumgartner (Red Bluff, Calif.), and Jesse Byrne (Prince Albert, SK, Canada). Darrell Diefenbach (Azle, Texas) was selected as the alternate.

The 2009 PBR World Finals Judging Team is made up of Jim Bob Custer, Lane Foltyn, Chuck Lambert, Bill Pacheco, and Jeff Shearer who will be the replay judge.

I'm still bummed that I won't be there this year. To any of you that are going, have a great time and be safe.
