PBR fans chose Moraes to be the subject of the statue that stands in front of the PBR headquarters in Pueblo, Colo.
ROSE HILL, Kan. — The only three-time world champion in the history of the Professional Bull Riders organization has gone from rider to teacher.

Brazilian Adriano Moraes will put on a bull riding and bullfighting school June 22-24, 2009, at the Bud Sankey Ranch in Rose Hill, Kan. Moraes will bring his laser-like focus to the task of teaching students how to ride bulls. And, if anyone's capable of creating great bull riders, it's the man who worked his way up the rodeo ladder from regional rodeos in Brazil to world championships in the PBR, says Lyle Sankey, president of Sankey Rodeo schools.

"It's unbelievably incredible for me to have Adriano as part of this school," said Sankey, National Finals Rodeo qualifier in bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and bull riding.

"We are very selective whom we work with, and we seek out high character, quality people who certainly care about the kids they work with" Sankey said.

"And now we're working with the only three-time champion in the PBR's history. Adriano's character is one of the best, and he has helped so many others in his career. His foundation (Adriano Moraes for Kids) is to help kids, to help people have a better life. Those are just some of the reasons I'm excited he's involved."

Now living in east Texas, Moraes got his start as a bull rider more than two decades ago, and, with his three world titles in the PBR, has become something of a folk hero in his native Brazil. Moraes won the average twice at the NFR, was one of only three people in history to ride all 10 bulls in the finals and became the very first PBR World Champion in 1994. He won two more gold buckles in the PBR, in 2001 and 2006.

Along with Justin McBride, Moraes retired from competitive bull riding at the conclusion of the 2008 season, proclaiming his love for the sport.

The class — tuition is $475 with a $100 deposit due 14 days prior to opening day — will have limited enrollment but is available to students of any skill level, including professional cowboys.

"This is going to be the most fun Adriano's ever had at a rodeo school," Sankey said. "We have a great staff that will take care of everything so he can focus on spending time with the students."

Veteran bullfighters Joe Garretson and Bennie Bob Patrick will also teach classes in keeping riders safe.

Joe Garretson has twice qualified for the Professional Bullfighters Daisy Protection Bullfight World Finals and finished the 2007 season as the reserve world champion. He has been named the 2008 Bullfighter of the Year in the Professional Championship Bullriders organization. The tuition for the bullfighting portion of the school is $425, with a $100 deposit due 14 days prior to the opening day. Like the bull-riding classes, the bullfighting school has limited enrollment.

"This is just a good opportunity for anyone who wants to learn to be a bull rider or a bullfighter," Garretson said. "If you're already doing it, you can really take the next step through these classes.

Sankey Rodeo Schools' mission is to "educate cowboys and potential cowboys in the skills it takes to compete in the rough-and-tumble sport of rodeo."

My most sincere apologies, I had the scores for myself messed up.....I didn't realize that Aaron Roy was at the event, thought he had gotten cut so my points for the event should only read 550 and my total points should be 6575. You guys will have to forgive me, life has been more than crazy for me for the last 3 weeks...lots of stress...
Howdy's total points are 6100 putting her just ahead of Hoffy in the standing.

Yes, we typically wait until after the first event after the cut is over so people can get a better glimpse of who's going to be on tour.

Please feel free to make trades now if you would like however they will not become effective until after this weekend's event. Hope that helps! : )

Flint -- Kris, Thu, Mar 12 2009, 16:44:12 [1]

PBR Entertainer Suffers Mild Heart Attack
Recuperating in a Montana hospital MEDIA CONTACT:
Katharine Sherrer
Public Relations Manager
719.242.2800, ext. 3372 office
katharine@pbrnow.com

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 11, 2009) - Flint Rasmussen, PBR’s world-class entertainer, suffered a mild heart attack at his home in Choteau, Mont., this morning. He was airlifted to Great Falls, Mont. Rasmussen had blockage in two main arteries, but there was no permanent damage to the heart.

Rasmussen is resting comfortably in the Intensive Care Unit and although tired from the ordeal, maintains his unique sense of humor with hospital staff and family. “Right now, my focus is on my health and my family,” Rasmussen said from the hospital. “I plan to get back to work as soon as possible.”

A fixture on the PBR’s Built Ford Tough Series for nine years, Rasmussen lives with his wife, Katie, and two daughters, Shelby Rae and Paige. As the official entertainer of the PBR, he keeps the crowd alive during lulls in the action or commercial breaks. He sings, dances, performs skits, and even goes into the audience at each performance to shake “it” with his adoring public.

“First and foremost, we wish Flint a speedy recovery,” said Randy Bernard, Chief Executive Officer of the PBR. “His health and well-being is our number one concern right now. He is truly a staple of the PBR and we will miss him until he gets back on his feet, but in no way do we want him to hurry this. This is a very serious situation and we want Flint to listen to his doctors and follow their instructions and advice.”

Here is wishing Flint a very speedy and full recovery! You'll be in our prayers, Flint.

Happy Friday everyone! I’m sorry this posting is so late. I have been really down and out with this bout of bronchitis. Today I almost feel human, though. St. Louis was great. It’s always nice to see friends that you don’t get to see often enough. Debbie, Pattie, Glen, Stan, Roxie, Robyn and I all had the pleasure of having lunch with Guilhereme, Robson, Valdiron, Renato and McKennon on Saturday. What a fun bunch to hang out with, I think for the most part we all laughed more than we ate. That lunch was the first time I’d really had the opportunity to sit and talk to McKennon, what a nice young man. His parents must be very proud of him. For those of you that have not been to St. Louis, you should go, even if the PBR isn’t there. What a beautiful city! There is so much amazing architecture there and the history….tons of history in this city. I’m hoping the maybe next spring me and my family can take a long weekend trip to St. Louis and go sight-seeing. I should have some pictures from St. Louis to share with you all next week. Have a great weekend!

Jewel out of Dancing With The Stars -- Beckie, Fri, Mar 06 2009, 5:41:06 [1]

Well, as many of you know I have been having trouble with my knees after rehearsing long hours for Dancing With The Stars. The doctors thought I had tendonitis, but when I wasn't feeling better after some rest, I decided to get an MRI. When I heard the results I was in utter disbelief. The doctors told me that not one, but both of my legs were fractured!! He said my left one was particularly bad, and that I had to not only stop dancing, but stop walking and use crutches!!! He said I had just over done it with the rehearsals and training over the past few weeks and so my muscles became fatigued and transferred the overload of stress to the bones in my leg - causing the stress fractures! He says that type of injury can happen when athletes step up the amount or intensity of their training. Typical me- I throw myself 1000% into anything I do- that's how I went from being homeless to where I am today- but I just had no idea I could over-do dancing!

Shock does not begin to describe it. I am heartbroken to say I will not be competing in this season of Dancing With the Stars. I'm sad I won't get to go through the rest of the experience competing with my husband, Ty. I don't really know what to say. I am sad and mad and disappointed and just blown away at all that has happened. I also feel particularly upset for my partner Dmitry. This is his first season on the show and he put so much work and thoughtful effort into training me. I really wanted America to see what a great dancer, choreographer and teacher he is. This wasn't the way I wanted to go, but my health must come first. And so it is with regret I will not be able to compete this season, but I will be there to cheer my husband on every step of the way- he will just have to dance for the both of us now!

The good news is that my doctors say with rest and care, I will recover completely with no long-term damage. I hope I will be able to come back and compete on the show another season after my injury heals and get the chance to team up with Dmitry once again to show America our cha-cha!

Betting -- Jeannie P., Mon, Mar 02 2009, 19:38:42 [2]

Just wondering what your thoughts are on the "betting" of various ride/bulls on national TV? The PBR has worked hard to keep their association "professional", still sang with pride the National Anthem and say a prayer before each event, so do you think they really want to allow betting/gambling on bulls, riders, etc?
Just curious as to what your thoughts are on this subject.

Yes, Dustin Elliott is very polite and nice! The OKC event was great, how about the Oklahoma boys????!!
I know its early but here's something to think about, the Gold Coast and the Orleans has DROPPED their prices for the 2009 PBR package. I've talked to the Gold Coast and they have assured me that nothing but the price has changed! I sure hope so because the main reason we stay at the Gold Coast is because of their seats, we've sat in Section 106 for the past 10 years, the seats are great!

Hello every! I just wanted to let everyone know that my husband surprised me for valentine's day and took me to the ct. event in Saginaw. It was a good bullriding. Here is some of the guys that were there. Evan and Cory Rasch, Tony Mendes, Harve Stewart, Pistal Robinson, and Reese Cates, Craig Sasse and Colby Yates just to name some of the top cowboys there.

The winner of the Friday night event was Chase Inman, he scored on his first bull Ding A Ling 88.5.He made it into the championship round and scored 89 points. There were a few good rides. Toney Mendes covered his bull Calamine but only got a score of 78 points. It was really nice to see Tony ride. Congrats to Chase Inman!
I have to say that my husband gave me a great V-day gift. Just thought I would share with all of you.

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 9, 2009) - ABC has announced today that PBR co-founder and “King of the Cowboys” Ty Murray (Stephenville, Texas) will be one of thirteen celebrities competing on Season 8 of the hit TV show, “Dancing with the Stars.” The season kicks off on Monday, March 9, where Murray and his professional dance partner will compete against other celebrities to see who will be the newest “Dancing with the Stars” champion. Twelve other stars will join the seven-time World Champion on the dance floor, including his singer-songwriter wife, Jewel; actress Denise Richards; and NFL legend Lawrence Taylor.

Greg Potter Retires -- Kris, Tue, Feb 10 2009, 16:16:43 [1]

Potter hangs it up
Popular Aussie veteran retires after neck injury

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 9, 2009) - “I’m going to hang my spurs up and call it quits.”

Those were the words of Greg Potter, who, after 19 years of riding professionally, finds it difficult to say the word “retirement.” Potter made the announcement in a podcast posted at www.pbr.tv.

“It still puts a lump in my throat,” he said, “and fills up a tear in my eye when I think about it.”

The popular rider was injured in Sacramento when he landed on his head after being bucked off his second round bull. Dr. Tandy Freeman had listed Potter on the PBR injury report as being out for an undetermined length of time.

However, after the two spoke on Friday, Potter talked it over with his wife Jodie and the two decided it was better for the Australian native to err on the side of caution.

“We decided this will be the end of the road for me,” said Potter, who went to say, “I think it’s the right choice for my family and my kids and that.

“Things like this, you’ve been doing it all your life, I’ve been riding bulls now for 19 years, and when it comes to a sudden end like this it’s a difficult thing to take.”

The 37-year-old, 19-year veteran noted that the neck injury won’t require surgery.

A specialist had pointed that his neck is no longer shaped “the way it is supposed to be” and that because of some missing cartilage, there are some bone-on-bone issues along with a laundry list of other potential problems.

The specialist did inform the father of two daughters that if he elected to return, he would be ready as soon as six weeks from now. According to Potter, Freeman advised him against returning.

“If I chose to come back and landed on my head again,” Potter explained, “there are a few things in there that put me at a greater risk for worse damage.”

His latest injury occurred just four events into his return after sitting out more than six months with a torn rotator cuff.

Potter competed in parts of 12 seasons on the Built Ford Tough Series. He rode in 181 events and posted five event wins. His best statistical seasons came in 2004 and 2005 when he finished the season ranked 5th and 8th in the world standings.

He said that his greatest memories would be qualifying for seven PBR World Finals.

“We’re going to hang around here until the end of the year or maybe early next year,” said Potter, who is hoping to transition into producing and promoting PBR events in Texas, “before we head back to Australia.”

PBR Press Release - Kasey Hayes -- Kris, Tue, Jan 20 2009, 16:36:32 [3]

Conduct Committee Makes Decision on Kasey Hayes' Actions MEDIA CONTACT:
Professional Bull Riders, Inc.
Public Relations Department 719.242.2800

PUEBLO, Colo. (January 19, 2009) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) Conduct Committee reviewed the action taken by bull rider, Kasey Hayes (Liberal, Kan.) at the PBR’s 2009 Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) stop in Sacramento, Calif. During round two of the Sacramento Classic on Sunday, January 18, Hayes was bucked off the bull, Blind Date, owned by Red Knection Bucking Bulls, and threw his facemask at the bull immediately after the buck-off. The bull was hit on the side of the body and was unharmed.

The Conduct Committee decided that Hayes will be fined $7,500 and will make a public apology during PBR’s next VERSUS broadcast. Furthermore, he will have to enroll in an anger management program and if he does not complete it, he will be suspended for three Built Ford Tough Series events.

The PBR believes that there are two great athletes in every eight second ride---the rider and the bull---and are fully committed to ensuring the much deserved health, safety, and respect of each bull that enters a PBR Arena. To mistreat a bull would be a detriment to the sport upon which a bull rider’s own livelihood depends. Therefore, the care and treatment of PBR’s animal athletes is a top priority to those who govern and/or participate in PBR events.

******We would love to hear your thoughts on this.*****

Wow! I seen what Kasey did and thought it was wrong on his part to throw it directly at the bull. I think the PBR board was right in fining Kasey and for him to apoligies. On the other hand anger managment class is alittle harsh. I have seen guys get really mad after a buck-off and hit the gates with there fits and throw there ropes in back of the chuts.I understand that the PBR is trying to make a point out of what Kasey did, so that it will never happen again. I hope that Kasey has learn a lesson and will not take his anger out on any living being.

[> [> Re: PBR Press Release - Kasey Hayes -- Beckie, Fri, Jan 23 2009, 4:37:38 [1]

I think they are setting a example with him that should have been done a long time ago..But its one thing to show emotions in the arena but I feel the camera shouldn't follow the guys behind the chuts and sometimes all the way to the locker room.
Kacey should be fined but for just throwing and hitting the bull...if they start sending guys to anger managment classes then they better start lining them up.

A little harsh! ...my 2cents.

good topic..how do you guys feel??

[> Host Hotel Info for NYC -- Kris, Thu, Jan 08 2009, 17:10:08 [1]

Did you guys see this hotel information for NYC?

New York Marriott Marquis
Address: 1535 Broadway New York, NY 10036
Rates: $269.00
Cut Off Date: 12/17/08
Phone: 800-843-4898
Notes: PBR Fans, Reservations at the Marriott Marquis are available through the PBR travel department at the group rate, contact Rita at 719-242-2800 ext 3444 for your reservation.

That's right, $269.00 a night! That is insane, you can stay at the Belagio or Mandalay Bay for those prices. Must be one heck of a hotle. Easy to figure out why a working girl like me won't be in NYC for the PBR this weekend. LOL!
