Subject: REMEMBERING....

I posted this on Bruce's site and thought I'd share it hear too... It was a response to the following...

I couldn't think of a description for a "die-hard" fan when it was the topic on the now defunct (RIP) site, but I can now. The die-hard fan is the one who doesn't lose interest and continues to follow the PBR through its lopsided season and even watches reruns (though Challenger events would be more interesting). We die-hards prefer more not less.

This was my post...

I used to be that "die hard fan".

I remember the days when not only telecasts were months away... results were too. I used to tape the events and watch them over and over.

Unfortunately, the recent events have not been that good, the 1st time around, so I haven't wanted to watch a repeat. I really don't enjoy buck offs. I like RIDES, RIDES, RIDES -- 90+!!!!!!!

There were very few events that one of my "gang" was not in attendance. We posted results on various websites immediately following an event.

I remember sleeping with my phone so I could get the call with results and to let me know everyone was OK.

I remember getting the call when GlenK was killed in Alb. I did not know Glen, but there was always that chance that the next phone call would be about someone I did know. I remember seeing Gilbert break his neck in Nashville.

I remember Louisville, KY in 1999 -- the first BLC for Justin, RossC, Danny Varnadore, Trent Amedee, and Dusty Labeth. Danny rode Hollywood for 93 points.

I remember Bubba Dunn on Promiseland in Tampa, FL in 1999 for 96.5. The best ride EVER!

I remember 1999 Finals Round 2... "the most incredible bullriding EVER!" If you haven't seen it, borrow a tape. One of my favorite rides was Ty on Red Wolf for 95...

Dang... 1999 was a great year for PBR highlights!!!!!!

I miss Red Wolf, Promiseland, Moody Blues, Locomotive Breath, and Hollywood.

Unfortunately, my favorite bullriders and bulls have either retired... or died.

To me.. the bullriding itself is just not as good -- too many buckoffs and not enough great rides.

Nice post Tracy!! I agree 110%...I still love Bullriding but so much has changed since those days. I just love to see good bullrides... Getting to know some of the cowboys along the way has been a plus! I guess everybody has their own reasons for liking the sport..
