My first ship was out of Cardiff, the next out of Swansea, etc. Each shipping line picked men up from a pool of men in each port, and you could be payed off in any port in the UK. There was no pension scheme that I know of unless your father was a Company man,which would show on his discharge book by the names of the ships being similar. The ships under the British Govt would have been during the war if he went from 1937 to 1950, He would have been entitled to war service medals, you can find out with enquires at the National Archives at the Public Records Office Kew.
