Date Posted: 26/04/08 5:33am Yesterday was Anzac day here in Oz and as uaual the marches and parades took place all over the nation. Due to circumstances I was unable to attend the march here in Melbounre but watched the t.v. coverage. This year the M.N. contingent was bigger than in previous years but my biggest surprise was the comments from the comentator. He spoke of the numbers of australian merchant seamen lost during the wars, 1 in 8 of all Australian combatants, and though it is well below that of the U.K. it waS stil significant. Two days prior I recieved a letter from the minister for Veterans Affairs and he informs me that the bill to declare September 3rd as M.N. day here is in its first draught. He has promised to keep me updated on the progress. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
