When I was on one of Corys Coasters, used to anchor of Woolwich, as I was watch on board used to scull the rest of the crew ashore in the jolly boat, bastard of a job when the tide was running, sweat when I think of it now. When we used to berth in Tilbury with Hains, I used to go across to Gravesend on the ferry for a beer. Never thought the girl I would meet and marry on the way out to NZ would be from Gravesend.
