If you can call it that.
I posted this before, but it bears repeating-you can't put too much thought into this lottery this year. First of all, this once again is totally new judging. We don't even have an "evening gown" competition any more. Plus, there are two nights of groups instead of three. To me, two out of the three judged competitions are crapshoots. Anyone can prepare a "sales pitch". So, it's basically about talent and a bit about interview slots. I have to hand it to Eileen Kim-she made a bold move that may have knocked out some of the best competition in Alpha. She is immediately ahead of Georgia and Hawaii. North Carolina and Utah are also reported to have strong talents. That was one of the gutsiest and bold moves I've seen in a lottery. Way to go! There will be some other good talents in Alpha. The ones to look for are Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma, California, Georgia, Hawaii, North Carolina and Utah. There may be some other good ones in there as well that I haven't seen yet. Mu, not so much. I think one of the stronger ones in talent could and should have put themselves in Mu if they had a good spot. I would say that Virginia would have a strong chance at a talent win, they liked it when VT did it a few years ago. Also with strong talent in Mu is Minnesota and New Jersey.
As far as picks, I think Alaska made a bad choice, and Oregon got very lucky. Despite all of these changes, I still would not want to be the first one interviewing, especially only with two groups. She could have picked Alpha 1 and picked Mu 1. You are REALLY going to have to stand out in interview after two long days. I think with this format, you can easily be forgotten.
As to who this benefits, very hard to say. I don't think it even matters anymore.
