Subject: THOUGHTS ABOUT TONIGHT

Full post tomorrow when I can run down everything. But for right now, I wanted to share my initial thoughts on tonight. Ironically, I am watching Seinfeld and the one where Kramer coached Miss Rhode Island is on. At least nobody's doves were murdered, and the real Miss Rhode Island is a much better singer ;) But I was really proud of Caroline. This is the second highest placement for Miss Rhode Island ever. The only higher placement was 3rd runner-up in 1968. I think she would have been a wonderful winner.

This was a tremendous top 3. I could have made a case for each of them, and also Rhode Island. I am still a bit mystified how KY got so high as opposed to some of the others. I have to give a shoutout to Kansas. I am still waiting on the People's Choice announcement, but I have a feeling she was it. If so, she really stepped it up tonight. She did overall better than some of the contestants in the top 10.

I think I liked everything but the Q&A. They were not balanced. There were some very easy questions and then there were some which were darned near impossible to answer. New York actually silenced the crowd. Ellie was asked about terrorism; MD about climate change. Some answered by tying their platform in like AR, but it didn't make sense.

It really was nice to have traditional categories back. The host was really overdoing it; the hostess was good but they seemed a bit green and maybe didn't play well off of each other. The best host we've had in the past couple years we've had was Laura Rutledge.

I will run down the full pageant tomorrow. Overall, I felt very satisfied at the end of the night with the pageant. It felt like we had real pageant. Sometimes it helps when you follow the young women throughout their pageant careers. Of course, then you feel sad when they do everything they possibly could and fall just short of their dream.

More tomorrow! Please post any thoughts you have in the meantime.
