Subject: I guess then why raise the age if most of the contestants are out of school? I do not understand any of this. Years ago Miss America was even allowed to purchase things for herself. For example, Tawny Godin bought herself a piano. (She played it for talent, so I guess she had a case for it) If you think about the $10k for the runner-up and that's it, they could easily sink that into competition costs. There are some wardrobe sponsors but overall the contestants and their families are eating those costs. I guess those left will be ones who really just want to compete for the sake of being a titleholder.
