Good afternoon everyone!
I hope that at least some of you got to enjoy the Miss Volunteer America preliminaries last night. Last night I couldn't figure out which other state was missing, I figured out it was Maine. As of now, the states of DE, ME, ND, and WV are not represented at this year's pageant. However, there are plenty of other lovely contestants who are doing very well. It is just so nice to have a full pageant with talent, swimsuits, and evening gowns. No onstage question with this competition, at least this year. Perhaps they are looking for a well-rounded young woman like Miss America of old and are not so focused on a random onstage question. I suspect the final 5 will have a question on Saturday night. It has not been explained yet whether or not there will be a top 15, top 10, etc.
I am not sure of the scoring other than what they announced tonight, either. I am going to assume it is 1-10 like MAO but I am not sure. So, I will probably not do a rundown of every single contestant not knowing how they judged. I will just give who I thought was best, average, and likely towards the bottom of the group. The contestants are grouped alphabetically-A, B, and C. Maybe they could have been named after the members of the Rascal Flatts LOL. But I digress. Here's a general rundown of last night:
SS
These contestants are not playing-they are fit, I did not see one bad fitness body. It just came down to presentation. My top 3 were KY, MS, and NY. KY and MS had the bombshell TN/MAO bodies and presentations. NY had a USA presentation. I am very curious to see how this panel is judging and what they are going to score. I am suspecting you will see a similar type winner the next two nights. I had LA right behind those three, followed by NH and then NE. They were all confident and had rocking bodies. There were only one or two presentations I thought were lacking, MD being one of them. She had a very strange walk and didn't seem natural at all. There were some that just didn't have enough "pop" or stand out to me. Those were MA, MT, NV, and NM. The others I would say were average.
Talent
I think fans of the MAO would have really enjoyed the talent competition last night. There were a lot of good, enjoyable talents. Nobody could complain about subpar talents. I was totally on board with TN's talent win. She was energetic, seemed to be a very talented dancer, and very entertaining. It was a routine you would want to see again. Right behind her I would have put PA and RI, both on piano. I would have OK behind those two. After them, I would have put WI and then WY. WI did a very lovely dance and she just had a special quality about her dancing-her costume was very pretty, she smiled and she sparkled. WY did an inspirational monologue and she spoke with a lot of conviction. The only talent that really stood out to me which was poor was OR. She had a background track playing a classical piano piece. Either my screen had a lag or it almost seemed like her performance was pre-recorded. Then she kept flying her hands into the air after she played a few notes. Some were weaker like OH, she was off key. SC, who I know competed in MAO, sounded okay except when she was hitting high notes.
Evening Gown
GA was the clear standout to me here. Her dress was very pretty and she had a great presentation. I would have had HI next-she was everything you expect a Miss Hawaii to be. She had a beautiful glow about her and just conveyed a sense of personal warmth. After her I had FL-she looked very pretty in a red gown, very classy. Then I had AL-her gown was very pretty and elegant, and she had a nice presentation. I would have had CA and IL behind her, and then IN. They all had nice presentations and nice gowns. Nobody was bad at all, just some do not stand out as much as others.
Some comments about the contestants:
CA-she looks like Kira Kazantsev, who I was always a fan of. She does have a cuteness about her. I am looking forward to the rest of her week.
IA-There's something about her I like.
LA-I am a HUGE fan of hers, always have been.
MI-she is one cup short of a full pot of coffee. She has a very strange energy and presentation. A bit too much.
NH-I just love her. Did she compete in MAO?
NY-very USA, I am kind of surprised she has never done USA or won Miss NY USA (though it is an extremely competitive state)
TX-she is really cute to me. If this pageant is anything like any other American pageant we will see her in the finals, anyway, so I hope we get to see more of her.
With LA and SC I know they have MAO experience and were runners-up, but how did they never win their state pageants? I just don't get it, especially with LA. She is a National Sweetheart. This is the beauty of the Volunteer system, if one system does not pan out there is always another chance for you to excel and perhaps win a national pageant.
Does anyone know if Miss SD Peyton Wilson competed in TN? The name seems familiar and they mentioned her school. Iknow it was a TN school but I am not remembering which one.
The production reminded me a lot of a TN state pageant. Allison and Jay co-hosted along with Hailey Lewis. She's a lot of fun, I always liked her. There are also princesses during evening gowns. I am not a fan of them but guess what? It keeps the Miss programs going.
I am looking forward to night 2!
