Happy Saturday!

It is not even 8 hours from the exciting finish of the first of many Miss Volunteer America Pageant. I must say that I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed the competition this week. It is nice just to have a normal pageant back like we all used to know. The competition has been great, lots of great contestants, very well-prepared. I am going to post about this separately later, but the Miss Volunteer America system is only going to grow.

Last night's competition ended on a high note with a spectacular evening gown competition. But I will run down all three.

SS
I was definitely on board with HI's win. She had a special glow to her, she radiated happiness, confidence, and she had a great presentation. She really stood out to me. The other standout was GA-she had a strong presentation, very USA like. FL was in my top group as well, when she came out I had her as a guess for the preliminary win. IL was also strong. CA had a great body but an over the top presentation complete with her almost flinging her cape or whatever you want to call those things. Had she not been so over the top I would have considered her as a contender but it just was so bizarre. She had a great body, though.

Talent
The night started out slow, although not as weak as night 2. KY did a decent aerial performance, I have seen better, but I would think it had to have scored better because so many dancers after her. None of the dancers really stood out to me in any way until we got to NH. Her performance really was beautiful. Absolutely deserving of the preliminary win. She was graceful, a good dancer, emotional, just someone you would want to watch over and over again. I feel like she told a story with her music. I had NE a few before her as a possible winner, she did a very good job on a classical piece. With a few exceptions the pianists have been strong this week. NJ sang Somebody to Love and did very well with it. She has a Broadway type voice and I think she would have hit it out of the park with a Broadway song, but she definitely did well. She has pipes. I would have had her in the top 3 along with NH and NE. NY solidified her place for me in the top 15 with a good enough performance. She sang a John Legend song, it was also emotional, she created a full persona without just singing a song. She sang at a lower range, I don't think she has a great upper range but it definitely worked for her. Some of the rest were not remarkable, but I did want to give a shoutout to two talents I really enjoyed. I love when contestants do talents which are reflective of their culture and life. MT did a poetry recitation about life on a ranch. She dressed cute in a dress and cowboy boots and was very animated and enthusiastic. I thought it was very original and helped me to understand her more. I like the show Yellowstone, partially because we rarely hear stories about the West and ranch life. It was very unique and original and I loved it. Same for NM. She did a Mexican dance with a beautiful dress. It was reflective of her culture and she absolutely brought it to life. Very well done! The only exception was MA. I hate to say this, but it did not resonate with me. She gave a monologue about why she decided to go into law enforcement. Compare it with someone like Kelley Johnson a few years ago at Miss America and it basically came across like a 1 minute or so explanation in an interview question. While I appreciated her reasons, she had no emotion whatsoever and I felt like she was just giving an answer to a question.

Evening Gown
They ended up the preliminaries with a wonderful competition. To me, SC was the clear standout. She looked beautiful in red, elegant, very red carpet. It's funny because she reminds me in looks of the Tori on Cobra Kai and she is a very pretty young woman. Both of them have those big beautiful eyes with a round face. TN was her usual strong self as well, I would have her right behind SC. OK and UT, who had done well in SS, were right behind TN for me, those were my top four. Both very good presentations, OK also had a great walk. TX also had a nice presentation, as did PA and RI. I thought WA and WI were nice as well. But not a bad one in the whole group. The only one that had a bit of difficulty with her walk was WY, sort of like in SS she doesn't quite have good posture. But I really liked her gown. It was simple yet elegant.

Now I will post my full predictions!
