Happy Saturday everyone!
I have enjoyed the Miss Oklahoma preliminaries this week. It is the first time I got the opportunity to see their full preliminaries, and they put on a first rate production. Susan Powell is a bit obnoxious, and she was making all sort of weird comments on Thursday night especially. But they do put on a good show and it is very well done. I am looking forward to tonight.
Based on preliminaries, it looks like a showdown between Bricktown and Tulsa. I get Megan Gold-she has an amazing stage presence and she really, truly stands out from the crowd. She is absolutely ready for Miss America and I could see her doing very well there. In fact, I could see even a top 5 for her. As far as Emily Faith, I will be honest-I am just not getting it. I really didn't have her anywhere near the preliminary talent winner, and I thought that several others outperformed her in gown. But the judges obviously are in love with her. Based on her onstage questioning, she used a lot of pause breakers like "uh" and "um" and she doesn't seem to be a seasoned speaker. But again, the judges do not seem to care. Through looking at some of the posts about her, she was a contestant on American Idol. It does seem like she discussed her musical aspirations in her private interview, and I am wondering if that is what the judges are responding to. Is it like Jasmine Murray or Ariana Afsar 2.0? The thing is, American Idol is nowhere near the juggernaut it was even 10 years ago. Both of them had a history in the program, however. I would say maybe if Emily stuck with it a few years and became more seasoned that she would be a strong enough winner to be Miss Oklahoma. I just really do not see it right now. I think Megan Gold is perfect for the role this year. Full disclosure: like most states, I have very little or no idea of who is competing anymore. This is just an outsider's opinion of what I have seen this week. I know nothing about who is returning this year, who did what in previous years.
I think there were some strong representatives that I expect to do well tonight, particularly Edmond and Tulsa State Fair. I also like Collinsville, thought she did well. I also liked Queen of the West all week, she reminds me like she could do well tonight if all came together for her.
I am looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out, so tune in for live commentary!
