Who won the 5.80 class? In other words, who DIDN'T get put on the trailer? What was the low ET for door car anyways? Open wheeled ET?

Hey Robbie,
Thanks for the prompt PH update results. I for one was interested about the results and I am probably only one of many who were interested in the same thing.
Were the winner and low et times posted on the official PH website?

Hey Jeff,
My plan is to let a little more rubber get laid down downtrack. My engine and transmission is in the chassis but no heads on it or anything else. I believe that I found the source of my engine hurting itself (five bent rods and 7 collapsed piston domes) and why it was not producing the horses it is capable of. If I am right, I am looking for 220+ mph. Hope the shut down area is long enough. That barb wire fence at the end won't help much. I will be back to the track soon, just not sure when.
Thanks for the question,
The Old Gray Haired Guy In The Blue Shirt

Do I read the posting correctly that the 5.80 index class allows open wheeled vehicles to complete in the 5.80 races?
I thought the 5.80 index class was for door cars only.
BTW: I have two dragsters for sale that would run this class. These run 5.30's and 5.50's but detuned would be very competitive, both BBC w/powerglides, chrome moly chassis, race ready.

First it took longer to get the boards from Race America, they had to be programed to work with our system (Portatree and not Race America timing system)Second, they were lost in transit from Cal., and finally I am having to deal with the owner of the property that I have a lease with. It's taking time, the boards are in my trailer waiting to be installed, but I have to deal with some legal problems regarding my lease. As soon as I dot all the i's and cross all of the t's and protect my investment they will be installed.

Track surface -- Alfred Whiteside, 23:04:42 04/27/13 Sat [1]

I Applaude the guys that spent their time surfacing the track. This past Saturday night was the first time I have been out there this Year. A few weeks ago I was down the road about 45 miles running, and the best 60 ft time I had In Peanuts Camaro was 1.448 and Saturday night at the Hill I had a 1.407. The track is working and I see it to only get better, better enough to maybe bring out a Red Camaro. SIDE

[> Re: where are the cars? -- Barry, 19:21:46 04/23/13 Tue [1]

My opinion is that I see next to no advertising, not a very noticeable sign on the highway, the official website is months out of date most of the time, not all racers interested in racing at The Hill are on Facebook, I know I am not, the Low ET money for open wheel racers is only if 4 or more. When are there 4 or more open wheel? I have already taken myself out of the running a couple of years ago for Low ET money, so why the 4 minimum? I think the Low ET competition might bring a few spectators. These minimums only limit the number of interested racers but also limit the number of interested spectators. I think the minumum should be two or more. Not four. Me excluded.
Several dedicated racers have spent numerous hours making improvements to the track at their expense. How about the track making some better terms to attract more racers with faster cars?
Just my opinion.

The spectators make the track money for the big pay outs. And from what I have seen they are not happy due to the low car count and the weather. Just my two cents.

IN MY OPINION, WHICH NORMALLY ISNT WORTH A BUCKET OF PISS, IS PRAIRIE HILL IS A GREAT TRACK TO GO AND PLAY. AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE, ITS A GREAT PLACE WITH GREAT PEOPLE. BUT ITS STILL AN OUTLAW TRACK. IT WILL NEVER BE THE CALIBER OF A TRACK SUCH AS CRANDALL.. IF YOU WANT THE BIG BOYS TO COME AND PLAY YOU HAVE TO PAY THE BIG MONEY AND HAVE A VERY NICE FACILITY. AND I ALSO THINK STICK CAR RACER IS RIGHT ABOU THE OPEN WHEEL. WHEN ARE THERE EVER MORE THAN TWO? AND THE NO E CARS HAVE A BIGGER PAY OUT THAN THE OPEN WHEEL CARS..JUST MY OPINION...

Hey Lucky,
Is a go cart on steroids the same thing as a stick car? Seems like my rail was described as a stick car one time by someone on this site.
My engine is still in pieces and so is my want to to work on it. Maybe they will both come together in a month or two.
You about ready to step up your steroid program with a HEMI with a motorplate for a powerglide? Simple changover for less than a new chevy motor.

Oh yeah, I remember you calling it a stick car. No problem from me. It is pretty long, alright. 285" center to center but it pretty much takes that wheelbase to handle the ponies and give enough flex to handle a few bumps in the track at 199+mph(only 178 in the 1/8). You said if your motor had a block problem you would just weld it back together. Is it an aluminum block? The KB hemi I have for sale is all aluminum, a Stage 8, .100 tall deck with 4.375 sleeves (and 8 additional finished honed sleeves), raised cam block with gear drive and a billit oil pump available. KB or AJ 6 bolt intake and a large journal 296* cam / .500 lift cam in stock, too. Stage V rockers arms in stock. You might be surprised at how little difference there is in the cost of moving up to a hemi. I have some intakes, 14-71 Littlefield Hi Helix blower, fuel system parts, etc, etc, in stock now.
BTW, I need some chrome moly tubing welding soon. Are you interested in doing these mods in my shop. If I have any chassis mods done, you are the one I want to do them.
Let me know.
Thenks,
The Old Gray Haired Guy in the Blue Shirt

Well, 13 1/2 to 1 compression is a good starting place for a naturally aspirated alcohol engine. But if you get the CR up to about 15 to 1, you will see the difference in performance. Yes, it takes better engine building skills but the improved performance is well worth it.
I texted you my contact info about the chassis mods.

I am still trying to figure why in the world I would ever think about trying to propel a racecar that is heavier than what I have now down a race track. I thought most racers were looking for a way to lighten their car, not run something heavy on purpose. Heavier is only better in tractor pulling. I don't get it. Then again, I don't have a door car. If I had a door car or maybe just wishing that I had a door car at all, I would think the same as "henry". I'll "stick" with what I have.

Hey Lucky,
I DO still have my other 2 Super Comp dragsters. Race ready but I have not advertised them because of the economy. One is race gas Dominator 468CI BBC with Dedenbear PG Trans good tires, etc and runs 5.50's and the other one is a 512 CI BBC on injected alcohol with a Geradot upright injector and scoop and runs 5.20'S. Both for sale, race ready and CASH talks. I do also have a KB 540 hemi for sale. Serious inquiries only.

SPEED COSTS! HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO?? TURNKEY RACE CARS GENERALLY SELL BETTER FOR ABOUT THE SAME MONEY AS BUILDING ONE FROM SCRATCH.. NEW CARS WILL COST MORE FOR SURE..MY CARS ARE COMPLETELY CUSTOM MADE TO ALL IHRA AND NHRA RULES.. STICK CAR RACER HAS COUPLE REAL NICE HARDTAIL DRAGSTERS..READY TO GO! FOR SOME THAT IS THE WAY TO GO.. FOR OTHERS, SOME PEOPLE LIKE HAVING BRAND NEW CARS.. ONE THING IS FOR SURE, A BRAND NEW CHASSIS WILL LAST FOR A VERY LONG TIME, WHEREAS OLDER CARS ALREADY HAVE SOME ABUSE. I HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME MOTOR AND TRANNY SETUP IN TWO DIFFERENT ALTERED CHASSIS.. ONE WAS BUILT IN 1988 AND THE OTHER WAS MY FIRST NEW CAR THAT I BUILT IN 2012. THE NEW CAR RAN 2 TENTHS FASTER!!!! OLDER CHASSIS LOOSE SOME OF THE (SPRING,) IF YA WILL..IM NOT PUTTING DOWN OLD CARS BY NO MEANS. IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT THE DRIVER WANTS AND HOW MUCH MONEY HE WANTS TO SPEND..BUT IT GOES TO SHOW WITH THE SAME MOTOR IN A NEWER CHASSIS ,, SOMETIMES IT GOES FASTER! NO MATTER WHAT , ALTEREDS AND DRAGSTERS ARE THE WAY TO GO FOR THE GUY THAT JUST WANTS TO GO AS FAST AS HE CAN ON THE SMALLEST AMOUNT OF MONEY..LIGHT WIEGHT CARS JUST GO FASTER.. ALTEREDS WIEGH VERY LITTLE, MEANING IT DONT TAKE 1000 HORSE3POWER MOTOR TO RUN LOW LOW FIVES!! ALTEREDS IN MY OPINION ARE THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK!! AND SAFER!!

Simple. Take a piece of bailing wire and work it back and forth. Soon it will break in half ! Same thing with race chassis. Bend it back and forth for a few years,, it becomes weak and starts to flex more and doesn't keep it's shape, soon it will sag if it a altered or especially a dragster. Hope this answers your question.

Never saw or heard of very many chassis that break. You said you ran 1 from 1988 till 2012 and was it broken? that was a 24 year old piece.

Track -- Ken, 19:13:31 10/28/12 Sun [2]

Prairie Hill Dragway is now closed for the season. I want to take this time to thank all of our racing family. We have seen quite a few new faces at "The Hill" and welcome you back next year. We lost one of the tracks biggest supporters and a close friend when we lost Ed Wade. There has been some talk as to whether or not we will be back next year. We will be back God willing and Honor our dear friend.
I want to think my track crew, I feel we have the best in our business. It was comforting to know that when I had my surgury I could depend on the crew and to you racers that stepped in and helped keep us up and running.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. May GOD Bless you and your family. Ken and Glenda Tucker
P.S. Thanks Kenny, Karen, Jennifer, Arron and Thomas

Sad day at "THE HILL" -- Ken, 07:34:33 09/23/12 Sun [7]

This is a very sad day for "THE HILL" family. We have lost one of our own. Ed Wade unexpectedly passed away last night while on his way to the track.
Ed was one of those true friends that come along once in a lifetime not only to myself but to my family including my Mom and Dad.
Prairie Hill Dragway would not be what is today had it not been for Ed. He came to me in 2003 and asked if I would take over the operation of the track and I agreed and since then he has been a driving force in keeping the track open. His support and his friendship will be greatly missed.
Please keep Ed's family in your prayers and ever so often look up and think Mr. Ed for all the things that he has done for us.
We love ya Ed and will miss you Dearly.
I will post more details as they become available

Coming To PHD This Weekend -- Hemiracer1 AKA Old Gray Haired Guy In The Blue Shirt, 17:27:51 09/18/12 Tue [1]

Hey Ken and Crew,
We are planning on coming to PHD this weekend. The cooler weather should be helpful on seeing some good ET's from all the racers there this coming weekend. Looking for some fast MPH's and some low ET's.
Actually, I have ran a 178+ MPH in the 1/8 in the recent past but I am looking for over 185 in the 1/8. I hope it happens this weekend. Furthermore, If all goes well, I will make another attempt at the 200+ MPH mark in the quarter mile. Now is the time to make it happen. The car is ready and so am I.
See everyone at the track this coming weekend!

Well, I thought I was coming to PHD this weekend until I cranked the engine and found it not sounding right. Pulled the plugs and found one cylinder with very low compression and a ton of blow-by. Looks like I have even more repair work to do. Argh!

Congrats to Buddy for the new Door Car Track Record. I thought when Buddy got it tuned right he would set a new record for door car. I bet there are even better ET's in the near future for him. But Ummm, Robert???!?!? Is yours about ready to make a debut pass or two? I am expecting (as many of PHD's fans are)some pretty quick ET's from you, too.
Oh yes, almost forgot. I'll put another $1,000 on top of Ken's $100 for a new track record UNDER 3.999 for open wheeled/dragster class IF that racer can run those numbers on two CONSECUTIVE weekends. The payout will be made on the second weekend. Tommy are you in on this, too?

Ok, I guess I should add that the new "Bounty", as Sick Brick described it, is for a new track record under 3.999 and is for the FIRST racer to do that. Since I don't have any major sponsors, uh hmmm, I must limit the "Bounty" to the first racer to meet the requirements. The requirements are to run the number or faster on two consecutive weekends. I have 10 green paper $100 bills cash money in hand to give to the racer who can meet the requirements.
We plan on coming back to the track very soon with our ride. The car is ready, we are ready, just waiting on cooler weather.

Room to Run the Old Stick Car Sept 1? -- Gray Haired Guy In The Blue Shirt, 18:48:10 08/22/12 Wed [1]

Hey Ken,
I would expect the track for the Sept 1 race to be full of race cars and fans. Reckon there would be enough room to squeeze in a few passes with my old chrysler style engine in a Stick Car? Oh, BTW, about setting another new track record, does the extra $100 apply to me too? I sure could use some extra sponsorship money. Uh, hmm.

Barry, I'll add another $100 to Ken's $100 extra for the first person to break a standing record at the hill for this year (2012). Sort of a "bounty" on a new record, if you will. Of course, it's up to Ken to decide who gets what. To me, that includes rail, door car, and motorcycle. In usual prairie hill fashion, come and run whatcha brung and git it done!

racing at the hill -- David Allen, 09:32:55 08/08/12 Wed [1]

Well folks, I know a lot more ways to loose a race than win. I can even invent ways to loose. I raised my Family at race tracks across Texas for years. I knew where my kids were, they were with me. No troubled kids. Motorplex was our second home. They were our family, only they now race several times a year.We have taken the Hill as our new second home. Now grand kids are coming up. I hope the fellowship we have will transfer to them. It is our job to police our track. I personally have several race cars but will not expose myself or spectators to unsafe racecars. I welcome tech check on cars, but all our cars are built to pass IHRA, NHRA or any track .I do not think any racer at the hill would be illegal with their cars, some of us know when the brake is or is not used. I can not think of a better place to be or race than The Hill. We all Need to use common sense, trust each other, and be a friend to all.

Need to work together -- Brandon Allen, 17:29:05 08/07/12 Tue [1]

Think it is funny that a spectator or an anonymous name is making all the aligations. If you have a concern or know something that would benefit the track, please put your name on your post. Also for time to time we rent the track where I do nothing but make 20 foot launches working on my lights. We also have a full size port-a-tree sitting in the livingroom. Having said all that my 8 year old has beat me ever time I run him. It's just racing. I do think the person that is concerned with people cheating needs to be the tech person.

Now I would like for md to explain how sand bagging is cheating or light tripping? I just didn't understand his point of view on that. We are bracket racing not running pinks all out.

Seriously? -- Racers wife. (Annoyed), 10:47:12 08/07/12 Tue [4]

Ok, the situation of cheating was confronted by track officials. If you would sit back and watch how this "Cheater" prepares for EVERY race you would know that he just knows his car and what he is doing. How many years has he raced opposed to you? I'm guessing he out weighs your experience by about 15+ years. But, go ahead keep whining and accusing cause all y'all are doing wasting your own breath and getting on everyone's nerves. I feel bad for Ken and all the officials who have to listen to it. And I apologize to them on behalf of everyone who is tired of all this whining. Kinda make me laugh because what it sounds like is when I was younger if someone won, they must be cheating! Well turns out that some people just know how to play the game. Now pick your pride up, and lose with dignity and stop being childish.

All the pointing fingers and saying there is cheating going on is getting on my nerves. I hate seeing good people thrown into something so childish because they are good at what they do. And no, I have never said anything to Ken or anyone. I sit back and watch everyone until I get overly annoyed with everyone. And that's when I open my mouth and voice my opinion.
My guess is that if it was anyone's friend being accused of cheating wouldn't it the least bit annoy you? Especially when you know it's not going on.

I agree with everything Chris said. Prairie Hill Dragway is a safer place to race today than it's ever been. If a person doesn't feel safe at the track, I think they should simply go to another track that gives them the safe feeling they are looking for. If bracket racers and index racers want a tech inspection, then I believe each group should appoint a "tech inspector" out of thier field to conduct what ever type of inspection each group agrees upon. If there is some sort of controversy or arbitration about an inspection, a majority vote of racers entered in the race rules. How hard would that be?

The Tuckers are offering a service to us at the Hill. When I come out to the Hill, I know what I'm paying for, and don't expect, or demand anything else.

The Hill is what it is. Some love it, some don't. However you want to look at it, it is still a great place for everyone to meet and have fun. I think we're all lucky to have a track like Prairie Hill. It's a lot more trouble, money, and time to race ANYWHERE else.

I agree with having a racer inspect the cars by bein voted in that's an awsome idea it keeps the field happy so everyone knows for a fact that everyone is honest and lightens up the load on Ken an the officials and there won't be any of this whining or anything

I don't race brackets yet but will real soon but that has my vote I'm sure the rest of the racers would agree unless they have something to hide I don't think anyone has anything to hide at the HILL

racing -- mike, 16:53:36 08/06/12 Mon [1]

How would you like to get a .007 light & still lose, ask Branden because that happened last week. As to Delay boxes, if in use, they are not helping. Our current point leader has been racing for more years than most of us have been alive so is good at the tree. Most of the cars that race have delay boxes because they race elswhere or did at one point. Are they being used, I don't think so & I pretty much watch every race. If you think they are, watch the tree. Just my thoughts. Oh, in case you think I'm new at this & can't tell, I raced at Green Valley & Kennydale starting in 1969.

cheating -- James Shambln, 08:33:14 08/06/12 Mon [1]

This isn't the Motorplex in Ennis. They can afford to hire as many people that they need. Some may not realize it, Ken does not get all the money that comes thru the gate. He has a landowner to pay. So as for as the cheating, I think most if not all the footbrake racers are concerned about is a delaybox and transbrake being used against them. I think the person caring for the water box could check the cars before entering the waterbox. If the delaybox is set to be used disqualify that car are cars for that round. The person running the tree can easily, if paying attention can catch someone using the transbrake. Two people doing there best in these two areas would fix the cheatin, if it is happenning. I have a footbrake car and I enter electriconics also, cause I like to race. This is just a thought that might help. I enjoy racing at the hill and I'm going to keep racing at the hill.

So called cheater -- Spectator, 20:42:12 08/05/12 Sun [2]

I think it's kind of funny how even after having people walk up and look inside of these so called cheaters cars and watching when they launch to see if they are on the button or not ( they weren't ) and I actually think I've seen a track official look inside of cars in the pits and found nothing but since some people don't think that's good enough they still say they are cheaters if you look back at anyone's racing history they have a good run of hitting the lights and then back to regular lights plus I'm sure experience has alot to do with hitting consistanly good lights just my opinion

On Time????? -- MD, 18:56:47 08/05/12 Sun [1]

Dont wait on racers. If you open at 6 time trails at 7. 1st round should be no later than 8 whether everybody there or not. If they want to race they need to be there on TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amen again. That has been a problem with the time element. If you know your going to race then you should be there when the show starts. I think if time trials start at 7 then you should be there.or at least before eliminations are schedule to begin, If eliminations are to begin at 9 that is when they should start regardless who is there. This should be for brackets and heads up classes.

I used the term "Outlaw" for ths board Not the track -- Robbie Horn, 17:51:57 08/05/12 Sun [5]

First off I do not consider Prairie Hill a outlaw track. Even thought it's not a sactioned track, there are RULES OF THE TRACK. Outlaw tracks have no rules or regulations.Street racing is Outlaw racing and it still goes on big time. They are the real outlaws, no track, illegal racing that is badass Go to Oklahoma if you don't believe me. Ken depends on and trust the racers to use their best judgement since this is a very dangerous sport. Just why don't everybody load up and go to the motorplex and see what it's like to not be able to run because of your seatbelts out of date, no neutral switch, battery not secured properly, lack of proper driver safety gear,, no chassis certification, no competition license.Just because these things are recommended and are not strictly enforced at the hill everyone has taken advantage of the fact. I should change the name of this site to Prairie Hill Drag Racing Dummies. From the safety equipment not being worn and some of the unsafe engineering on some of these cars It might become more popular. I suggest that all drivers & car owners should think about the SFI safety requirements and I am not saying to go out and buy a bunch of safety equipment, but if you have it wear it like it is supposed to worn. If you know there is something unsafe on your car and you just have to race it, go find a demolation derby and enter it. As hard as Ken and his staff and family has worked to give us a good safe family oriented place to dragrace, I am asking everybody to pitch in and stop all this nonsense

I second that "Amen". Having the proper safety gear and wearing it properly is why I am alive today. The SFI certs of my gear were out of date and I would not have been allowed to run at Ennis or other sanctioned tracks but I do have it and I do wear it properly. I do not and will not spend the bucks to have all the certs made current just so I can run sanctioned tracks and that is 1 reason I run at PHD. I agree that all racers should find a way to either have the safety gear or not race their car. Any Amens to that?

having been on my head, in dozens of wrecks, & been on fire, you never know when something can go wrong & you are ignorant to not use safety equipment, especially fire suits & shoes! 3 gals of gas or an engine/oil explosion can make one hell of a fire! a helmet not buckled is absoloutly useless! loose seatbelts are useless! and it floors me every nite i am there to see all these things going on.i know i am new out there, but i have 20 years racing experience. i really dont want to see anyone get hurt out there, so think smart guys & gals!

Jeff, the reunion race is "usually" the weekend before Labor day weekend. That would put it on Aug. 25, if they stick to their usual schedule, but Ken would probably know for sure about this year.

COME ON NOW .....PULL YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES FOR A MINUTE AND GO CHECK SOME OF THESE CARS. SAME PERSON WINNING MOST OF THE TIME??? PRAIRIE HILL NEEDS A QUALIFIED TECH MAN. DOES THE TRACK PERSONNEL NEED TRAINING ON WHAT TO LOOK FOR. TELL YOU WHAT WHEN YOU LOOSE ALL YOUR BRACKET RACERS THEN SOMETHING MIGHT BE DONE. HERE IS YOU SOMETHING TO LOOK AT.THE ONLY WAY TO STOP PEOPLE FROM USING ELECTRONICS IS HAVE THEM REMOVED FROM THE CARS AND WHEN YOU WIN BE CALL STRAIGHT TO TECH TO GET YOUR CAR CHECKED OUT BY THE TECH MAN TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE LEGAL. THIS IS THE ONLY FAIR WAY FOR THE OTHER DRIVERS AND CAR OWNERS THAT ARE HONEST CLEAN PEOPLE THAT DON'T CHEAT.
Footbrake Only Class- NON ELECTRONICS

DELAY BOX MUST BE OUT OF THE CAR
This is a foot brake only class. Launch is to be controlled by the driver
using the foot brake. Line locks allowed for burnout only. Car can only
have one line lock installed. No trans brake allowed on car PERIOD unhooked or not,NO delay box,TIMERS,RPM ACTIVATED SHIFTERS of any kind,NO 2-step,
throttle stops, or any electronic or automatic launch control ALLOWED IN THE CAR AT ANY TIME DURING THE EVENT.
ANY DRIVER CAUGHT CHEATING WILL FORFEIT ALL POINTS FOR SEASON.

Have done this, ask Ken he is aware of this but has neglected to appointment/hire a DRAG RACE KNOWLEDGEABLE tech PERSON. There are plenty qualified people in his area that would make good/fair tech man/or woman.IT IS NO SECRET THAT this has been brought up in the past SEVERAL TIMES. PRAIRIE HILL NEEDS A TECH PERSON FOR THE DRIVERS AND FANS AND EVERYONE ELSES SAFETY. SO GO GET YOU SOME WINE AND CHEESE, DRINK AND EAT IT AND LET THIS SCREWED UP MESS CONTINUE UNTIL GETS SOMEONE HURT OR KILLED. ANYBODY REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED AT HALLSVILLE??

I ran electronics bracket last night and was surprised to find that many of the other racers in that class were not using their electronics at all. They were foot braking just like it was a no-e bracket. Not sure why they even call it an electronics bracket. Maybe we should run a "run what you brung" bracket so there is no controversy with the box/no box issue. And, I agree with some of the tech comments. We need some sort of tech for safety reasons.

BUT I AGREE THE NEED SOME TECHS TOO.

I hate that it has come to this. I don't deny I think there's been some cheating, but like it is said, it's an 'outlaw' track, so it is what it is. Without tech, this can happen One's purpose of racing, is for the fun of it, for the adrenolin rush and for competition. If I weren't competitive , I wouldn't have signed up for points racing. it's only fair, if you race fair.
I feel I have had a pretty good relationship with most everyone racing, even my competitors. Not everyone can be a friend though. The great thing about Prairie Hill racing, is that many friendships have formed and no one minds helping out the other guy, even it being your competitor. Everyone wants to win, but in the end, it's a fun time and if you come up short, gotta try to do better next time. Everyone knows my struggle this year has been to go green. I finally found it, then Damn that red light!!!
