Simple. Take a piece of bailing wire and work it back and forth. Soon it will break in half ! Same thing with race chassis. Bend it back and forth for a few years,, it becomes weak and starts to flex more and doesn't keep it's shape, soon it will sag if it a altered or especially a dragster. Hope this answers your question.

Never saw or heard of very many chassis that break. You said you ran 1 from 1988 till 2012 and was it broken? that was a 24 year old piece.
